Rheilffordd Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake Railway) offers a delightful 9 mile return journey alongside Bala Lake, through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Our 2ft narrow gauge steam trains give excellent views of the lake amid its surrounding pastoral and woodland scenery, and of the nearby mountains, Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy. The railway provides an ideal centrepiece for a day’s visit to Bala Lake. The round trip of 1 hour can be broken at any of the stations to enjoy other activities - a pleasant 10 minutes walk into Bala town for shopping or merely browsing. There is access to the lake shore at Llangower station for swimming, fishing or simply lazing by the waterside.

Took the train from Llanuwchllyn to Bala with a return ticket , there's a cafe and gift shop at Llanuwchllyn but nothing at Bala other than the platform, the Bala station is also a 10 minute walk from Bala high street but if you follow the lake this is a pleasant walk. The volunteers are a cheerful and chatty lot... More

Not in anyway the largest or longest narrow gauge steam railway but without doubt it is the prettiest and nicest preserved station with tremendous ambiance and quality of preservation of rolling stock and in character volunteers - I have ever experienced. The railway's main station at LLanuwchllyn links the village with the beautiful market town of Bala. Originally it was... More

With an energetic 6 year old, my father on crutches and a rather nervous dog this could have gone horribly wrong but thanks to the lovely conductor and conductress we had a super ride along the lake. They made my nephew feel very very special by high fiving him before we could leave and then taking him in the signal... More

The Bala Lake Railway is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. The train journey takes about an hour and the views of the lake are stunning. The staff were really approachable and friendly as well.

We visited Bala lake railway during the October half term. It cost £25 for a family of four which we thought was a bit overpriced as you go along the track for 25 minutes then get off at the other end. As there wasn't really anything to see at the other end we came back on the next train. There... More

A taxi is warmer, more comfortable, quicker and cheaper. The conductor reminded us of Blakey without the humour. If you are going to use it, make sure you sit in a windowed carriage. Book Biscuit taxis instead.

Bala Lake Railway is one of North Wales is one of the smaller steam railways in North Wales, but still worth a visit. The journey is lovely, and some of the views are stunning! There is ample free parking at Llanuchllyn, as well as a café and gift shop, however at Bala station there are no facilities and "on road"... More
