As far as we can figure out, Wulabo is Urabo. In AD 648, the Tang government set up the town of Luntai in the ancient town seat of Urabo, 10 kilometers from the southern suburb of present-day Ürümqi. This is a great place to visit. Turpan's Jiaohe and Gaochang ruins are certainly bigger and better, but if you are in Urumqi you can't do better than coming here for a morning or afternoon adventure. Best to cycle out here through the villages. You can imagine what life must have been like here all those years ago where there used to be a massive market here every week. It's unusual to still have archaeological sites so near Urumqi so visit soon while it is still here
