Its a busy, hustling area of activity. A little bit of everything. Stopped by the Diamond International store - high pressure - not a good deal as advertised on the cruise ship, however, if money were not an option, I could have spent a lot. Beautiful pieces.

I loved to walk around and see the many shops offering deals on graffic tshirts and shot glasses but this place was very touristy. We found one local restaurant in the cut of bay street that gave us the real deal on their menu for locals. It was great and the conch salad was pretty good too. Good prices for... More

It is a nice shopping/eating area. Very typical tourist shopping area with sellers trying to draw you in.

Looks and smells just like any other downtown in the Caribbean. Same "high end" jewelry stores and junky t-shirt shops. It is rather dirty but if you are confident and know how to handle yourself around tourist places you'll have the upper hand. Haggle all you want and if you are willing to walk away you will get what you... More

Our family had a terrible experience along Bay Street upon returning from a cruise excursion to Balmore Island. The ferry from the island stopped at the docks on Bay Street and before the captain could get the ramp from the boat down to the dock the entire ferry was besieged by hustlers all yelling and trying to peddle everything from... The view walking up and down this street is nice. Many stores and places to shop/drink/eat/etc... However, the people that live there trying to sell you tours/taxis/etc is very diminishing to this "attraction." Hopefully this issue can be addressed somehow.

I don't know about spending part of your vacation here. It is super touristy and a lot of the shops are the same. It is clean, and there are nice places to stop, sit, people watch. It was a fun time, but I would have rather done something more Bahamas and a not tourist trap.

Bay Street caters to cruise passengers. It consists of watch, jewelry, to shirt and various trinket stores. It closes down between 5:00 and 6:00. What few restaurants there are close at the same time. At night it is dark and deserted and uncomfortable. The traffic is heavy and the sidewalks crowded when all the cruise ships are in port. There... More
