- Chris MHopewell, New Jersey91 contributionsGreat hike and beautiful beachWe took the trail from Flamands and loved it. The trailhead is pretty easy to find…just stay on the road head west through Flamands until it ends with a barricade in the road. From there, it is a one mile single trail (no forks in the road or anything like that) to the beach. You’ll have views of the ocean for just about the entire hike, which I would rate as moderate. There are a few inclines but nothing strenuous. Some amazing rock formations. Oh, and lots of goats. Plenty has been written about the beach itself. It’s stunning and secluded and worth the visit. Be sure to pack water, snack, and lot of sunscreen.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023
- bpbuckeyeUnited States34 contributionsBest Beach in St BarthWe spent a lovely morning here and found it to be our favorite beach on the island. Very swimmable with gentle surf, clean sand, lots of interesting rock formations for pictures and many little coves to spread a blanket and chill. A little more difficult to reach than the other beaches, but worth it.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 February 2024
- Lisa MAnn Arbor, Michigan7 contributionsAmazing beach, worth the hikeBased on other reviews, I was a bit leery of doing the hike. But have to say, it was not that bad. I’m 61 years old, I hike and bike regularly. I wouldn’t consider myself an athlete, it took me about 20 minutes and I never felt like I was in peril. The path is wide enough and I never felt like I was on the edge. If you’ve hiked in Arizona, California, or Utah, this is nothing. Having said all that, I would not recommend this hike for young children. Once you get there, the cove is amazingly beautiful, and since we were there in august, not too crowded.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 August 2024

Getting to Colombier on foot involves a scenic and relatively short hike down a hillside, part of which has "stairs". Perhaps because it is not readily accessible, the beautiful sandy beach was relatively uncrowded. The bay is protected on either side, so even on a somewhat windy day the sea was calm enough for swimming.

First visit back to Colombier since the hurricane. We hiked from the Flamand beach access. Good trail and a mix of reasonable elevation. Recommend this over the strait down and straight up trail from the Colombier overlook. Wear what you like, but there's not a lot of margin for wearing flip flops. The rocky trail offers good views and a few goats and turtles along the way. We loved this beach during our previous visits, but 36 mourning balls have changed the remote feel of the area. The hurricane also broke up much of the Rockefeller stone dock. We were looking forward to revisiting the paradise when the "landing crafts" began their shuttle service to shore. Imagine 30 high schoolers on an adventure...with their boombox. Then there is the lunch on the beach service including tents, tables and chairs. I'm sure there are still some quiet days but this trip it was too crowded for our taste. Worth visiting for the view and imaging the area before "paradise lost", but we didn't stay very long.

Here to warn others like me.
We took the hike from Petite Anse near Flamands (the "easier" route) based on the recommendation of our hotel who stated it was a 20 minute "walk". Not so! The hike seems easy enough until you get to a rocky clearing after the shrubbery. The path is totally exposed to the edge of the cliff in sections and quite narrow. At one point we had to turn around after coming to the realization that it would be too risky. One slip on the crumbly, dry rocks and goodbye! It was a bit harrowing for me who has developed a fear of heights near drop offs. I would not take my children here. Needless to say we were not able to enjoy Colombier beach. The hike round trip is about 2 miles. We only reached 1.2 miles round trip before turning around and that took roughly 30 minutes. Must bring lots of water, hiking sandals or good sneakers and a hat. You are in full sun much of the time.
For those that enjoy walking on the edge this hike will not be a problem.

Beautiful beach with soft sand and stunning water. We hiked the goat path from the lookout point and while a decent effort on the way back up it was a short hike. We were glad to have a beach tent for some shade as there aren’t any shady spots.

We ended up doing the longer hike from the view point above as we were not aware of the other access road. It is quite steep and slippery while going down and you have to basically slide down the last few steps(at least I did). The beach was worth the effort. It was pristine. There were a few boats that were around and very few people on the beach. There are no facilities. The climb up was strenuous and we had to take a few breaks. I would not recommend this if you are not a fit person.

Beautiful beach, but a heck of a hike to get down to it from the parking area and then you have to get back. Worth the effort, but wear shoes appropriate for rocky mountain trails and take water with you. The beach is fabulous!

Our driver dropped us off at the top. The views from up top are spectacular.
Once you've taken pics and videos, it's time to head down. Make sure you're prepared before you go. No facilities here so bring sandwiches, snacks and drinks. Wear sneakers but have flip flops for the beach. The hike down isn't that bad, it's going back up that's the fun part. Along the way you will see plenty of turtles and wildlife.
The beach is beautiful and what you come to expect from St Barts. Well worth it in the end just do it prepared.

I have been to columbier beach via boat, and it is beautiful. This review is about the hike/path from Flamands.
After reading a ton of reviews, my husband and I (mid forties) were confident that we would be fine on this “easy” trail. We are both pretty fit and walk miles a day when at home and hike frequently. I am recovering from a broken ankle and am not as stable as I was before I broke it. This is not a trail, this is a path that goes along the edge of a mountain with steep drops. There are multiple points in which you literally need to jump from one rock to the next and if you slip you will be tumbling to your death. We happened to go when it was raining and that made it even more dangerous.
I think it’s extremely important to note that the hike itself is not overly hard. The issue with it is that there is a cliff next to you almost the entire time. Any instability (surgery, the wrong shoes, rainy weather, windy weather, elderly, young children, etc) makes this hike much more dangerous than let on by most reviewers. Really consider if this is a good fit for you or your family before taking this hike.

How far is Columbier Beach from the cruise terminal via walking the goat trail? How much time should we allow?

Were you not warned that it was a hike through the rocks? I only ask because absolutely everyone knows this. Either way and if you were not warned, it is not the fault of the beach but of your guide.
