Beautiful hike! Didn't see any animals, other than really cool butterflies...and a wasp that stung me (might want to bring a mini first aid kit - I used sanitizer, which worked too), but the plants/water/walk were stunningly beautiful. Moderately challenging - slight incline, uneven path, a couple hours. Definitely recommend!

Worth visiting so that you can see the old plantation/distillery buildings. Still a work in progress, but the information boards are interesting, and as with most things in St Kitts & Nevis, the setting is beautiful.
A word of caution: you do not need a guide to show you around, but enterprising locals may try and hoodwink you into doing this...and then try and charge you $15 for the privilege! Suffice to say you can just wander around at your own pace and read the boards...and politely say "no, thank you" to anyone trying to persuade you otherwise.

Right by the Sky Safari entrance near Romney Manor, but fairly obvious, worth a detour. You can walk for 10 minutes or an hour or more by a water course up through the rain forest. Very nice.

We arrived here expecting, on the strength of previous reviews, a pleasant, unaccompanied stroll in the rain forest. We were met by several local "guides" who were clearly not employed by either the plantation/distillery or Sky Safari who operate on the same site. One of the unofficial guides held a very sick-looking baby monkey and asked if we wanted to pose with the monkey for a photograph. This is quite a common occurrence in St Kitts and I urge you not to support this cruel practice. The baby monkeys are taken from their mothers, they often have their teeth removed without anaesthetic and many are sick.
So, having told this individual we did not want to pose with his monkey and we simply wanted a short stroll into the rain forest, he then insisted that he was an experienced guide and it was not safe to go alone. This is simply not true. We had a very enjoyable half hour stroll along safe tracks close to a river. The whole experience would be greatly enhanced if these locals (who continued to pester us but then disappeared when the plantation/distillery staff arrived) were expelled from the site and the rain forest trails were clearly marked. I suspect any signs which may have existed have been removed by these "guides" to enhance their business. An eagerly anticipated trip to what is a lovely, lovely location was spoiled for us.

Beautiful trail...I unfortunately didn't get to see monkeys. If you stop here on a cruise, I highly recommend visiting the rain forest. It is a nice break from the beach scene.

This was a highlight of our trip. The hike through the rainforest gave us a chance to swing from far Tarzan vines, see green velvet monkeys, soak our feet and heads in one of the waterfalls, and see the ruins of an old sugar cane processing center. Others with us said this was a more dense rainforest than one might see in the rainforest tour in Jamaica. We loved it.

Definitely just take this one on your own... You do need water to bring with you because hey, it's a rain forest, and it's muggy! But the trails are decent (even though they are just dirt) and there is not much for a guide to point out, unless you are super interested in what each tree/plant is called.

Wingfield Estates is the old ruins of a former estate nestled in a small rainforest atmosphere. We made a stop here on our way to Caribelle Batik on a round the island tour by taxi. We did the whole island of St. Kitts, spent time at the beach and saw all the main attractions in just a few hours as St. Kitts was a port on our cruise holiday. It was fun to explore the old ruins and swing on a vine in the rainforest. Good opportunity for some great holiday pictures so definitely worth finding.

I've had a difficult time figuring out exactly where to write my review. We booked our excursion through Celebrity Cruise line and they called it St Kitts Rainforest Adventure. This excursion indicated we'd see a botanical garden at Romney Manor, shop at Caribelle batik and hike the rainforest trail, and hike the Wingfield Forest trail- all real close in proximity and not strenuous if you are in decent shape. We did all that and then were driven to an open air place that had a bar and what looked like restaurant seating except no one was going around, that I saw, taking food orders. The bar was taking drink orders! But, the greater issue I had was if this was a restroom stop or free coconut drink stop after we hiked then they shouldn't be charging or asking for tips when you come out of the ladies room. I was standing in line to use the restroom when I heard a girl, looked to be college aged, come back in and tell her mom they wanted her to pay them for using the restroom. I was appalled, I got out of line, came out of the door and looked at the lady and told her not to ask me, that when I heard they were charging I changed my mind. This is just ridiculous and totally turned me off to this stop. This stop was not even listed in description and on top of that 40 mins I would have rather used back at Romney Manor or hiking. I plan on discussing it with the cruise ship but also want to warn others if this is your itinerary to be prepared at that last stop. As for Romney Manor and Caribelle batik, it's a lovely place and I highly recommend grabbing a quick drink that overlooks the rainforest if you aren't shopping. The view is beautiful from there! I shopped and got several batik items, I actually could have used a bit more time in there but I understand not everyone wants to shop. The trails were fine, I like learning of fauna and I'm a photographer so seeing the lush landscapes and wildlife is why we chose this tour. We did see monkeys, hummingbirds and butterflies. The tour of Wingfield was informative, our guide did a nice job explaining it all. I do not regret going, I recommend it but I'd certainly inquire if you have the same last stop what the purpose is and if they will be charging to use restrooms, and why after paying for this tour they feel the necessity. FYI - you will have the opportunity to use restrooms at Romney Manor when you arrive and no extra charge.

I am not sure whether I did the Wingfield-Phillips trail; I asked zipline staff whether there was a nature trail which I could follow, and they pointed out the beginning of a trail which lead me to a stream but ended there. I walked back to where a narrow trail started towards left and followed it for more than 30 minutes through the rainforest up a ridge until it ended at a viewpont with a bench. It was equipped with occasional ropes, and maybe it was the correct trail. I had hoped for some kind of summit. But that was all. It can easily be followed on your own. Vervet monkeys are frequent on St.Kitts and sure enough I spotted some in the trees. To experience rainforest, the trail can be recommended. If you arrive from Basseterre by minibus ask to be dropped at the beginning of the road to the Wingfield Estate, and do not miss the stone with the petroglyph of a monkey on the way to the Estate.

Is there much elevation on this trail? A couple of friends are concerned it might be too difficult.

Is the Wingfield-Phillips Rain Forest Nature Trail located at the Caribelle Batik At Romney Manor? We are going to St. Kitts on the Carnival Conquest and I REALLY want to hike in the rain forest, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where this Rain Forest Nature Trail is on the island.
