It's a small fortification (size of a car park driveway for 3-4 cars) containing several cast-iron canons and a sign explaining the history, so those looking to walk up the hill may be disappointed by what's at the end - but the height gives great...More

My wife and I hired a taxi to take us around the island. One of the stops was the Hamilton Fort. There really isn't much ;eft at all. The primary attraction appears to be the commanding view of the harbour area that it provides.

Pros: Spectacular views over Port Elizabeth and surrounding environs, uncommercialized, and historic. Cons: Infrastructure i.e. Roads need improvement, Signage to local attractions need improvement.

This is a very small fort to the north of Port Elizabeth but it is not a long walk and is worth the stroll for the commanding view of the bay and the history board on the site.

The location of Battery Hill as the locals still call it is spectacular, allowing sweeping views over Admiralty Bay and Bequia Harbour. However, it never was fortified but had and has a few cannons - hence the original name 'Battery' - to protect the entrance...More

It's a bit of a trek, and a lovely view over the other side of the harbour, a few hawkers selling t-shirts and that's it.

While there may have been a fort at the site of Fort Hamilton in the distant past, there is no fort or ANY ruins of a fort there now. There are a few old cannon which have been mounted onto a recently constructed stone wall...More

You can walk or as many do, get a taxi to the top of the hill and Hamilton Fort. You get a great view and there are a few canons there, as per the pictures, but that is it.

Maybe it's my previous experiences with other forts, but I wasn't too impressed with this. It's basically a small circle with a few cannons and a Hut. That being said, the view from the fort is spectacular and so is the breeze. It's a nice...More

Very small fort, it's really a turret with 2 English and three French cannons. Very limited info and drive up needs an expert to navigate road which is two strips of poorly maintained concrete. We called here as part of an organised tour, spent max...More
