More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts...

More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well.

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

we visited here last year also and enjoyed our time visiting and seeing the works of Puerto Rican artists. They have some excellent artists. We enjoyed the "Barber Shop" room with Puerto Rican artifacts and New York City artifacts with hub caps and many baseball player pictures decorating the walls. Very different but quite enjoyable. My wife ate at the... More

Couldn't find much literature to read about the real PR? Some time here will help you understand the island and its history. The staff enjoy engaging with visitors about the exhibits.

It was small, but very well done! We enjoyed the exhibit very much. We especially enjoyed the Caribbean artists exhibit!

This is a very well laid out gallery. The exhibits are grouped by theme and are very well expressed on large boards in each gallery. Sometimes art works were referenced but not displayed which was confounding. One of the docents referenced works in other rooms but some works were simply referred to with no picture to reference. I wished I'd... More

After walking past many times, I finally stopped to explore this museum, and was pleasantly surprised. I fell in step with a couple of ladies being guided by an absolutely delightful docent, and she made the exhibits relevant through her very keen observations. Exhibits ranged from the 17th century to the present, and the sculpture garden on the grounds is... More

Spent an afternoon at this museum which has many examples of Puertorrican artists from different eras. The outdoor gardens were also lovely. The staff were very friendly & helpful.

If you like art, this is one of the museums to visit... The other one is in Ponce and it is quite far away from San Juan. Anyway you need a taxi to get to the museum from San Juan Bay...

The museum is conveniently located close to Condado. The museum is clean and spacious. The arrangement of the exhibits is good, but the art work itself is very average. Maybe the exhibits were not to my taste (modern/abstract). The botanical garden in the backyard was pretty good.
