Built in France in 1889, this library was shipped piece by piece to the island, where it stands today, a beautiful monument to slavery abolitionist Victor Schoelcher.

I love architecture and the story behind this building is interesting. If you are spending some time in Fort de France it is worth a visit. You don't need a lot of time.

5 stars for a library. We give that for it being a library. Freen entry and you walk around it. Yet, it's not a big attraction that is a must see. The five stars are only compared to other libraries. It's small however. The can...More

While this is a lovely building, it only took us a few minutes inside to walk around and admire the architecture. I would not make it your only destination during your day in Fort de France.

Only a few steps from the Musee Departemental de la Martinique across from the Parc la Savane, and with wonderful exterior detail. If anything, we preferred the exterior to the interior although both are worth seeing. Do go.

Classic exhibition architecture from the latter 19th C, stands out from the everyday, located by the park close to the seafront, well worth a short detour, screams of Paris.

Nice architecture. This building is one of the best in the City. It gives you a good reason to stop by if you cross Fort de France

Hi Chrisa, I presume there is a misunderstanding with the name of a beach Schoelcher and the library. Unfortunatelly I cannot help since I reviewed the Library.
