- Kimberly BGrove City, Ohio7,475 contributionsBeautiful beach and water made for a relaxing dayA very beautiful beach. We went to Public Beach on 7 mile and it did not disappoint with its beauty. The water is crystal clear and calm and the sand is gorgeous. There are volleyball nets with a lot of activity around them. There isn't much shade along the beach but a nice place to have a relaxing beach day there.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 October 2023
- Captain TasosAthens, Greece8 contributionsA nice beach dayThe sand is amazing and the water clear enough! A lot of food options from local small businesses. We could rend chairs and umbrellas for 25$ per set. Overall a good experienceVisited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 December 2023
- browncondo2102Kitchener, Canada1,768 contributionsGreat beach areaWhite sandy beach as far as your eyes can see. The coral sand and sparkling turquoise water is a must see. - AnLil930 contributionsPlagued yet prettyWe’ve visited many times and were disappointed seeing the sea grass problems that have gotten worse on the South side of Grand Cayman, such as Seven Mile resort/Hampton Inn. Many Seven Mile beach resorts lost all access to the sea due to mountains of sea grass, except West of Coral Beach. I don’t even know if catamarans depart at the usual spots like Marriott; the waters were choppy with big waves at the Westin. Across the street at Mini Mart was Captain Marvin’s tourist counter for people who don’t have a car and wanted to go to Turtle Farm or snorkeling sites. There isn’t tons to do on Seven Mile, but the lovely view and hotel bars along Seven Mile make up for it. Bring cash for a cabana or tip, and join the walkers on the sand. Who said fitness is boring?!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 December 2023
- ElyseCaledon, Canada195 contributionsBest beach on the island!Seven mile beach is definitely the best of several great beaches on the island. The water is crystal clear, and the almost white sand never seems to get hot on your feet so easy to walk on. There are areas along the beach that have some coral, so it is possible to do a bit of snorkeling. The further away from George Town you get, the traffic along the beach settles as there are always cruise ships at the George Town port.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 January 2024
- nvirpaRichmond, Virginia54 contributionsAmazing Beach! We were on a cruise and opted to go to the beach on our own instead of taking an excursion. The whole process was so easy. Taxis were waiting outside the port. We were taken to Seven mile beach and dropped off in an area with vendors, a food truck, restrooms and showers. Hotels were near by if anyone wanted to eat at a restaurant. As soon as we got out of the taxi we were given a voucher for the return ride to the port. A nice young man introduced himself and led the way to the beach. He made arrangements for 2 chairs and 1 umbrella- $20 for the day. The beach was not too crowded. Our ship was the only one in port that day. The water was beautiful and we had a great time for the few hours we were there.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 January 2024
- Rick DJupiter, Florida585 contributionsPick your SpotSo, this is a mixed review, because while all of this beach provides beautiful views and a pleasant experience, the enjoyment factors vary based on, imo, crowds, parking and accessibility to food and other amenities. We attempted to go to the public spot up near the Kimpton, where there’s a parking lot and restrooms. The lot was packed, and mostly with cruise ship shuttles, so the beach itself was jam packed too. Me, I like some personal space, so we left there and went south to Governors Beach, across from Governors Plaza. Not as much parking, and restrooms were port o let’s, but the beach itself was exactly how I like it: sparsely occupied, quieter and 50 yards from my car. Views were obviously awesome, both land and sea. Seemed more local, although a few cruisers found their way there, but not en masse. If someone ran a chair and umbrella rental stand there they’d kill it but I’m guessing it works best as a public beach the way it is now. Went back for the sunset which did not disappoint. Will go back if I get back here for sure.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 February 2024
- Bonnie CCorona, California1,758 contributionsJust as describedMy sister and I drove over from the East End for the day. There are designated public beaches, but truly, you can use any part of the beach. You obviously can't use hotel or resort chairs, etc. The sand is pristine, beautiful water. A must see if not staying at one of the hotels along this area.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 21 February 2024
- golfashion1920 contributionsGrand Cayman is beautifulGrand Cayman is beautiful, but 7 mile Beach is crowded. The free beach shuttles are great, but are not clearly marked. We finally learned to request pickup through our hotel; other hotels will call them for you if you don't have cell phone access. The people everywhere in Grand Cayman were VERY FRIENDLY! It is also probably the safest place we have visited.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 February 2024
- T SPhoenix, Arizona9 contributions7 Mile BeachOur condo was on the southern end of 7 Mile Beach where it is a bit rocky. Just to the north of us, it turned into soft, beautiful sand beach and it goes on and on. We walked up and down the majority of the beach and found it amazing. Water is warm and clear for swimming and the waves were never an issue the entire week we were there. It seemed like a great beach for families. My only complaint is that there are not very many bars/restaurants close to the beach. There were a few to the far north end, but even those were a bit tucked away and it wasn't clear whether people walking up off the beach were welcome. We were left wondering if Grand Cayman had some sort of restriction against having bars/restaurants within 300 feet of the beach.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 March 2024

