This was by far the WORST experience we have ever had renting a car. We weren't given the car that we reserved and already paid for and instead were given a much smaller compact car but were charged for a bigger vehicle. A few hours after having the car we found cockroaches all over our belongings in the car and immediately took it back to the company. We showed them pictures of the roaches in the car and the staff was extremely unprofessional and rude. We were told it wasn't a big deal and that they would clean the car out for us and nothing more could be done. We asked for a new car since we didn't feel comfortable continuing to use the same car and some sort of discount given there were ROACHES in our vehicle. They switched our car for the same small car but told us we would not be able to receive a discount or certain percentage off. We asked to speak to a manager and were told that that wasn't possible. I'm not sure what company thinks is normal to find cockroaches in your vehicle. We brought up the concern that the vehicle wasn't cleaned or sanitary and they did not care or think it was their problem.
Once we came back from our trip they charged us an extra $130 because they said we returned the car late. We rented the car from 8/5/21 to 8/8/21 (we flew out of San Juan on the 8th and have our tickets to prove this). We received an email saying we returned the car on the 13th and are being charged incorrectly which is not true and have proof of this.

Beautiful blue-green body of water that you can't miss if you spend any time at all in San Juan. For a close up of the bay there's a walk path at water level that goes from Castillo de Morro to the La Princesss Fountain. There's also a ferry boat ride that takes you from San Juan to an island which is very inexpensive

My wife and I arrived to Puerto Rico on June 28th . We waited in the airport for about 45 minutes until Europcar shuttle arrived. We originally booked the car through Expedia with the total of $185. When we arrived the the main office, one of the employees spent 20 minutes arguing with us that he had to charge us for another day(even though we booked it through Expedia and had everything included in our total of 7 days). That was only the beginning of problemes with had with Europcar Puerto Rico. On the day we were going home, we had to drop off the car in the airport parking lot since our flight was at 7 am and their office opens sometime after 8. When we arrived home, we received an e-mail stating that our car had scratches on the rear bumper. When we dropped off the car, there were no scratches on the rear bumper. We tried to explain that whatever happened in the garage or when the car was driven by one of their employees back to their main office is not our responsibility. They charged us $250 without discussing this issue with us. I had to write a dispute e-mail to the Europcar UK and still waiting to see what happens. On top of that, they charged us taxes twice. Both my wife and I have been traveling for a very long time and never had such a horrible experience with a car rental. If you decide to rent a car from Europcar Puerto Rico please take before/after pictures of your car so they do not blame you for the things you have not done(or just rent a car somewhere else to save you headache and money).

A last minute weekend trip to Puerto Rico! – Always a treat but sometimes a last minute trip means no rental cars available at a good price. Fortunately, I came across Europcar at Orbitz offering lower car rental rates. In fact, they were so low (about half the competition) that I was very skeptical. I read some of the online reviews and most of them were good, so I gave it a try.
Once I landed in San Juan, I called the rental car office for pickup instructions. The office agent told me they had run out of vehicles but not to worry because they would drive me to another car rental agency that would honor my car rental rate (oh no…I had a bad feeling about the whole thing) - 15 minutes later the shuttle arrived and the driver drove me to a different car rental agency – Leaseway of Puerto Rico, located right next to many of the other car rental agencies I have used before next to the airport.
Leaseway honored my car size and my rate without any problems. I got a brand new sporty 4 door Toyota Corolla with only 2K miles on it and with all the bells and whistles. Thanks to Europcar, I got to know Leaseway who I will be considering the next time I travel to beautiful Puerto Rico. If you want to look at their inventory and prices go to leasewaypr.com.

If you want a good experience with a rental car at a reasonable price in San Juan, use Europcar. The owner's name is Timothy Velez. We were connected with him via the Double Tree. He dropped us off at the airport in our rental car free of charge :) He is fluent in English and was very friendly. FYI, to rent a car in the Caribbean on the East side is very expensive!! A $100.00. Taxis are pricey: $50.00 to $25.00. Make arrangements ahead of time or find the best place to get a taxi instead of by the port. We were shocked at how expensive it is.

DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM E-Z OR ALLIED CAR RENTAL: Advice to anyone looking to rent a car in Puerto Rico: This is a copy of an email I sent to E-Z car rental and their (non) response. Also be aware that they rent under the guise of Allied Car Rental.
I recently rented a car from E-Z Car Rental at Aguadilla Airport as per norm. This time the A/C didn’t work properly but I didn’t call to switch cars as I only intended to stay for five days. Then I got stranded by Hurricane Maria. When I finally got a flight home out of San Juan Airport, the A/C problem took over and the car overheated outside of Bayamon about 20 miles from the airport. No problem, these things happen. What happened next was far from normal. I called the local agency at 787.726.7355 and told them I was on my way to the airport and had broken down, that I was in need of a tow and that otherwise I would miss my flight. A flight that was very hard to find in those days.
I was directed to call for a tow truck at 787.919.0328. Upon calling I got the message “We’re sorry but we are no longer receiving messages”. I called back the agent and told him of the message. He gave me the same number and said try again. “No”, I said, “you try”. I told him again of my situation and that I needed to get to the airport now! He said he would call me right back. After 20-30 minutes once the car cooled down I put in the only drinking water I had and turned the heat up to it’s highest level to draw the heat away from the engine.
So here I am, in bumper to bumper traffic, dripping sweat, hoping to get to a gas station which I eventually did. I got to the rental location and onto the airport.
But this is the problem: the agent never called me back and a tow truck never arrived. And, even though I attempted to return the rent a car to it’s point of origin at Aguadilla, no one was there to accept it. I had a hired driver to take me to SJU but was I supposed to abandon the car at BQN? I let the driver go after paying him and set out for San Juan. No agent was available to turn in the car, yet I get charged with a “Drop Off Service” fee.
A faulty vehicle, no agent available to receive the vehicle, and not even a return call on my urgent situation nor a tow truck when required.
Not only have I rented from E-Z Car Rental for years I also encourage my friends to do likewise. I am active on Face Book and belong to a number of groups that travel to Rincon/Mayaguez throughout the year. I would like to present my story for their edification but will wait to hear E-Z’s answer to this complaint.
I await your response.
Shaun Reen Conf# 238751 I am going to post to Face Book today unless I hear from your office. I sent this email to your attention two days ago but have yet to receive a response. Even a notice of receipt of my complaint would have been nice, but no, nothing. Anyone who has pride in their job would in some way have responded. But no one from your office seems to have such pride in their work.

Super cheap ( total of $150 for 5 days)
Very Nice Suzuki - very Clean with new tires
Super friendly staffs: they picked us up from city at the time that we asked for
Timothy, the manager, patiently guided us thru the city and marked the maps with best beaches, restaurants etc .
I rented cars all over the world and I think this is the best one .
Nxt time I'll be in PR, Ill directly call them and get a car

When planning our weeklong trip to Puerto RIco, I looked for a rental car. Went to rentalcar.com and put in the rental criteria. Along with all the "usual suspects", Europcar showed up. But at half the cost of the others. I immediately reserved the car. Somehow, Expedia was involved. So I called them to ask about Europcar and if there were any hidden charges not included in the "total cost" I was seeing. The agent I spoke to called Europcar in Puerto Rico and came back to me saying there were no hidden charges and that if I had a problem, I should call Expedia. I was cautiously reassured.
When we arrived at the airport in San Juan, we gathered out luggage and headed out the door to the island for pickup. I called Europcar to say we were waiting and were told the shuttle driver was there looking for us. After a very short wait, we found each other. The driver was very pleasant, loaded our luggage, and spoke English to us about our visit while he drove us to the office to get our car.
As we were going through the usual procedure to rent, I got engaged in conversation with a man standing behind the counter who was not involved in our rental process. He very enthusiastically gave us directions on a map to drive from there to our hotel in San Juan and then made up a list of restaurants and attractions we'd want to go to or see during our stay. He then gave us his business card with his personal cell number and told us to call "anytime" if we needed "anything". As it turned out, we went to several of the restaurants he recommended. And the attractions. His advice was spot on.
A week later we were trying to return the car to where we'd picked it up. I managed to get slightly lost. We called. Tim (the owner and the same guy mentioned above here) said not to move and he'd come get us. Once he found us, he said we could go directly back to the rental agency or we could go a slightly longer way and he'd take us to a place he'd been going to for many years. So we followed him and found ourselves at Panaderia Espana, a place we'd been to for breakfast five days earlier. (See my separate review) We ordered some sandwiches to go and Tim made us the gift of some quesolitos, cheese filled pastries. And then we all returned to the rental agency to conclude our rental. They then gave us a ride to the airport.
I have rented cars in many places. This was by far the best experience I've ever had doing it. Their customer service is outstanding. Not only do they want you to rent a car and have it hassle free, they want you to enjoy your time in Puerto Rico. And that is quite evident. I highly recommend Europcar in Puerto Rico.

