- Arya SAustin, Texas7 contributionsBeautiful GardenI went to this beautiful garden with my family. Let me say, words cannot describe how utterly majestic the garden is. It was such a sight to see the diverse collection of plants as well as animal species in the garden. The owner and her friend were so warm towards us. Talking to them felt as if they were old friends of ours. They made the trip to the garden all the more enjoyable. I would give this place a limitless amount of stars if I could.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 December 2023
- ElisabettaR17Tampa, Florida94 contributionsVery nice gardenWe spent an hour in this pleasant garden and took lots of photos of stunning flowers and a great variety of plants. We learned a lot from the detailed explanations. Cost is $10 per person. The road is one way so you need to make sure you are driving up the hill with the garden on your right. Four car parking in front of the entrance. They sell juice, snacks, gifts and fresh eggs ($8 a dozen, a very good deal for St Thomas).Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 December 2023
- Glitchy33 contributionsGorgeous plants, amazing views!!We stopped here on the way to Megans bay. It is worth a stop. It is a beautiful garden if you like botanical gardens which my travel group does... but it would be worth it for the views alone! there are a couple of spots where it opens up and you can see megans bay so perfectly from this spot!!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 January 2024
- perpetualpassengerKeystone Heights, Florida77 contributionsWell worth the visit. We visited Phantase on a beautiful cloudy rainy day in the morning. This is a garden for the sure-footed traveler. Steps through the thick forest and lovely flower lined paths create this beautiful botanical getaway. The interpretive signs were helpful and made the experience much more meaningful. There are benches and seating areas along the trails as well as a restroom for guests. Ponchos are offered for an additional $2 if needed. The staff was very pleasant and called a taxi for us once it was time to head out.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 February 2024
- john lLong Island, New York148 contributionsGreat way to spend some free time before catching flight homeWe planned to visit the garden on another day but it didn’t happen. On checkout day we drove up the hill on our way to the airport and was greeted by one of the sweetest ladies on the island who immediately launched into an informative description of the garden and all the sights we should be on the look out for. We climbed up and down to view all the beautiful plants and flowers imported from all over the world. It is clearly a labor of love to maintain this property and the pride shined through with each encounter with our greeter and the owner. We were there about 45 minutes and it was a worthwhile excursion and great way to spend our last few minutes on the island.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 March 2024
- Shana NHuntington, New York49 contributionsGorgeous little gem of a garden! What a gem! There are not many purely nature-oriented activities on St. Thomas, but this Botanical Garden is such a treat for a short visit. The number of different plants is astounding, and the flowers are beautiful. It's an easy walk through the gardens with benches for sitting and admiring. There are also turtles, parrots, and chickens. The woman working the booth was so friendly and knowledgeable.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 15 March 2024

- SHARATH AHUJABengaluru, India6 contributionsMINI EDED GARDEN, THE PHANTASEA BOTANICAL GARDEN IN St. THOMAS, U S VI.The Phantasea Tropical Botanical Garden in St. Thomas, U S Virgin Islands, is what I would call a MINI EDEN GARDEN. It was a delight to have visited the gardens and seen the many varieties of Orchids, Bromeliads and the so many other varieties of tropical plants. I was lucky to have spotted a pair of Hummingbirds during my short visit to the Gardens and The Bananaquit (The State Bird of St. Thomas). This is to thank Patsy who conceived and put together this beautiful garden for all nature enthusiasts to enjoy.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 4 August 2024

This place appears to be the work of one or two ladies, who are still adding to it. The many orchids i expected to see were apparenlty not blooming at the time (there were a few). Lots of wildlife though - lizards, many birds, chickens , peacocks and a lovely lady to answer your questions and provide you with info.

We loved the Phantasea Botanical Garden. They had so many beautiful plants growing in their natural habitat, and there were many different types of birds and lizards enjoying the space too. They had good documentation in the areas to learn more about the plants. The path is a simple circle located on the side of a hill with good steps and railings throughout. There were a few spots with benches and tables along the path to stop and relax which was really cool too. We could have stayed there all day. I believe it was just $10 for entry too which was well worth it to support such a cool, natural space.

Our group of ten (two families) really enjoyed this small botanical garden! The shade of the canopy kept everyone nice and cool as we learned all about the local plants and how they're thriving after two devastating hurricanes. The orchids are gorgeous and the other native plants are just as breathtaking. Definitely worth stopping by while you're in St. Thomas!

The grounds were amazingly well-kept. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable. She shared her knowledge not only about the plants, but about the animals there also. She told us about each chicken and turtles personality, which added character to the visit and we talked about long after we left. It was a wonderful experience!

What a hidden gem! The garden was beautiful and filled so many amazing orchids among other plants. Lots of steps but nothing too steep and there were resting places/benches along the way. We spent 1 1/2 hours here and loved talking to the woman who was in charge and very knowledgeable (sorry, I don't recall her name). We left with two plants 😁. Would 100% recommend checking Phantasea out!

WOW. My friends and I loved this place. @LuzElena gave us a wealth of information about the native and non-native flora on the island as well as their uses. I would recommend wearing good walking shoes as you'll be going up and down winding paths. It's about 2 acres but feels a lot bigger. Can't say enough about how much we loved this place.