If you're going on a cruise, I don't recommend paying the $$$ for the excursion here. You can take a taxi for $7 then rent a beach chair and/or umbrella for $5 each at the beach. That's much better than the $50 to $60 paid for on the ship. Use the $$ you save for a drink, or 2 and lunch...it's more than worth the savings! It can get a bit crowded, but the water's great! Not bad to spend the day chillin'!

There are many different experiences within the 5.5 miles of crystal clear waters of the 7 mile beach. Rocky areas are a good choice for snorkeling. Sandy white beaches for swimming and play. Make sure you find the one that suits your needs for the best experience. We came in on a cruise. Walking is not a viable option. We took a cab and gave instructions to the driver for what we were looking for. All of the beaches cost money, although there are additional benefits such as beach chairs, umbrellas, bathrooms etc. We paid $23 per person and $20 for the cab.

This place is heaven when it comes to the water and sand. Clear, aqua blue waters for as far as the eye can see. The sand is clean, fine, and not hot. There did not seem to be any shells where we were, but the dried (?) coral that washed up was really neat. I'm used to Northern Atlantic beaches. This one was so calm and clear. The water must have a ton of salt because it was so easy to float. Very very enjoyable. The ONLY reason I am giving it 4 stars is because of where we were. The beach we went to was part of a ppackage set up through a Dsney Magic cruise. They had 3 or 4 rows of beach chairs and umbrellas that were shoulder to shoulder. The first row was almost at the water line. Even though there weren't a lot of people there (we were the only cruise ship even there), it made it feel incredibly crowded. The water was great, but if you like to sit in a chair and relax, find a different spot to do it. I don't know exactly how that is done, but if you're on a cruise, make sure that wherever you are getting dropped off is worth it. What I experienced was definitely not what others did on this site, leaving me a bit disappointed that we didn't look into other options and just trusted the cruise line's suggestion/package. Also we paid for 13 chairs and 7 umbrellas and could only find 10 chairs and 5 umbrellas. It was fine because it was so clausterphobic we didn't really stay there anyway, but still... They also only had us there for 3 hours, when the itinerary made it look like it would be more like 5. Misleading.

6 ships in port. Crazy number of people elbow to elbow. Don't do this to yourself. It is beautiful water but seeing perhaps 2,000 (no lie) people trying to have a good time all in the same spot, was more than we could handle! Just don't go if there is more than 1 ship at the dock.

We have been coming for 25 years, staying on SMB, the Westin and Villas of the Galleon, which have more spacious beaches than the Ritz. The view from the water is what you care about—don’t let the facades confuse you. .Safe, the bluest water you’ll find anywhere. White sand, no seaweed. Walk to dinner. Love SMB!

We took a minibus to get to the beach from the tender arrival place. The 7 mile beach was really really nice. We stayed under the roof of a public cabana which provided good shade and breeze to all of us, especially during kids' nap time. We arrived quite early so we were able to secure one that we shared with others as it was quite big. Bathrooms were in a blue building separated from the beach. My suggestion is to try to bargain a price with the minibus drivers. Also make the driver stick to their promise like we did, as ours wanted to charge per person after saying he would be charging per seat and made us hold our kids on the lap to fit more people.

My girlfriend and I walked a 3-kilometre stretch of Seven Mile Beach between our hotel, the Comfort Suites, in the South to Governors Beach in the North several times. The sand is quite smooth and great for walking barefoot. The whole beach is public up to the high tide mark. There are marked public accesses from the West Bay Road. We watched the sun set several times from the beach. I would recommend to bring a towel, hat, sunglasses, and wear sunscreen.

