We attempted to go to this museum twice. Once on a Wednesday evening before closing and once on a Saturday afternoon. Both times, it was difficult to locate the museum and both times it was closed with no notice of when it would reopen. Honestly, we couldn't tell if it was ever going to be open with COVID.

Discovered while rambling around!
Jun. 2018 • Couples
We came across Museo del Mar quite by accident, one Mother's Day Sunday, making our way thru Old San Juan.
We had it all to ourselves, too!
If you're a cruiser, or are into boats, you should find it interesting.

The ocean around the island

This is a tiny museum so it doesn't take much time to see it. You will learn about the various countries and ships that have used the harbor in San Juan. It gives a bit of a different history to Puerto Rico. The collection of life rings is a memorable sight.

A MUST SEE IN OLD SAN JUAN
Jul. 2018 • Solo
Impressive collection, impeccably assembled and presented. I do not think I exaggerate if I say that this museum is the crown jewel of the thematic museums in Puerto Rico. Interesting for historians, archaeologists, sailors, military, tourists, students, pirates, dreamers, small children and anyone who is interested in knowing a little more about where we come from.

Lots of Cool Ship Models!

One of our stops on a tour of San Juan & really enjoyed the museum. Alexis was very informative & gave a very good presentation of the history of the San Juan as a port city. plenty of ship models to see. Found it cool to see the how cruise liners have changed over the years. They also have the largest collection of life preservers according to Guinness Book of Records. Would definitely included this as a must see!

Perfect start to a sailing vacation
Mar. 2017 • Couples
I was in Old San Juan for a couple of days with my fiance before heading out on a sailing trip to Culebra. We came upon this little pocket museum by accident. Glad we went in. Excellent ship models and artifacts, all tied together by Puerto Rico's marine history from the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria, through the US Navy vessel USS San Juan, right up to the sunk ship the SS El Faro. Worth an hour of your time, maybe more, if you are at all a fan of ships and you're in the area.

History at your fingertips.

I luckily went early Saturday morning in the off season so I had the place pretty much to myself. Carlos the manager was very happy to show me around and even told me about some of the battles that took place between the English and Spanish just yards away from the museum. Yes you can see some of the cannon balls and recovered old coins from when Puerto Rico was the last stop for a ship before it headed over to Europe. It's great for kids and admission price is very cheap. They do have a small amount of rare old coins for sale so that is a huge bonus.

Nice little museum with some nice minature boats.
Jul. 2016 • Family
This place is located in old San Juan and we just found it walking by. We went in to check it out and it was really nice. It has air conditioning as well. It has all kinds of replicas of boats from the old Spanish ships to the Titanic to Carnival Victory. Has the largest collection of life rings from different boats. You can do it all in under an hour. Very small, located all on one floor. My teenagers even found it to be interesting. It a great way to break up the tourist shopping.