This was one of the highlights during our trip to St Thomas. The orchids are breathtaking and you get occasional glimpses of the sea through the trees. We really enjoyed talking with the owner, who is very personable. Even my husband enjoyed it, after being dragged along.

First time we’ve been back since the hurricanes and Phantasea is just as lovely now as we remembered it. Highly recommend taking a few hours to see this gem and visit with the very friendly and knowledgeable hosts. Amazing plants and orchids, an escape from the sun, and no bugs. Very relaxing!

It’s a beautiful garden. It’s a terraced garden so you will be walking up and down stairs. There are plenty of place to rest if you need to. The orchards are lovely and it’s awesome to see how the owner has brought so many plants together symbolically. The view up near the top is amazing. Be sure to stop and appreciate it all.

Hello,
How much was the taxi from the cruise ship? I would love to see the gardens and want to make sure we keep it in our budget.
Thanks!
Morgan
Written 20 November 2018
Hello Morgan,
The typical taxi fare from the cruise ship dock to the garden is $8-10.00/person each way.
PLEASE make sure that the driver knows who and where we are located so that they do not take you to the wrong place. If they are not sure, please have them (or you) call us for directions. We also have many directional signs posted along the roads on telephone poles.
Also note that we are only fully open and staffed on Saturdays and Sundays, but do open on other days for cruise ship guests when you notify us that you will be coming. We just ask that you arrive as close to 9:00 as possible.

How much of the garden is wheelchair accessible?
Written 29 May 2018
Hello jjuulliiaaaa,
Unfortunately none of the garden is really wheelchair accessible accept the main entrance deck - where there are still many beautiful plants to view. We are located on a sloping hillside and the garden is a series of steps with handrails and flat connecting crosswalks, trails, and decks.

Dear Friends,
We would like to visit Phantasea in early March. However, how do you get there, cab, by foot, by horseback???
Written 7 February 2018
Hello Larry, The best ways to visit is by taxi. There are driving instructions on the website contact page also. If the taxi driver does not know where we are, then please just call us for directions. There are also lots of directional signs along the roads.
If you would prefer to visit on a weekday, please contact us in advance for an appt. as we have limited our hours since the hurricanes.
Written 9 March 2018
What currency is used if we pay at the gate? Are taxis still available as noted below from the area port and leaving the garden? We will be there for a day November 8th.
Written 20 August 2017
Hello Mary-Ann, we accept cash (US $) Visa and Master Card.
Taxis are available at the port. You just need to make sure that they REALLY know who and where we are. Some of them will want to take you somewhere else and you have to be insistent, or better yet, find one that has been to Phantasea before or knows that we are located on the one-way road on the way to Mt. Top. They can also call us for directions. If you would prefer a list of preferred taxi drivers that can meet you at the dock, then please visit our website and email me and I will forward you that information. I look forward to your visit on Nov. 8. Patsy B.

Will we be able to get a taxi from your location easily to our hotel Frenchman's reef?
Written 7 January 2017
Hello Debbie D.,
It is very easy for us to call you a taxi to take you back to your hotel after your visit to the garden. We do this very often for our visitors. We are located in a very convenient location for taxi service. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Is there a restaurant onsite or is there a place to eat a picnic lunch in the gardens?
Written 26 December 2016
Hello Debbie D,
We do not have a restaurant, but so sell a assortment of beverages and small bags of chips. We welcome you to bring your own picnic lunch and enjoy our gazebo area where there are some chairs and a small table. Hopefully in the future we will have a small café at the garden, but not just yet. We hope to see you soon!

Is it a far taxi ride from the cruise ship and is it easy to get a taxi back? Price for taxi?
Written 26 November 2016
Hello rxbetsy,
It is approx. a 15 minute ride from the cruise ship dock to Phantasea. The fare should be $8-10/person for 2 people or more (depending on which dock your ship is at). There is a taxi dispatch office at the dock, but PLEASE make sure that the driver REALLY knows where you want to go ( we are located on the one-way road on the way to the Mt. Top attraction). Even though we have been open for 1 1/2 yrs, many still do not know where we are located. We have signs posted along the roads with bright pink flowers in the upper right hand corner, so when YOU see the signs, please direct the driver in the direction of the signs. If they try to take you to another place, then DO NOT get out of the taxi and then ask them (or you) to call us for directions. When you have finished your visit at Phantasea it is very easy for us to call you a taxi that we use on a regular basis to take you back to the ship.
We look forward to seeing you soon. Have a great cruise!

Hello! I will be visiting PTBG and am wondering if there is a time you believe to best. Morning, afternoon? I am flexible since I am staying on the island. Thanks! Sheryl
Written 7 July 2016
Hi Sheryl,
I think that the mornings are best because it is a little cooler then. But if you are not coming until next week (July 11-15) then the afternoons would be better because we have summer camp field trips four days next week and they all start at 9-10:00 AM and finish by around 11:30. You could still come then, but it might be a little less peaceful when all the kids are here.
I look forward to your visit!