I reviewed this beach 10 years ago and much has changed. This was one of our stops on our March 2023 cruise and we were hoping to go to the Royal Palms again for food and drinks, snorkel in the same area, and try to walk back to the ship again. Instead, as many of the hotels and restaurants are no longer there including the Royal Palms, our taxi driver from the cruise pier took us to the public beach. It was the same sand and water but the beach was crowded with chairs, umbrellas and people everywhere. The experience was fun because we were with two other couples from the cruise, sharing the taxi, watching each other’s equipment, etc. Very few fish were spotted but perhaps if you brought some dog biscuits with you, the fish may have been more plentiful. The beach has washrooms, food and adult beverage vendors, chairs and umbrellas, so that was ok, but not the same experience we had enjoyed 10 years ago. The public beach was further away so walking back was not an option but there were a continual line of taxis taking people back to their hotels and cruise-ships for $5 a person. This is much more efficient than the old public bus but a little less quaint. I would still return here on my next cruise to Grand Cayman.

Seven mile beach is beutiful, clean, and covered with white sand. In April its quite empty during weekdays, particularly from the morning to around 4 pm when locals arrive from work. The water is clean, crystaline and with a beautiful shade of light blue water. One of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in the world.

We've visited many Caribbean islands and 7 mile, Grand Cayman is our favorite. Very walkable (sand is soft), no hustlers or vendors, great people watching. Has a few major hotels on the beach but their beaches are very crowded. We rented one of the many AirBnb/VRBO condos that are available with their own beaches. Some say the Caymans are "too American." Its true that Americans will feel more at home here than most other Caribbean islands and travelers must decide for themselves if that is a plus or a minus. Cayman is very expensive.
We stayed right on 7 mile beach, did not rent a car, and walked everywhere. The only taxis we took were to and from the airport.
Weather can be hot, even in January. We were lucky to have some strong winds during our stay that kept things cooler (mid-80s).
7 mile is a west facing beach so it is rarely hit with the Sargasso seaweed that plagues so many Caribbean beaches.
We plan to return for another week next year.

Hello. We will be stopping at Grand Cayman on a cruise in 2 weeks. Can you please advise the location on 7 mile beach that you were referring to. Is it open to the public or private? We have visited 7 mile beach on past cruises and loved it, but now most of the resorts which used to allow day passes to use use their private beaches and facilities no longer allow it, so we're stuck. We would really like to find a public beach area which has chairs and umbrella available. Any idea?. Much appreciated if you can provide any suggestions.
Thank you,

Today is November 16, 2023. Any updated information on where you can go on 7 Mile Beach for a few hours, rent chairs, have lunch? Many of the places mentioned on this forum are now closed (ie. Calico Jack's, Royal Palms) or no longer offer day passes or day-use rooms. Holiday Inn is not on a family friendly beach, though they do offer a day pass. Thanking in advance!

Do they have lockers to rent for our valuables so we can go in the water to swim? Are the lockers safe at 7 mile Beach for our phones and wallets?
Written 11 April 2023
I am not aware of any and we did not use any lockers but we felt totally safe to leave our belongings on the beach. A lot of people do that just fine.

Trying to decide whether to do the excursion to Sting Ray City through Royal Caribbean or Rowan Water Sports. Does anyone have a recommendation or another company they like? I want to do Starfish point, and snorkel, as well.
Written 21 March 2023
We used Blue Ocean Tours via Trip Advisor and did a private tour for 4 people. That made it intimate although there were crowds at the Sting ray Cove. Most groups are large (15 to 20 or more) and there were very few star fish for that part of the trip, so I cannot recommend the large groups. It’s very fun to do. We loved Blue Ocean Tours. They did pick up and drop off at hotel.

Maybe people sit on towels or bring their own beach chairs. I would avoid hotel beaches as they are extremely crowded.

This has not been an issue for us on 7 mile beach. Stay away from the shops near the Cruise Port (which is not on 7 mile beach). The big mall, Camana Bay, might be a bit more crowded, but even that has never been bad.
As far as where to go, we have tended to stay around 7 mile beach and go towards West Bay. There is still a lot of the Island and Georgetown we have not explored. The nice thing about 7 mile is that if you are on the beach facing the ocean, you can see if any cruise ships are docked by looking far down to your right.
Enjoy.
