- JoJoe CBasildon, United Kingdom30 contributionsSlightly disappointedI visited Nine Mile in 1999 ... back then the experience was smaller and a lot more authentic. 24 years later I am disappointed to say it felt so commercialised. I understand people need to make a living, but the pressure to buy/tip every few steps took away the enjoyment of the tour. The house and tomb hasn't changed and that part is still a humbling experience but I feel this tour has now been turned into a novelty act. Which is sad as it is thw opposite of Rasta and Bob's beliefs.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 October 2023
- MQB23 contributionsA money grabbing schemeSad to see the birth place of this legend turned into a money grabbing scheme by locals. Our tour guide was Captain Crazy and indeed he lived upto his name. Provided little to no useful information about the the legend we didn’t already know. He also made the worst jokes and laughed at them himself. He then insisted on taking money before he let us exit the tour. There was also a mediocre performance by a Marley tribute band you also have to tip. Also some con men outside the house selling marijuana and marijuana products as well as overpriced souvenirs. If you so much as say hi to anybody in the area, they will ask for money.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 January 2024
- tolulopeeHouston, Texas14 contributionsAmazing Experience! A must for Bob Marley enthusiasts to fully understand his legacy - in Jamaicans and in the world. Our Driver Jason was the best!! The roads to Nine Mile were hairy in some places, but we felt entirely safe with Jason driving! He was a treasure trove of information on Bob Marley, his legacy with Jamaicans then and now. The actual tour at Nine Mile was with Captain Crazy 😊. He was a really good guide with anecdotes about Bob Marley time there as a kid and adult. Learnt a lot and left with a more ch deeper understanding and love for the LEGENDVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 February 2024
- Heidi C2 contributionsNine Mile tourBooked with El Sol Vida Fun tours, was picked up from our hotel and our driver was fabulous, told us about Jamaica history and the local area and was such a lovely guy. The nine miles experience was also great with a friendly informative guide. Would recommend even if your not a Bob marley fan.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 February 2024

- Fred C17 contributionsFinally made itI wanted to visit since a teenager so this was an overwhelming experience for me. It's not cheap to travel from Montego Bay however we used a private taxi for 2 of us. I find the prices of tee-shirt, and other items in line with Jamaica. The guides are good and take time to explain Bob's life, and point out important details. The band playing was very good and enjoyable. If you are a fan of Bob Marley then go to visit.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 February 2024
- JMGlasgow, United Kingdom204 contributionsGet ready to "tip" and be intimidated.I am more interested to see where Bob Marley was born and now laid to rest. But spoilt by the way you're moved from one area to the next and expected to tip... let me explain. The road up is an hour of winding and pot holed road. You arrive where outside you are ushered by locals into a shack (and im being nice by calling a few bits of wood a shack), where you're offered a menu of marijuana. I understand the culture, but let's say it could be quite intimidating. No wonder why where your ment to be across the street has security guards and an iron gate! Then, you're taken into a bar area. Where the barman starts pushing the drinks on you. I mean pushing. Then. You're entertained by a Marley Band for a few songs. The basket for tips is pointed out to you. Up the hill to where Bob Marley lived and where he is laid to rest. But not without being prayed over in the chapel and where you're asked to tip the priest!! Not finished yet!! It was all very nice touring the small house and the Mausoleums of Bob Marley and his mother's. Back down the hill to a gate where on the back is a poster to tip your guide. Where the guide stands with his hand out! Blatant, in your face, intimidation for money that spoilt a pilgrimage for some.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 March 2024
- sarahb_uk1978Cambridge, United Kingdom35 contributionsCalm and beautiful place. What an amazing morning out. Tranquil and uplifting visit to the birth place and final resting place for Bob. The live band was lovely touch Fabulous knowledge of your guide. Downside... Few flights of stairs and a short but steep climb up to the buildings. On a hot day was kinda tiring. Tips. Take few dollars to tip the band and the guides.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 April 2024
- Navigate31223872652Dudley, United Kingdom26 contributionsWonderful experienceOn arrival we were ushered into a tiny shack where we were offered different ganja products if your not interested just say no thanks. Once threw the gates we waited in a bar area for a short time whilst waiting for a guide to be free we had crazy .there are a few steps to go up and down and a steep hill (zion) it was amazing to go in bob marleys grandparents house where he was born and then up to the home he shared with his mom from 6 months old .you sat and listened to a live band who played a few songs and a tip basket was on stage . Going in the building where bob marley is at rest was very emotional .crazy said his brother buried underneath Bob on the top. Crazy stood by gate for tips .i didnt feel intimidated and at all as i read previous reviews so was prepared. wear sensible shoes ground uneven in some areas . Few dollars for tips . Lighter for your smoke .it was a long day with the travelling from montego bay and back but worth it to see this placeVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 May 2024

