Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You don't realise the impact until you really get to the memorial and see the pictures of the ship on how they were transported and it then hits you hard.
The white symbolizes mourning in the Caribbean. The triangular shape is the triangular trade between Europe, Africa and the Americas, orientation heading 110° East, the Gulf of Guinea where the boat would likely come. 300 slaves drowned and only 6 survived and they are living in Martinique to tell the stories of the attrocities.
The diamond rock & vista point is only 5 mins drive up the road. You can actually see the diamond rock from this place.

The story of this tragedy is well documented at the memorial. So sad to read and a reminder of just one of the many horrors of slavery. The only thing we didn’t like about the visit was this one group who were posing for different pictures in front of the statues…really people, please show some respect.

It is good to pause and rest a bit remembering what we have done to those how could not defend themselves. There is a great view at the Diamond rock, however you feel slightly oppressed still a after almost 2 centuries by what has happened in the waves below. You can only tell yourself to always stand up against such things to never happen again. A must to go.

This is in an outdoor setting. The sculptures of slaves who drowned manacled to a ship when the ship went down. The sculptures face the sea.

Interesting memorial to see. You will find information on a table nearby. Easy parking. Very informative and just sad to think of what happened there.

Went to see the statues. They were erected to honor the slaves who died when their ship was caught in a storm. Much to contemplate.

When we put the GPS to find the location of the site, it was not easy to find but at the end we reached it at dark. It has stunning ocean view, especially the view toward the famous Island.
There is not much to experience if you do not have a guide book to learn about its history.

Cap 110 is a memorial site in Martinique that was dedicated to the illegal slave trade. On the night of April 8,1830 a ship carrying slaves crashed in a storm. The boat was completely destroy. There were about 300 individual on the ship. The only known survivors were 86 and only 46 corpses were recovered, which they were all buried in the cemetery.

All 15 statues faces lean in the same direction, overwhelmed, eyes lowered to the land and the sea. They represent the crowd of the anonymous victims of the slave trade. The triangle of statues also face towards 110 east-southeast towards Africa and the gulf of Guine.

After reading about the history of Martinique and this monument, I was very moved to visit. The drive to the memorial is very hilly, as Martinique is very montainous. The site was a beautiful and humbling piece of history. After the visit, I returned to the car and cried like a baby. If you are downloading maps, download this location.

I was blown away by the power of these wonderful statues. The sadness etched upon the faces, and the feeling of helplessness that these men procure is incredibly touching.
I softly stroked their faces trying somehow to alleviate their pain. To no avail of course, but being their and being able to witness this truly important piece of work by Laurent Valère, to remember the evil that was done, is very moving.
