Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took a day-long boat tour with Shalton (who is AWESOME! You can reach him at 242-441-5379 or 242-441-6704 for his Heaven & Earth Tour) to Peterson Cay. He speared fish while we were snorkeling then took us to Peterson Cay. We snorkeled and wandered around the small island while he prepped the freshly caught fish and cooked it for us on the concrete grill located on the beach. He fed the fish remains to the small sharks that came up in the clear water. They apparently know his boat...SO COOL! There was a kayak tour group there that was just leaving when we showed up so that's another way to get to the island.
There are hermit crabs but nothing to be afraid of.

I went to Peterson Cay on my birthday during a four day trip to the Bahamas. It was a picture perfect, white sand/blue water scene. It's a 30 minute boat/kayak ride to get there, but it's very secluded and you're not likely to run into too many other people, other than small tours. Great to snorkel around! I highly recommend this small piece of paradise.

Ask anyone for Shalton Barr. Everyone knows him. He will take you to the most marvelous spots on the island. He's a treasure.

We were in the Bahamas the last week of March 2006 and snorkelled at both Peterson Cay and Paradise Cove. We saw very few fish at Peterson Cay, although there is a beautiful coral garden on the northeast side of the cay. It is a beautiful little island with a small beach. We arrived about 11:00 a.m. on a Sunday, and there were about 20 kayakers snorkeling in the area and occupying the beach. By the time they had left around noon, the larger motor craft started arriving and the little cove was quite crowded the rest of the afternoon - hopefully it is more peaceful on a weekday, as the occupants of the one of the boats went ashore but left their music blaring for them to enjoy from a distance. This is a nice accompaniment to Paradise Cove, but if you have only one place to snorkel, I'd recommend the latter (but take your bug spray for occasionally present and very vicious no-see-ums).

I can't emphasize how satisified I was with Shami and his team.

They greated us promptly when we got off the cruise ship - all 15 of us (4 couples, 7 children - ages 12 through18).

They got us underway to our destination - even allowing us a quick stop to pick up "refreshments" at a local store. We got there, got geared up and took kayaks out to our private island. After sunning/snorkeling for a while, we got back in the kayaks and headed back.

We drove to Banana Bay for lunch. Great food - AWESOME location. We didn't want to leave. The tropical drinks, the sun. When I had set up the trip - I had mentioned it was a combination Spring Break and my daughter's 18th Birthday. Never thought any more of it. Until right before we were leaving the restaurant. Shami (who wasn't even our guide that day) showed up with Birthday Cake from a local bakery.

Above and beyond customer satisfaction in my book. I won't hesitate to refer others to Shami and his crew.

I also won't hesitate to book another Eco Adventure with them the next time we are in Freeport. Drop him an email - you won't be sorry!

Calabash Eco Aventures is AWESOME!

Snorkeling here was incredible! The colors were so vivid and we saw so much! Beyond the many different fish we saw a turtle, octopus, lobster, urchins, star fish, crabs, and more! Away from all the tourist craziness, so peaceful and hidden.

We don't choose to be one of 20 sheep on pre-arranged tours, so we rented a car and drove to Barbary Beach. Yes if it looks abandoned you're in the right place. We had to off road a little in the VW rented car, but it's just sand!!! The Cay is about 1.5 kms out from the sand line. Go when the waters quiet, or else you'll have a fun swim. There a reef and rays right off the beach line! You can go with the nature tour operator too. But we had the whole beach to ourselves, didn't see anyone else at 3pm and it was very magical. There's loads of dead washed up coral you may want as a souvenir.

Took taxi from Cruise port; Is about 20 minutes and $8 per person each way;
We started from the Wyndham hotel and it was a 20 min boat ride

Equipment quality was good;
They took us to the island which is about 100 yards by 100 yards;
Then had about 2 hours to snorkel and explore around the island;

Good number of fish and coral; Not the most colorful coral I have ever seen but still pretty good;

Our group of 8 felt this was well worth the price; We booked through Viator.com and it was well worth the price;

Great little island for seeing hermit crabs and snorkelling with the fishes. The Jetski part was fun (half hour out, half hour back), the snorkelling a little short on time. On the return you take a lovely trip thru lucayan harbor and pass the homes of the rich and famous .

Went there as part of an excursion.
Island is spectacular full of diverse fishes, corals, we even got to see a nurse shark.
We also took another snorkeling tour the day before and the island was dirty which made me upset. Thats why im giving Peterson Cay and all the ppl who keep it clean 5 stars ;)