We had THE best tour guide, Captain Crazy, who shared his immense knowledge of The Legend with that fabulous sense of humour! The tour round the house is great, you get a chance too to enjoy Bob’s meditation stone and a chance to pay your respects and give thanks to the man himself. A must for all Bob Marley fans.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 September 2024

NINE MILES
We booked our Nine Miles excursion with our travel agency Tui (Netherlands). The tour starts with a bumpy ride through the mountains of jamaica. It took us 1-1.5 hours from ocho rios to the final destination. We paid aroung $75/pp for the excursion (food included).
TOURGUIDES
The tourguide who picked us up at the hotel wasn’t that friendly. She led us to some guys who sold weed. $15 for 1 spliff (overpriced, in the museum it was only $5). They also offered us spacecake. Locals warned us about this because a lot of people get sick of it. So if you want to try it, be careful. We didn’t smoke so we friendly declined it, they were cool about it.
The Nine Miles tourguide was really cool. He told us some history about Bob and his family. Furthermore we saw their graves, Bob his old bed and much more. There was also a live band who played songs from the legend. Give them a tip if you don’t mind, it’s probably their only income.
Don’t forget that this is a tourist attraction. It is worth going there but the locals try to get as much money from you as they can. By playing music and by leading you in one of the many giftshops.
It is definitely worth going to Nine Miles, even if your not a Bob Marley fan!

What an amazing time we had!!
The road leading to the moselum is very rocky so drive slow.
When we arrived after a rather rocky journey, we were greeted by a private tour guide who showed us the main village where Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer grew up and went to school.
The village is a farming village and the people live off of the land, so you will be approached about buying their produce.
We saw the Wailer studio home and also visited a field of herbs😜
When we arrived back at the mosulem, we were fretted and taken to the bar area (after paying the entry fee), where I had the pleasure of 'sucking up' the infamous Bob Marley shot. Quite sweet with a silent kick. Jermaine the bartender is very welcoming and humourous. We had a great laugh which led into meeting our Tour Guide Benjamin, who was just as jovial and knew a vast amount about the home of Bob Marley family.
The live band were awesome, although the heavily US audience did not fully appreciate them.
All in all it is a worth time and please give generous tips, as the staff do a great job.

We booked our trip to Nine Miles through TUI and found the whole experience very interesting. As a big Bob Marley fan, it was great to see his birthplace and testing place. It was quite emotional having a band playing One Love as we left the mausoleum and walked down to the lower level.
Over all a great trip, but what I was not happy about was the guide - Robert - who at the end asked for tips ( this trip cost us $89, so we did tip but not a great deal) he laughed at wheat we gave him and said something about us being English.... not happy at all.
Overall good, but watch for the tips

What was Bob's childhood life like? How did he get started in music? How did he meet Peter and Bunny? These and related questions will NOT be answered on this tour! You will have numerous jokes about marijuana (or more likely, the same joke over and over). Overpriced merchandise everywhere. Five minutes of the hour tour are interesting: seeing his mausoleum and the two-room shack in which he was born. But it's a long, long (though scenic) and bumpy ride to get here. I regret wasting almost a full precious vacation day. Most people apparently just come to buy and smoke pot, not learn about Bob Marley. Bob would hate this place, this Babylon.

