Interesting despite not being able to go down the shaft
Jul. 2021
There is good sized car park and it is quite a large site. Due to the pandemic it was not possible to go down the mine but there was an ex-miner that gave an interesting talk by the lift.

You can make your own way round the site following the one way system.

Lovely day out with fantastic guides
Jun. 2021 • Family
Wonderful free day out, wasn’t expecting much as we knew the underground tour wouldn’t be available and I think that’s generally accepted to be the main event, however there was plenty to see and very enthusiastic tour guides made the few hours we were there very enjoyable.

An Impressive and Informative Reminder of the Welsh Coal Mining Industry
Jul. 2021
My husband and I, along with my parents, visited the Big Pit National Coal Mining Museum on the 2nd of July, and we were not disappointed. Situated in the picturesque Brecon hills, this museum provides a fine reminder of a sadly departed industry which provided the heart of many a Welsh community. Although the current COVID-19 restrictions deprived us of the opportunity to descend into the pit workings, the enthusiasm and passion of the staff, who were former miners from the Welsh coalfields, more than compensated, especially when they were explaining about the mining structures or equipment, or providing personal recollections and anecdotes about their time as miners. My husband and I look forward to returning here when the opportunity permits.

Brilliant venue, helpful staff and a great experience

Our son had looked forward to going to Big Pit for ages and was not dissapointed at all with any of the parts of the tour. Staff were very 'autism friendly' and made our visit a pleasure to enjoy, they are a credit to the museum. Despite tours down the pit being postponed due to covid still, the rest of the experience gave us an amazing insight to life at the coillery and as a miner. Well done Big Pit!

Good but will be better when fully open
May 2021 • Couples
Pre booked as necessary. Although free its £5 parking. Well marked but first part felt strange to follow as unsure what we were seeing. Clearer once we got to the showers and lockers which gave coal miner stories. Basic canteen part way round for drinks and snacks. Coal mine experience near end was interesting. Will need to go back for full experience.

Fabulous and Informative

We had a lovely day at the Big Pit, you explore all the workshops and have access to the entire area including bath houses. You will meet a fabulous array of characters on route that all make your visit an experience to remember. It was a real treat to spend time with Andrew our bath house guide, he was funny & very knowledgeable relaying stories of his time down the pit. Everyone we met really made us all feel so welcome. Currently the underground tour is closed due to Covid restrictions but that just gives us another excuse to return. Thanks to everyone at the Big Pit for a great visit.
