More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well.

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

Truly a delight and surprise to find a world class art museum in San Juan. If museum in historical hospital restored magically is any indication of a San Juan and turning the tide of urban decay to culture and beauty this is it.

The MAPR (Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico) is housed in what used to be a hospital. The architects who "converted" it into a museum and designed the additional structure did a great job. The building itself and the gardens are worth the visit but the art collection is also truly amazing.

A great museum in a beautiful remodeled building. Everybody is well informed and very helpful. Across the street there are several restaurants. It was our last day so we took a taxi to a restaurant across the street ,walked to the museum, checked our 2 carry on and later on they called a taxi to take us to the airport,

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is a beautiful museum in the art-filled Santurce neighborhood. It was practically empty when I visited, except for a tour group from a cruise ship. I wish more people visited. There is a very nice collection of Puerto Rican art from the 18th to the 21st centuries, including some very beautiful landscape paintings... More

I walked over from the friendly Hotel Iberia for a visit to an art museum. What I got was much more. It is an exploration of the the land, history, culture, music, and people of Puerto Rico through art. Very well presented and explained. I have never experienced so many staff who knew so much about their museum and were... More

Very disappointed that the children's metal play area was removed from Activarte area. Also had to abandon the sculpture park because of unpleasant loud music. The price of the museum is very reasonable and the permanent adult areas were good for me. Sadly, my children had a pretty horrible time.

The museum of art of Puerto Rico is a beautiful building with several floors of local art - paintings, mixed media, a few sculptures and videos. Not everything "spoke" to me; but there were a lot that did! Admission was free. They had a special exhibit called Re-encuentros: it is a wonderful exhibit. Not sure how long that is going... More

lots of old, dark Spanish religious paintings and one incredible room of large PreRaphaelite works. It's a quick visit but interesting.
