- Helen M9 contributionsA wonderful tour, packed with historyTook the Clifton Heritage Tour, including a village where enslaved Bahamians lived. Bernita, our guide, was a lovely, fascinating woman - incredibly knowledgeable and encouraging of questions. She made me and my family feel very welcome and curious to know more about our history. I was left feeling uplifted to know my ancestors' story is being so ably told.Hello Hellen M, The team here at Clifton Heritage National Park is thrilled to receive such an awesome rating, thank you! - sbaynig2018Victoria, Texas10 contributionsPrivate beachFound Clifton National Park last minute on here for a cruise port. Was picked up by Joseph on time and he drove us into the park and gave us history of New Providence/Nassau. We chose to do the beach day tour. It was my family of 2 and a mother and daughter along. We literally had the whole beach to ourselves and it was absolutely beautiful. Good snorkeling, beautiful beach, and fun to explore the tide pools. They bring you some yummy Bahamian food with bottled water for lunch. The tour was 10-2 and we weren’t ready to leave. Lots of shade also if have had too much sun and games to play also. Loved it. Would definitely do this again if in the area!Hello sbaynig2018, Thanks so much for giving us your take on how we are doing- we truly appreciate it. - Brittany S4 contributionsGreat experience. Price a little high. Our tour guide Octavia was very fun and interactive as well as knowledgeable. She made the tour very fun for us and answered all of our off the wall questions (even suggested excellent places to eat aside from the fish fry. The plantation bar and grill for the conch fritters and tasteys Caribbean delite). As a word of warning. The entrance fee is $16 usd per person and the tour is $22. But is overall a great place to learn about the early years of the Bahamas.Hello brittanysK997GX, Thank you for taking the time to leave us this awesome review, your opinion is valued greatly and it helps us maintain an excellent standard of service to our customers. - Daydream31039952415Georgetown, Kentucky19 contributionsWorth the drive away from the tourist areasIf you want peace and solitude, this is the place to go. We visited two days in a row. The first day we wandered the property learning about the history and touring the ruins. The second day, we went for a guided snorkel tour and spent some time soaking up the sun and sea breeze on the beach which we had all to ourselves save a couple that was probably a hundred yards away. The snorkeling was beautiful and we were blessed to see a pair of eagle rays. All the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We also got to see some local wildlife including a few hermit crabs, some giant caterpillars, terns, and little ghost crabs.Hello Daydream31039952415 Seeing that you had a 5-Star experience is the best thing we could hope for! - Denise H2 contributionsBeautiful beaches and snorkeling!A beautiful, secluded beach day, snorkeling, and amazing people. My family of four did the snorkeling deluxe tour while stopped in Nassau on a cruise. Joseph picked us up right outside of the cruise port and gave us historical facts and sites as we drove to the national park. Snorkeling was beautiful, there were several colorful fish, coral reefs, and the sunken statures were breath taking. After snorkeling, we were taken to one of the beaches at the park for a beach day. The beach was like a postcard and we had it all to ourselves! Joseph delivered lunch around noon and then came back at 2 to take us back to the cruise port. I would recommend this tour to anyone coming to New Providence Island."The beach was like a postcard. " denisehE5387UJ, thank you for visiting with us and for your kind words- we truly appreciate it. I had researched prices before going and was under the impression there was an entry fee of $10 per person (no issue there) and free if you have your own snorkeling equipment but over $20 per person to rent it. Turns out the entry fee was $11.60 for non-residents and an extra $22 per person to snorkel with your own equipment. We arrived by rented car 90 minutes before closing and the only tour option of the slave trade was a self-guided one at that hour. We chose not to stay, knowing that we would have other snorkeling opportunities while in the Bahamas. Best to arrive much earlier in the day to take advantage of a guided tour.

Hello MammaBear60 ...Thank you for this review!
We are so bummed that you couldn't enjoy snorkeling with us. The park's entrance fee is $10.00 ( $11.20 w/ tax) and an unguided snorkel tour is $20.00 ($22.40 w/tax) which includes the park entrance. The sculpture garden actually hosts the world's largest underwater sculpture so we promise the experience would have been an epic one. Thank you once again and we hope you had a safe return home.

The place is large, however, there is only a couple shady trails to walk and hear the history of the first people who lived in the Island. The cave and its history were interesting. The garden is not that interesting and looks unkept. The overhaul history of the Island is interesting and ‘Jass’ was super nice and kept my children interested throughout. She was truly a wonderful guide. The gift shop could have been better and offer more choices, including truly handmade/ local gifts. The beach was too rough for anyone to enjoy. They have a nice bar at the beach, and it did not have service (closed). The beach area did not have any food or drinks, therefore it is hard to stay for any longer period. You can do the guided tour and visit the entire place under 1 and half hours. We paid $58 for four including the guided tour (definitively worth it). This is the type of touristic attraction that everyone should do to support the ‘real heritage’ of this Island. I hope they invest a little more in food, drinks and cultural/local gifts to improve this attraction.

