Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a very nice hike. We did it solo, without a guide, and enjoyed it. The hike is well marked and a guide is not necessary if you just want to get up and down. The weather will dictate what kind of view you get at the top, but in general it was a positive experience. I would recommend hiking boots or other shoes with a good grip; it can be slippery on the rocks.

No need to go to the gym today as we got a major workout in nature climbing to the rim of the volcano. We did not descend to the crater which is another 900 feet down and back with ropes but we did explore Devil's Tooth.
This is a strenuous hike through rainforest and jungle over limbs and rocks. Totally doable for those who are fit, adventuresome and limber. Sturdy hiking shoes, water and snacks are a must. We were super happy to have a guide, Hicks, who kept us entertained, informed and safe. A native of St. Kitts, Hicks has been climbing the mountain for over 40 years. He has the experience and stories of a 65 year old with the body and agility of someone who is 30. What an inspiration. He made our visit and hike extra special. Ask for him when booking a tour. You will be in safe hands and you will learn a lot about local fauna and floral as well as island culture. A real treat. Thank you, Hicks.

We did a rainforest hike with O’Neil and it was exceptional! He was a wealth of knowledge, explaining the history and pointing out all plant and animal life along the trails. My kids loved keeping pace with him, asking him questions along our experience. Was a great day!

I came on a mother/daughter trip through my mom job so I was a plus 1. When I seen the option for a hike I just knew this is the tour that I wanted. This tour was amazing! Mr.O'Neil was 10/10 his knowledge of this tour to have the privilege to hike with the man who created this nature hike was a pleasure.(over 48years) say less. The different plants and herbs and history behind this forest just set it off for me! I highly recommend for any one who don't mind climbing walking and exploring book your tickets neowww! I'll be back! Thank you for allowing me in your space 🙏🏾

This is a very difficult hike. I would recommend this for young, fit, experienced hikers. We are older (mid-60s), somewhat fit, with some hiking experience. We were in survival mode most of the hike. Our guide Leshawn was good. He encouraged us in the beginning and kept telling us to take it slow. The hike took us (four people)EIGHT hours and we were all concerned we would not get out before dark, which we did.

Our small group met Oneil just outside the cruiseship port. He took us on an informative ride in his open-air vehicle to the rainforest. We visited the rainforest on a short but somewhat difficult hike (just one part was difficult). We all loved it! He is the man who originally developed the trails and was so knowledgable about the plants and wildlife. It was a great excursion with one of the most amazing men I've ever met.

I saw someone almost plummet to their death. Watched a man in my group break is ankle and have to be carried down the rest of the hike. I slipped and caused a human landslide. Peed in the “bushroom” four times. One of the guys in my group slipped and grabbed on to a small tree so he didn't keep sliding but the tree unrooted and he slid like 20 feet. You would think that the hardest part is going up the volcano, right? Think again! Going down you will slip and fall so many times. People in my group were rolling down this volcano and when you start rolling it’s so hard to stop because it is so slippery. It not super hard exercise wise as long as your in good shape. Just know that you will not make it out of the hike with out bruises or death. Would I do it again? Idk prolly. Also, the view at the top sucks.

This is a very challenging climb (not a hike) to the top. Figure on a heart-pounding
2 hrs up and 2 hrs down with a half hour at the top. By my Fitbit it was 23,000 steps, an equivalent of 14 km and 250 floors return trip. It was muddy, laced with vines and roots and slimy rocks. There is a real danger of falls and injury and no aid in sight. We had an excellent guide and I was grateful to have him as he pointed out things we would have missed. The trail is marked in places with orange paint but there many offshoots and it would be easy to get lost. Don't contemplate doing this unless you are very confident of your level of fitness and in my opinion the view of the jungle filled crater through a small gap in the trees was not worth the effort.

You can read differing reviews about the difficulty of this hike and the need - or not to take a guide. I am quite an experienced hiker, climber and adventurer but decided at the very last moment to heed advice and take a guide. There were a lot of slippery rope hauling sections which were more difficult on the way down than up. It was quite hard and I was grateful for the guide, howver if I had been with an expereinced friend we would have done it on our own without a guide and managed Ok but sense would be not to embark on it as a single climber.

My husband and I took this hike back in April of 2019. Shame on us for never getting around to writing this review! We were reminded recently of our wonderful experience at Mt. Liamuiga with O’Neil. We were so glad we booked with him because he is extremely knowledgeable and showed us spots we would have never found on our own. It was a challenging hike for us (in moderate shape) but so worth it! I uploaded a business card from O’Neil that we kept. I’m not sure if the information is accurate now 2 years later.

Do you pick up at the cruise port for the hike?
Also, do you have ago limits?
Thank you

Is there another way to experience the volcano without having to hike there? We are unable to hike. Is there a way to ride up to it? Taxi? Or? Thx
We are going the first week in November

You can do an island tour in a helicopter and they fly over the volcano

We are planning a trip there soon, and everyone seems to have found a guide through their taxi drivers or their cruise ship . Are there guides at the foot of the trail? Or near the park itself ? Thx
Written 28 May 2017
No. Any guides you find there will already be hired/ working. Entrance to park/ trailhead seems pretty remote and noncommercial.

Hi, does any one have info on the trail of the TRUE SUMMIT of Mt Liamuiga? The trail that starts N. of the mountain. Would really appreciate some info! Thx
Written 26 January 2017
No they did not take us to actual highest point. We just went to the crater rim

Qtpie, your post totally contradicts your initial comment about your adventuras side. Tables, bathrooms. It's outdoor hiking. Not a stair climber at your local gym. Your post is embarrassing.

Is the trail marked enough to do it without a guide? I've done plenty of climbing in the past, so not worried about physical fitness at all. Just don't want to have to have a tour guide or be in a slow group.

There is a worn path to the top. However, it's basically through gullies and erosion wear from water run-off. And there are a few sections that if you didn't know which way to go, you could easily make a wrong turn.
This is NOT a State Park/National Park path. And unless you've been there before, you really wouldn't know how to get to the start without a guide - even following the directions folks have given here on TripAdvisor. I had thought about attempting it myself, but after getting there, and going on it with a guide, I'm glad I didn't try. I would have gotten totally lost trying to get there, and then on the trail.
Written 10 January 2017
we would also like to go without a guide. How would we get to a starting point from the docks for Carnival cruise line. ?
Written 22 March 2016
No way without a guide. Even following the directions here on TA, you'd still get lost. (I thought of doing it myself, too, but after doing it with a guide, I realize just how hard the trailhead is to find, plus to know which way to go on it.)

We are going to be visiting St. Kitts next week and would like to book the hike directly with O'Neill. Does anyone have the contact details? It doesn't appear to be listed online.
