Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fascinating insight into the Empress of France. Unfortunately everything is in French, but the lady on the desk gave us a thorough tour in English. Toilets on site but no restaurant as advertised. 1-2 hours is plenty of time to walk around. There is plenty of places to eat a picnic.
Pity no cafe/ restaurant..tourists need feeding.
No audio guide or souvenirs to buy. Would have loved a fridge magnet of Josephine. They are missing something. They need to realise 2 euros for oaps is not enough money for a museum . Money needs to be raised to preserve this history!

I really enjoyed this museum, especially its focus on centering the lives of enslaved people. The museum contextualizes Empress Josephine’s family history with the broader history of slavery and plantation labor in Martinique. The archival research on display was rigorous but also accessible to French speakers whether or not they were familiar with the history. Well done, and many thanks to all the staff.

This Museum, dedicated to the home site and remains of the birthplace of Josephine, best known as the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, is mostly in ruins (the sugar mill) and a period building which houses photos of the two. It can best be described as "interesting" but of interest to the people of Martinique. I could not recommend that one journey here just to see the site but if you are on Martinique for other purposes, and have an interest in Josephone, this site could be of interest to you.

It's the birthplace of Josephine, Napoleon's first wife. One ruin can be visited from the parking lot and the one intact building is not worth the price of admission. It's sufficient to view it from afar and read about it from any free tourist pamphlet.

The setting is great, the garden and the parking are well maintained. The guides were very helpful and spoke French and English. Interesting historical facts about Napoleon's time.

5 euros to get in the small museum. All tours are guided and we had a very knowledgeable guide who spoke very good English. This museum is all about Josephine - Bonaparte's empress

Enjoyed our visit here. The guide seemed to know alot of the history BUT it would have been more enjoyable if maybe part of the tour or videos were in English too. We appreciate we are in France and understand and speak french as best we can but it’s all spoken so fast understanding is difficult.
Maybe just an English leaflet would be good, however, really good value for 4€ each

We were underwhelmed by this museum. The tour itself lasted about 20-30 minutes and was moderately interesting. The museum was focused on Napoleonic history and Josephine's life, and is primarily located in the downstairs of the plantation house (the upstairs is not accessible). The ruins of the sucrerie itself are located across the road and can only be viewed from the outside. Because of time constraints, we had to choose between this attraction and "La Savene des Esclaves." I wish we'd opted for the latter. This place is probably best suited for those especially interested in the life and times of Josephine (Napoleon's wife).

We arrived in the late afternoon and just caught the last guided tour of the day. The building is very small (as you'll appreciate in advance from the published info); and there is only a small range of exhibits. I recommend doing a little research in advance on the Empress (I simply googled her and read the Wiki entry), because the guide says quite a lot; but the detail is fascinating and bizarre. Thus the transcript of her first husband's final letter, for example (on display here), is all-the-more poignant for knowing in advance his circumstances and predicament. I'm not sure how all this is achievable, however, if you don't understand French. If you're in the area this visit is rewarding; but don't expect more than an hour's material here.

La Pagerie is worth the visit if you are a history buff, but don't expect to be visiting Josephine's home (just the foundation remains). The ruins of the sugar mill are interesting to see. The tour of the museum was, unfortunately, only available in French when we visited (so I had to do some interpreting!), but was very informative and detailed.