We cruised to this destination and instead of buying an excursion, we decided to rent a car and drive around the island. We were told that this park was a must see and it absolutely was. The drive from the port to the park was beautiful. Once we arrived at the park, we were greeted by the staff who were very friendly. We rented our snorkel gear and life vests ($48/person). There’s about a quarter mile walk to the place where you begin your dive to see the sculptures. The swim to the a sculptures is a decent way, so be prepared to burn some calories. You’ll have plenty of time and there are also two helpful guides who will offer assistance if you get tired. If you can’t swim, I wouldn’t recommend this event. Both of the sculptures are amazing. We also saw a lot of sea life. We got to the park close to closing, so we didn’t take the tour of the grounds but it seemed like it would be a neat thing to do. We would 100% recommend this again. Side note: If you’re from the states and rent a car, please be aware that you’ll have to drive on the wrong side of the road. It can be a little confusing at first. Also make sure that you grab a paper map because there’s not much cell service there to use Google maps.

We were intrigued by the option of getting some heritage information as well as snorkeling at the same time and hence drove from paradise island to over here. Its a 45-60 mins drive. The park has ample parking space AND a very clean, maintained restroom...being around beaches with no facilities makes u appreciate restrooms even more so.
Miguel at the gift store was very helpful with all ticketing info. He was skillfully handling the groups of people coming through at the same time.
Unfortunately snorkeling was canceled for the day because of rough waves. We took the heritage tour option. While waiting for the tour, we walked to the tiki bar that also has a small play area for kids. Kids had fun in that play area while we ordered drinks. Bartender was cool enough to ask your interests and make a drink based on what you like! He made a perfect drink for me.
Our heritage tour was led by Vernita and she was the best - explained everything and encouraged all questions. She went step by step in the tour through the passage of time with lucayans, loyalists and slaves. It was good to learn so much from her!
It took us almost 90 mins to go through with everything but we enjoyed every bit.
We had noticed lunch being cooked by the tiki bar and went over after the tour to get some food but they were out of the chicken we had been eyeing, so I guess if you want lunch options better to order sooner.
Wish we could have completed the experience with the snorkeling trip but nonetheless it was worth it to us.

This was, hands down, the highlight of our 9 day vacation in Nassau/Atlantis. We typically don't venture too far from Paradise Island, but we decided to make snorkeling a highlight of our trip. Sadly, the day we visited, the current was too strong for snorkeling to the statues. If this is important to you, plan your visit in the middle of your vacation and call in the morning to check snorkeling conditions. If it's closed, you still have time to go back later in your trip. We will definitely have to come back on another trip. Staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. The BBQ Chicken lunch we ordered was seriously one of the best meals we had. The rice and peas were so flavorful and had the perfect texture and seasoning. We spent most of our time snorkeling by Johnston beach, collecting sand dollars, sea urchins and conch shells. The reef was right off the beach in crystal clear water and full of fish. Go slow and you'll spot so many different species. FYI there are a lot of live sea urchins so careful where you step - but generally, you should avoid stepping on the reef anyways :) Other visitors that day told us they saw a pair of dolphins swim by, which is rare - amazing. I wish I remembered the names of everyone we encountered - but Ms. Robinson was so helpful and informative, the driver of the van was a wealth of information about the sites and the security by the beach was incredibly friendly. You can tell that they enjoy what they do and really want to educate and help you during your visit. We will see you again on our next visit!

Highly recommend visiting the national park and doing the guided snorkeling tour. My husband and I recently visited for our honeymoon and came across the national park online after another one of our excursions was canceled. The experience ended up being one of our favorite activities while in the Bahamas. Not only were the fish and underwater sculptures beautiful, but the staff is extremely engaging and friendly. The price is also significantly more reasonable than other snorkeling excursions we found online. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area!!

This was a trip highlight. We did the heritage tour, which was $120 or so per person. Edward picked us up at Atlantis at 9:30, on time. He gave us a tour, highlighting key sights, and we picked up another couple closer to the airport. At the park, edward turned us over to Jason, who was our snorkel guide. The water wasn’t too cold, and they provide masks, snorkels and flippers. There are four sights, including that really beautiful girl submerged in the water. Lots of fish! The reef is pretty brown but plenty of colors in the fish to see.
After snorkeling, Edward took us to a beach to dry off. We explored the rocks and water pools. One of the best beaches on the island with hardly anyone else there. Crystal blue water. Rustic facilities.
Then Edward brought us lunch, along with the other couple, and we ate fried fish and pasta, bottled water, at a picnic table on the beach. Food was nothing special but hit the spot, and the view was the best on the island!
Then Edward turned us over to vernita, our guide for the heritage part of the tour. She was great! We saw a few space quarters and got a lot of history. Then we saw Antonius Roberts sacred spaces art, these haunting women made of tree trunks. Absolutely stunning.
We were back to Atlantis about 3.
I highly recommend for anyone who wants to see some pristine beaches, art, and a touch of history!

