This is the second olderst church in the Americas. Currently is under reconstruction, and probably, you won't be able to go inside. But if you have the chance to go inside it's quite and experience. It's going back to the 1500's, 1600's!

If and when they ever get this gem of a church renovated it will be a treasure. Even in it's current state it can be enjoyed for its architectural design and construction.

This tiny edifice across from San José Plaza, at San Sebastian and Cristo streets, serves to remind that the population five centuries ago was miniscule, compared to today's teeming masses. This is not to be confused with San Juan Cathedral across from El Convento Hotel at Luna and Cristo streets. San José (Saint Joseph, in Spanish) is a small wooden... More

San José Church is the second oldest church in the Americas (the Cathedral at Santo Domingo, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC is the oldest) and the oldest one under the US flag. It is an early example of gothic architecture in the Americas. The 16th century church, including its frescoes, is being restored. Juan Ponce de León, first governor of Puerto Rico, was... More

Everything is hand carved and amazing work. I attend this church every week and they say Mass in English at 7:30. It's in a pleasent setting and there is parking.

It was a while back, but one of my fondest memories of Puerto Rico was this unique, charming, and welcoming Catholic church. We walked through the church when it was empty, and attended mass the Sunday morning before we left. A beautiful church and a wonderful faith community!

Under restoration for years. Really a shame. IF they ever get it done it will be wonderful, but no date on the horizon.
