The Reggae performance was delayed by over 2 hrs, mediocre food
Dec. 2018 • Friends
We wanted to watch a live Reggae performance. When we came here on Wed, the posters for the performance indicated start time as 9PM on Friday. We drove from Lucea and arrived here at 8:45PM, purchased the tickets ($25 per head), settled down with some wine on a table close to the stage. Everyone was smoking pot all around us. They changed the time to 10PM and even at 11PM, they hadn't started. I requested for refund and surprisingly they gave me full refund. We walked out of the place, having spent money on lousy wine and wasting 3 hours of our time!

Music and beer in the evenings
Sep. 2018 • Family
We wnt twice one night we were early and saw them setting up the stage while some really great reggae track were played on a great sound system. It was quiet but filling up with pretty much locals. Prices were ok but that night we had to go before the band played.
Second visit we arrived later and sat on the beach at a table had great bar tender service to our table. The music was good few too many covers in the first set but the 2nd guy pinky dread was cracking a real singer!!
The place was pretty packed with a lot of locals and loved seeing the local ladies dressed to the 9s!! We left about 1am I think it goes on for at least another hr. We all had a good night and is the only live music at this time of year on the beach

Inexpensive beach location
Mar. 2018
Roots Bamboo was as expected based on other reviews: basic but charming and clean, friendly environment and staff, right on the beach, with an attached bar/cafe and a music stage. It was also, again as mentioned elsewhere, loud, particularly at night. This was the case even when the resort wasn't hosting a music show, as other bars had shows on different nights. That said, if you want to be on the beach for a reasonable price, and if noise doesn't bother you (or you are a sound sleeper), this is a good place. Otherwise, look elsewhere. Two related suggestions: (1) for a fancy dinner experience up in the hills away from the bustle of Negril, go to Zimbali's Mountain Cooking Studio; and (2) use Rocky's Taxi and Tour Services for airport transport and day tours (e.g., Appleton Estate, YS Falls, etc.) - both are very highly recommended.

Great music venue but...

We arrived about 8pm for a meal and watch Aly C later. Service was quite slow but we were not in a hurry. Sound level is way too high when just playing tracks. Food was fine. The band came to life when Aly came on stage . Very good. It seems food is provided by a separate entity to the bar as we had separate bill. This is where I get annoyed! Why is the bill in $ US. Most tourists are Canadian. We are British. So the bill came to $46. But none of the restaurants quote the exchange rate. Our bill in Jamaican $7800!!!! According to my online exchange convertor the standard bank rate would give about $5800 so I expected $6000 or maybe $6500 at most. It would have been excellent to ask them to change some $US at that rate but obviously I didn't have any. It's very common now for restaurants here to quote in $US so as the $JA gets weaker tourists see no benefit but businesses make a killing.

Amazing venue for live music!
Feb. 2018
I had the pleasure of attending a few live shows including Beenie Man, and the venue is incredible. The stage is set close to the beach and there is an open concept dining area that lets you feel like everything is a true beach party. Imagine listening to live reggae but dancing in the sand with a drink in hand, hearing the waves right next to you. Beautiful vibes and easily one of my favourite places to go. The food is delicious and the music amazing! a MUST DO while in Negril.

We have found our home in Negril. Roots is so laid back and chill. Your neighbors become your fiends. The staff is really friendly, there's good food, good music, and good vibes. The beach is a great piece of the gorgeous Seven Mile beach. We loved Roots and I can not wait to go back!

Great for live music
Apr. 2017 • Couples
We visited Roots Bamboo a couple of times during our trip since we enjoy live music. We also had a few cocktails. We'd certainly go back although they get started a bit late. Due to weather, you may end up sitting on the beach or inside. We sat on the beach the first time and inside the second time. We did experience a blackout on our second visit that lasted so long that we left early. We did have the chance to dance a bit and enjoy the music though prior to the blackout.

nice place to hang out
Feb. 2015 • Family
This place looks like a little town with colorful tiny apts. if you desire to book them. Then you are just a walk away from the beach. There are not many beach chairs out there. The ones they have are slatted wood. There are tons of people selling things outside and a guy who is an amazing painter. Somewhere outside on the other side of the street is a place called, Sonya's Patties. It looks like an out of control Italian place. She makes amazing handmade patties of every sort. Great food. They have some juices in the place at the beach and other food. It's kind of expensive. We mostly roamed around outside the beach and looked for places to eat.

Nice Vibe
Mar. 2015 • Family
We stopped here on the way back from a day trip to Negril. We had a couple drinks on the beach and the people were very nice. Nice vibe of the place, made me think of much simpler times back in the 70's.
