Me and my wife went to this beach in Vieques. It's really spectacular to see a beach with different sand color. It's not a popular beach in the area because of the distance from the main road. When you are coming from the road it's very hard to see the signs about the black beach. The entrance it's really scary... More

Black sand beach is beautiful. The sand is actually black and it is very heavy. It is a bit tricky walking into the water but once past the rocks (literally two steps worth) it is awesome!

We walked from our guest house and missed the path to the beach. It is hidden on the other side of the guard rail (stay to the right when you climb down to the path- the path is through the rain forest ) - but we finally found the beach and it was gorgeous and the black sand is so... More

The Playa Negra (Black Sand Beach) is located on the Southwest side of the Island. It is located on Highway 996 just past the intersection with Highway 201 coming from Esperanza. There is a yellow painted guardrail which is your first indicator then a sign has been erected past the entrance and then finally a parking area to your right.... More

We spent a few hours there. It's a nice beach, but be aware before you go that the black sand gets everywhere. It's different from the white sand beaches in other ways as well. You have to walk a ways down a path to get there. Our family likes to hike, so we enjoyed that. It's interesting to walk the... More

I went to this beach last day. It is like 15 minutes walking but well deserve it, this is like getting in other world, the way to the beach is breathless with all the vegetation. Once in the beach the rock formations, the cristal clear water, the black sand, everything was breath taking..... Will come back soon!!!

The best part of this beach is the trail getting their. After parking your car on the side of the road, you need to cross a ravine to get to the beach, which will take about 10-15 minutes. The ravine hosts its own microcosm with beautiful trees, insects and different types of crabs. We loved the hike. The beach is... More

Getting to this beach is a bit of a hike from the parking on the road so be prepared and take stuff easy to carry. Once there the beach is nice, but I do feel like we enjoyed some of the other Vieques beaches more. The black sand is a cool site, but it is not all black sand as... More

If you are going here you must be able to walk & climb. Sand is really black in spots so gets very hot. Make sure to wear sandals. Driving here is difficult. Beach is pretty small.

I was told to head here as it was a 'must see' on Vieques. I found it disappointed as the sand was not as black as expected but I was told later on that it can/does vary. It was still a nice beach for a swim and there was lots of little sand crabs running around which was cool.
