The scale house remains from the Danish period, or before. The Scale is still there for you to see, and there are bills of lading and other interesting artifacts to review, as well as an accounting of Alexander Hamilton's ancestry on the island. There is a nice gift shop in part of the building, offering books and a variety of... More

It is a small building, and has only one attraction which is the scale that can be viewed in a few minutes. There is a gift shop in this building that occupies half the ground floor.

Other reviewers are right, it only takes a couple minutes to check out this piece of history. I'm glad we did. They really do need to improve their signage because the history needs to be shared. It is right down town where we know you will end up walking past to go to the docks. If the gift shop is... More

In the gift shop, you can buy a walking stick for $6. Carry it around town and everyone will ask you about. There are a couple nice plaques and one display of the scale. Takes about 5 minutes to visit, is free, and right next to the fort.

This doubles as a "visitors' center" so they have lots of information on the island, although I've found the staff aren't that knowledgeable. The signboards around the area are desperately in need of replacement, due to extreme weathering. Why isn't the Park Service doing this--such an important function in sharing information about the island. The boards inside the Scale House... More

Great to be able to see part of the island's history. It's right by the fort and part of the National Park system.

There isn't really any signage and we just stumbled across it. It will take you about 5 minutes to see the scale and read the sign on the wall. A good bit of history before you catch a cab to explore the rest of the island.

We visited the Scale House while touring other buildings in the area, it is a small building and won't take long to see. It was informative and along with the other locations help to paint a picture of the past on St. Croix.

It's amazing to see that there's some history to see of the Danish business trading center. The information station outside the scale house need some repair so that you can read more on the history.