This is a really cool spot where there is a lot to see and do! We went for the snorkeling but we also walked the trails to see the history of the area and also saw a lot of wildlife. Everyone that worked there was really helpful in pointed out what we should see such as the stone stairs and jaws beach which are a bit further out from the main area. The statue in the water is huge and there is also a smaller statue and a plane plus, the reef itself! An extra added benefit, it’s on the opposite side of the island from Atlantis and the cruise port so it was not very crowded!

We booked this as a tour of the historic site with the snorkeling through our hotel. We arrived and did the snorkeling first because the water was conducive. My BF is not a strong swimmer in open ocean and our snorkel guides really stepped up and helped him with the right gear and guidance. Then we moved onto lunch which was chicken/rice/veggies on the beach. We finished the day with a lovely historical tour from Vernita. There’s not a lot left to see, but Vernita knows her history and told us great stories of how people lives on the plantations.

This place was wonderful and highly recommend a visit. If you enjoy exploring on your own and don’t mind a little walking (easy terrain) go!
There is parking at the main entrance and transportation to all of the beaches/sites if needed.
We chose to walk and enjoy—- not a single person on the beach or visiting when we went on a Tuesday around lunch
Snorkeling was closed due to high winds/surf, but we still enjoyed walking to the areas and Flipper
We paid park entry fee (at the gift shop near the entrance/parking lot when you arrive)
The entry fee covered entrance to all the beaches (including the “private” ones)
Chairs were available to use at the beaches, tests rooms and rinse off showers too, but no “at the beach” food/drinks (only available at the gift shop/main entrance)

Hello, wondering how we can get to the park on our own? If we want to snorkel on our own, (we have own gears) do we still have to pay somewhere? Is the ocean atlas easy to find on our own, or do we have to book the tour?

Hello sugar_mommy2019...thank you for your inquiry!
What kind of lodging facility are you staying to? Taxis cabs are usually located just outside the cruise ship port and at some of the major hotels. You can also rent a car or a scooter and follow the directions on Google map. In regards to paying, there is a fee to access the snorkeling site which starts at $27.50 ( taxes included) - our self- guided tour, which also includes the entrance fee to the park. A guide is always present at the site and will be able to direct you to Ocean Atlas.

We will be docking at Nassau from noon - 8 pm only. Does the transportation with the packages include a departure point near the cruise pier? And is from 1 pm till 5 pm (when I believe the park closes) enough time to do both the snorkeling and the heritage tour? Thanks.

Hello Lisa....thank you for your inquiry...we would love to host you!
Unfortunately, the scheduled pickup time from the cruise port is 9:45 am- 10:00 am and the general departure from the park is between 2:00 pm- 3:00 pm. However, there are always taxi cabs for hire just outside of the port. The park closes at 4:30 pm and the last tour times for both tours are 2:30 pm, so this will only allow for one tour. Each tour is approximately 45 mins - 1 hour. We humbly apologize for the inconvenience. Perhaps on your next visit to Nassau, you will have the opportunity to do the other tour. :)

We would like to go to Clifton Heritage National Park by bus tomorrow. Do you know if this is possible and which bus should be taken?

Buses in Nassau are very few and very unreliable. Your best option is to take a taxi (which is not the cheapest) or book directly with Clifton by calling or emailing them, and book a package which includes round trip transportation. It’s really great value for money.

Hello lyn m,
There are no concerns or issues about sharks attacks! Snorkeling beach is the open ocean so many marine animals will be seen.

How far is this from where the cruise ships dock? Can you just take a walking tour, and what is the cost? Can you view the sculptures if you don’t go snorkeling? Thank you.
Written 18 February 2020
It’s quite far. If you take a taxi, depending on the traffic, might be a good 30 min drive. Yes you can take a walk tour.

Do you have contact information for the tour company you used to visit and snorkel at Clifton Heritage Nat'l Park?
Thank you.

I cant get the Web site we used to load but maybe try to call them (242) 424-7005. Also our resort had a office with people who sold excursions. You could contact were you are staying and they might be able to help you.

Hello, I am looking to go snorkling to see the underwater sculptures. How far out are they? Do you need a boat or can I just swim out to view them from the beach?
Written 2 July 2019
You can swim out to the statue. It’s a few hundred yards out. Recommend using a life jacket, the tide was a little strong and it was more physically straining to swim back to shore.

Hello BATB500!
Unfortunately, our snorkel beach is a No Mooring", "No Anchor" and "No Docking" zone. However, please feel free to do so at Johnston or Jaws Beach free of charge. When were you planning on visiting?
