- Mark T.San Francisco, California41 contributionsThis is what you dream about. One of my bucket list items in life is to swim with stingrays on a tropical island in shallow aqua clear water and that is exactly what I experienced at Stingray City. We took a 30-minute boat ride out to the sandbar and experienced something that I'd been dreaming about for almost 30 years. Back in the day, I used to watch a movie called Flipper and I remember seeing a scene of stingrays swimming gracefully underwater and have since been wanting to swim with them. I finally made it happen and it's a trip I'll never forget. This is a for sure to do when in Grand Cayman. We did a 3-stop tour. The first stop was a deeper water snorkel experience, the second was Stingray City and the last was Starfish Point. It was a 3-hour tour and every minute was worth it. I can't wait to go back!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 October 2023
- Iris B167 contributionsAwesome experienceI was very wary of spending money to go to stingray City- which is a sandbar area where the stingrays congregate. But it was fantastic. Loads of rays the day we went. We went with Ocean Frontiers from the East End at Kaibo Yacht Club. Bring your snorkel and mask and be able to look underwater- and save your face from getting splashed by the waves. Feed the rays with provided bait. Little kids have to be held but still enjoyed the trip. Then drive over to starfish point - not worth paying to go there! If you're staying on the west end of Grand Cayman, it's ok to do the 2 stop Stingray City and Starfish Point. Bring a water bottle and a towel.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 October 2023
- Keiffer81Mio, Michigan124 contributionsNovember 2023 vacationThe tour guide was great. Knowledgeable, caring and helpful to the guests getting in the water and out. Photos where taken with a stingray being held by another tour guide. Highly recommend this excursion.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 December 2023
- Kalia C47 contributionsMagicalWhat a day… what a day! My husband and I were on the fence about this excursion because our family of 5 with 2 being toddlers but boy oh boy I’m glad we changed our minds. The location is simply magical and the stingrays are freaking huge and friendly. The water was beautiful ,warm and it wasn’t overcrowded with people. My 7y/o had a time snorkeling and racking up the years of good luck. I think by the time my husband and son finished kissing the stingrays we totaled 30 solid years of good luck. My daughters, 1 and 2 ,also loved their experience . They were my biggest concern but they completely If you’re traveling with family including littles or a minimum of 4 adults I would absolutely suggest a private charter with Barefoot Charters. Is that expensive ? No not really if you consider the price you pay p/p for a larger tour . Is it worth it ? Yes and Yes, having the luxury of a private charter removed %99 percent of the worries with my kids. We had a more intimate experience , and we were treated to additional noted sites during our time. Our experience with Barefoot Charter was next level. Highly recommended!Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 December 2023
- bart p28 contributionsAMAZINGGreat tour and lots to see. The coral garden was neat to see. Kissing stingrays was fun and it made my day. Starfish point was pretty, we found maybe 6-8 starfish. My sister and her family also saw a jellyfish.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 January 2024
- Happy Mamma962 contributions7am sunrise with the raysWe went on the 7am stingray/snorkel tour with White Sands on a Saturday out of Kaibo since we were staying near Rum Point. I would highly recommend it as you have the place to yourself, and the rays are hungry, though it won’t be as sunny as later in the day, you can get photos without tons of other people and boats. Chris was the best, showing us how to safely feed these sweet giants. Much different than spotting one or two, they brush up against you by the dozen. The snorkel part had a few nice patches of coral and tropical fish, but not like big snorkel destinations around the world. Still worth it for sure.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 February 2024
- Sue ISudbury, Massachusetts2 contributionsHugged by a stingrayMy husband and I decided to have an adventure and opted for the 2 1/2 hour tour that included a visit with the stingrays and snorkeling at a reef. We are both in our 60’s and thoroughly enjoyed it. The crew was exceptional, helpful when needed and the photographer took great pictures that we purchased. It made our vacation complete!Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 February 2024
- tampabaymom5Tampa, Florida153 contributionsA REAL ENCOUNTERYou experience a nature encounter in their natural habitat. It was exciting. This particular day it was absolutely PACKED with private tours so the entire sand bar was a big party. If you bring raw squid to feed them (NO! Not crackers or human food) they will climb up your back and circle your feet.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 February 2024
- BK&SKAkron, Ohio19 contributionsUncomfortable and amazingThis is a very unique nature experience. First the sandbar in the middle of the ocean is cool. Interacting with the stingrays is uncomfortable and amazing at the same time. Highly recommend it. Also, highly recommend Marvin’s Watersports as your guide.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 March 2024
- Spencer JGreensboro, North Carolina22 contributionsDO THIS TOUR!This is probably the only thing that is a MUST do for the Cayman Islands. Such innocent creatures. I recommend a good tour company, and plenty of patience. Captain Marvin’s has done hundreds of tours on the island. Directly across from the Westin. You can park your car there too.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 21 March 2024

The stingray city was so crowded with boats holding lots of folks it really wasn't all that fun. I'm short so had to be on tiptoe or tread water. Each boat's captain had a stingray and you had to swarm around the captain where they took pictures of you that they later sold for $$$

We booked the Stingray City, Coral Garden and Starfish tour with Stingray City and it was cancelled. We have repeatedly sent e-mails, attempted to call (the mailbox is full) for over a month. To this date we will have not received our refund.