Shame on EZ / Allied car rental for a classic Bait & Switch scam! It was horrible, and they thought I had no other options. I arrived at the San Juan Airport with my car reservation in hand. I found my way to the Shuttle Service, because I found out EZ Car Rental is off side. The shuttle showed up as Allied Car Rental and EZ Car rental. My family and I loaded up onto the shuttle and it took us about 10 minutes away.
Once I got there, they were VERY slow. Once I was helped, I quickly found out my $110 reservation for the week turned into a $300 bill. They were forcing me to buy their insurance because of the "promo rate." They also added another $10/day plus $10 set up for the toll roads, regardless of how you used the tolls.
I wasn't going to pay that much, so I asked how much it would be for a car without the "promo rate" so I didn't have to pay the insurance (I had it already). They made a show of finding me a similar $110 rate, but then added other fees so it came to $280.
This was a classic bait and switch, and you are already away from the airport in an unknown city. You feel trapped and like you have to take the deal. I declined, and said I would think about it (while I googled other reputable companies based out of the airport). I contacted Alamo, who said it would be $165 out the door for the week, bigger car.
While doing this, I found out the party we came here with from the airport was given similar treatment. They were catching a shuttle back to the airport. We jumped on with them and had a very seamless, no surprises experience with Alamo.

This is the worst place I have ever had to rent a car from. I will start by saying that this is the first time I travel to Puerto Rico. And the first experience I encounter is with this company. I arrived at 3:48am. According to Allied's services they have a bus which picks up the customers every half hour. My friend and I were not picked up until 4:45am. When we arrive to their location which off site of the airport(SJU) there were about 5 customers waiting on line and two agents working. Though there was a delayed in picking us up I was not upset I said ok things happen. Once we arrive we get on line and we are on line for 2hrs waiting to be help. The agent who took care of me was Pedro Ulloa. This person is very very slow at his job. He and the other agent lasted 3 and half hours with the customers prior to us. I did the pre-registration online which I thought was very convenient. I found it very strange that they did not allow me to make a payment online. I did not give it too much thought at the time and said ok. However, once I was at the location, I found out why they didnt let me pay online. They added a $250 for deposit which was not mentioned online, fine I understand that most places can charge a deposit fee which is returned to you once you return the car, but at least there is a mention of it which in this case there wasn't. Also, he stated that it was mandatory to get their insurance. We weren't given other options, which is usually the case with car companies. Also, they stated that if we wanted EZ pass we had to pay for it whether we used it or not and it was a daily charge of 8.95 whether we use it or not. What should have been a $380 transaction turned out to be almost a thousand dollars. It was a horrible experience. Too many res flags that make it very strange ans you just know they trying to make a commission because of the time. They advertise one thing and when you arrive in person something else is portrayed. I ended up cancelling my transaction and not renting there. I would NEVER recommend Allied Car and EZ Rental to anyone. They are very deceiving, and they false advertise their products and they are not upfront with their customers. And if you dont speak good enough Spanish to defend yourself, they let like 4 customers skip ahead of you if they just show up "to ask question" and look like they are multitasking but they are not; this place is just plain BAD. Pedro needs to be re-trained as well because his customer service skills are not good at all. He is very slow at what he does and takes way too long with a customer. They are not appreciative or mindful of the customers time. Dont waste your time coming to rent a car here. Just look at how much people are writing bad reviews about this place with poor communication , customer service skills
