Loved how modern works are juxtaposed next to historic postcards of the same venues. Very cool way to present history and art at the same time! Especially enjoyed the complimentary art park atop the hill with views of the harbor & free WiFi. Such a quiet & beautiful setting.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 April 2024

If you love art and want to dive into the Bahamian culture, make this one of your stops. Lots to see, learn and even take home with you. Conveniently placed on top of the hill close to the downtown area. They also put on fun events and the space can be rented. I've also worked along with them for the Safety Stamp campaign and to shoot a video of a good friend of mine who is a poet, They support the arts and they support Bahamian.

I strongly encourage folks to take the time to visit this well curated space! We went during the Antonius Roberts exhibition, and seeing this incredible multi-media art from paintings, to sculpture to interactive art installations was an absolute treasured experience of my visit to Nassau. The person working at the museum was informative, friendly and welcoming. The grounds are beautiful and taking a walk through the arts garden, was such a delight - with art pieces integrated into a beautiful outdoor walking and sitting space. The small, but well curated, gift shop is a lovely place to browse for unique, local finds. I would definitely return for future exhibits, should I be in Nassau!

I visited the Art Gallery when it first opened back in 2003 I believe. The architect is a friend of mine and I had a personal tour. Visited again in April 2022 again with my architect friend. I was rather disappointed to see that the gallery was allowed to run down a bit without any significant maintenance. That’s my only criticism, however. The exhibition was excellent and well presented and I highly recommend it to all visitors to this beautiful island.

Visited this art museum as part of the Pedicab tour. LOVED the museum. Beautifully curated exhibit in an old restored mansion. Well worth the visit. I highly recommended it.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this! Loved the Antonius Robertson collection a lot. The only disappointment was we wanted to buy a postcard or momento of his work from the shop and there was nothing there. A shame to not be allowed to take pictures as would loved to have showed people the amazing things we saw.

I go to the Nassau every year and one place we visit every time we are there is the NAGB. It's a wonderful little museum that is very close to downtown Nassau, a couple of blocks up from Bay Street.
They have a growing and changing permanent collection as well as 2 or 3 temporary exhibits that are always interesting and beautiful. Last year, we also met a very friendly woman who worked in the gift shop - she made our trip even more enjoyable! The museum is housed in a beautiful old home (I can't remember its significance but I'm sure someone there can tell you) and you have some nice views of the surrounding area from the upstairs balcony.
I highly suggest visiting this museusm and supporting it; whenever we visit, we are practically alone in the musuem and I'd love to see more tourists there. Right on the same street as the NAGB is St. Francis Catholic Church (also beautiful to visit) and the Graycliff Hotel and Restaurant, which is old pirates' digs. It's a nice place to walk around, watch cigars being made and (if it's in your budget!) enjoy a swanky 5-star lunch. These 3 spots make a nice Nassau Afternoon.

I had been to Nassau before as a cruise port stop. The downtown area is pretty much the same strip of jewelry and mall stores promoted on board in every Caribbean port. Trip Advisor helped me find the National Art Gallery as an alternative I might enjoy. It is a delightful gem of a museum well balanced between whimsical, beautiful, and biting statements about Bahamian nature, culture, and people. True artists help us see the world around us in different ways. This museum has excelled at finding those who can do so. Also, there is a changing section devoted to art work by high school students. I especially liked the tree frog mosaic, the grey tone painting of two young boys, and the purse made of seed pods. The museum also features Duke Wells' initial portraits for a collection documenting local residents. From the young man who sells phone cards on a street corner to government officials, the portraits were stunning--successful at capturing personality and individuality--and beautiful on a stand alone basis. I felt like I wanted to meet each person. The museum is located on a hill surrounded by an older section of the town. We took a taxi to the museum since it was a very hot day. It was not as far as we expected from the cruise port. It was an easy downhill walk a couple of blocks back to the dock if you are able bodied and won't be affected by passing traffic fumes. You can purchase water at the museum and enjoy the upstairs porches for a restful break. There is a small gift shop with some unique items and note cards of several artists' works as well as books and videos. The museum is featured, I found out from the attendant, on a walking tour which rated as #4 on Trip Advisor.

What is the best way to get here from the Cruise port? Can you walk?
Are there any other recommended attractions nearby?

I've walked there each time I've been at port. It is uphill so it's a little strenuous but walking up the street is an adventure in itself. It is also within walking distance of Graycliff Chocolate Factory and Watling's Rum Distillery. Both fun attractions that you can visit without reservations or pre-planned tours.