My friend and I visited the Stingray City Sandbar on a tour booked by our hotel concierge through Captain Marvin’s Watersports. We were picked up at our hotel at 7:15 am on a Tuesday morning. We were driven to the office to pay for the tour and given our boarding passes before driven to the marina. There were about a dozen people on the tour.
We had to take our shoes off before boarding our boat, the North Sounder. We were given muffins and juice/water before we departed at 7:50 am. We arrived at Stingray City Sandbar at 8:15 am. There were plenty of stingrays around. The tide was high and water was up to our chests.
Since I wasn’t a good swimmer, I got a life vest and a crew member helped me around the water. We got to “kiss” a stingray while a photographer took our photos. The photos were available to be bought for US$50 cash or US$52 by credit card. The photos were loaded on a USB drive. We were also given food to hand-feed the stingrays. We spent about 40 minutes at Stingray City Sandbar before the boat departed.
Definitely bring a towel to dry off afterwards. Wear your swimwear under your clothes before boarding the boat since there is no change room on the boat.

We took the RED SAIL catamaran out to Stingray City - highly recommend doing both! The Cat ride was so smooth & relaxing, then swimming with the Rays was amazing as others have said.
Then drop us off at Rum point for lunch shopping (wife's favorite) and snorkeling for me. pickup is in 2 hours then back to the dock from which you came, an all together great time and well worth the money.

Booked this excursion on Trip Advisor before going on a cruise. Doing it that way saved me more than $20 American dollars. The excursion included pick up and drop off at Royal Watler cruise ship terminal, boat ride out to Stingray City as well as a reef snorkel and additional stop at Starfish Point. Highly recommend it. Our guide gave us a brief educational talk about the stingrays and starfish and allowed everyone in the group to touch and even kiss the animals. It goes without saying that you want to wear swimwear and bring along suntan lotion, towel and waterproof pouch for your phone/camera. Snorkel gear is provided free of charge.

We have been here several times and it depends on how many tours are at Stingray City at the time you are there the kind of activity you get. The last time we were there, the tours were low, our guide was good and we had lots of activity. This place is always fun.

Note that there are 2 Sting Ray City Sites - 1. A Sand Bar which about 3 to 5 ft deep and 2. A Diver's location about 13 to 15 ft deep. This is about site #2. The Rays are absolutely safe and very playful. The guide provide food for the rays and if you want you can feed them. It is a safe location and with the other smaller fish searching for left over morsels, it is like an aquarium that you are part of. Since it is for diver's all parties must be diver certified. As for Site #1. This is the same, but can be appreciated by all ages, for those you can/will snorkel. Biggest piece of information: They are like big friendly lap dogs and feel like a solid satin pillow on your skin.

I cannot put into words how amazing this excursion was. We did the stingray sunset tour that came with the visit to stingray city and a champagne sunset boat ride with a stop at starfish island. We learned of this excursion at our resort orientation and I’m so glad we did it.
We booked through Ocean Frontiers and our guides Ben and Liam were amazing! They were so knowledgeable and gentle with the stingrays. They made a point to keep everyone engaged and comfortable. The stingrays are friendly and the water is so clear! I cannot say enough good things about the two of them and the experience as a whole. If you’re on the fence go for it! It is definitely worth it!

We went to Stingray City with Red Sail charter. The crew made the experience spectacular. Our chief guide was incredible with the stingrays and in showing us how to place our hands and rest the stingrays on our chest. That enabled me to cradle more than a half dozen on my own. It was an experience of a lifetime for both me and my wife. From there we went a short distance to the reef to snorkel and again our guides helped make it a great experience that both of us enjoyed. My service dog was on the boat with us and all passengers and crew were great about it which also helped make it a great experience.

My husband and I went to Stingray City with Hot Shot, from Ambassador Divers. We've been there with him before, and were thrilled to learn he was back with Ambassador. He is entertaining, funny and very familiar with the stingrays, as well as VERY clear as far as what to do and what not to do. He's wonderful with adults, but even better with children, if that's possible! He makes everyone (even those from other charters whose captains aren't quite as involved) feel welcome and important. He knows where the best spots are for the two snorkel trips, too. The afternoon trip was the culmination of our vacation, and I can't think of a better way to wrap it up. Thanks to Hot Shot, John and Jafet...and of course, Ambassador Divers!

Do people occasionally get stuck with a stingray barb? Seems that with so many interactions it would b bound to happen, but I don’t see any posts about safety here?
Written 16 February 2024
No, the barb is on the top part of the tail and not raised when they are happily feeding. Your biggest risk of injury is getting your palm nipped if you don’t properly hold the food like an ice cream cone for suction. That and tired facial muscles from smiling too much. These guys are so soft and sweet and used to people. I highly recommend it especially the 7am pre crowd excursions.
Written 17 February 2024
This has probably been answered, but couldn't find it for sure.... Are there people with boats waiting when your cruise ship docks at Grand Cayman that will take you to Stingray City? There are always taxi's so I assume there will be boats too, but we don't want to miss the stingrays! We also want to get out there as soon as possible, and have had to wait for tours we have booked before in other ports. Does anyone have information? Thank you!

Bisogna fermarsi in hotel

My children are 9,8 and 6 is this an appropriate excision for them?
Written 21 October 2019
Yes. The water is about 4 feet deep and maybe deeper in some areas but I would have them wear a life jacket or you could hold the children. The younger one you may want to hold until they get used to the environment. The stingrays are very friendly and that can be a little scary at first. I went to Grand Cayman twice and never wanted to see the stingrays because it didn’t sound fun to me but the last time we went we finally saw them and it really is an incredible experience. I would advise trying to go when the cruise ships are not there.

Hi there. I've seen a ton of ads regarding going to stingray city on a large boat with a group. Can you provide me with information about where you found a private boat to take your family and roughly the cost. thank you in advance

We used Captain Marvin. I believe they do private tours as well. Check out their website for more information.

Thx

I don’t know the owner and don’t work for them. I do remember that they have morning pick up at 7:30 and afternoon at 2:30, I would suggest to call them directly to find out