Dont even bother. It took hours to get here from Ocho Rios and involves a terrifying journey up very narrow bending mountain edge roads. Once there, there is a purpose built concrete building in the middle of a run down, sparse village, if you can even call it that. Bob did not live in the building, its a modern purpose built tourist faciity. You cant explore outside, there is nothing there but a crowd of locals desperate to sell you standard Bob Marley t shirts and bad quality weed and they follow you. Inside is a few pictures of Bob Marley and bored, miserable people trying to sell you tat every direction you turn. The sad, starving stray cats are also very upsetting to see. Instead go on the trip to Bob's actual house and studio in Hope Road Kingston. That was worth it and I would go again.

The tour guide was awesome and informative, very sweet and easy going. I loved the tour and I love bob Marley I got teary eyed at his resting place. Due to covid there were no musicians or dining however our guide made up for it by singing a few Marley songs while we walked around, he had a nice voice. We loved the whole experience even the people around the place wanting to sell things all was an experience for us loved it ❤

Nice view at the top of the hill where his resting place is. The guide did his best providing a narrative during the trip but it wasn’t appealing.
FYI - Beware of the folks outside of the gate selling edibles one of the men tried to sell me the cake, gummies and the ointment for $150 😂

Do not I repeat DO not allow your tour driver to talk you into going in to the shed outside before going in. They all work in a group, I am certain the tour guide told the scammers to leave when were close to leaving. It was a group of 6 of us and one bought weed, said it was garbage. I and another bought gummies that had no flavor, no the, just gelatin. The state I live in I can get 200mg gummies for $5.00 no lie but the $40 for the gummies, I only did it to show support but to be scammed is pretty crappy. The tour company was Turissmo but I bet they all operate the same. I then complained to the tour lady in the van and she acted like she called and spoke to the guy, yeah!! ok!!. We were on our way back at 1pm but none of the sketchy guys were outside, like 10 or more but they close at 5pm. Be aware, and warned ahead of time. The tour is honestly a money grab, such a shame. Captain Crazy is well known but I do not think he knows where he is as high as he is, but not too high to not forget to ask for a tip. I get it, the area in Jamaica is very poor but to price gauge you and turn a sacred place to a cheesy money grab is sad!!

I cannot rate this trip enough, we went as a family of 4, we booked through TUI, the whole day was amazing, we went to Dunns River falls first ( which I will review separately)lunch in a beachside Jamaican restaurant and then onto 9 miles. Go onto the nine miles tour with an open mind. Roads going upto the attraction are a bit hairy in places, but it’s interesting looking through the window and taking in-the scenery. On arrival you are greeted by a number of guys who are keen to sell you there wears, remember they are very poor, but they are not pushy either, you can purchase Maraujana in all forms, and everyone is smoking it around you plus you can purchase souvenir stuff. Our guide was brilliant, really funny and Knowledgeable about Bob Marley, you get to see his birthplace and resting place, it feels very spiritual up there and you can understand why he loved to write songs from here. Actual tour takes about an hour. We did not know a lot about Marley before we went, but it was still really good. I have just downloaded a book now on his life as it left me wanting to find out more. We also went with a good group of people who started of as strangers but we left as friends all a little high 🤣🤣Go with an open mind and have a fab day, you won’t regret it🇯🇲💕💕

It is a must see, just because Bob Marley is still so important for Jamaica and it is good to remember him and this place.
After a challenging drive we got to the place, but we couldn't find the entry. A man walked up to us in our car and helped us park together with some local boys. He offered to do the garden tour and the mausoleum tour, but somehow we didn't feel he was a 'official' guide. After a walk we found the entry. A huge blue closed gate. Knock on it and it will open. After the gate there is plenty of parking space.
Then you can buy a ticket, and get a guide assigned who will explain the house where he was born, show the mausoleum and much more. Impressive!. Also a group plays some music for you. Our guide had the nickname 'Barky" Nice and friendly and proud of his heritage. So the right guy if you would understand his dialect. As we are not native English, some sentences (especally at the end) were hard to follow. But we got the vibe, which you shouldn''t miss for 30 USD per person, excluding tips for the guide, band and the man/boys outside guarding your car 😉

Hi, my wife and I recienly visited Nine Miles, it was truly amazing and uplifting! My question is: There is a tree there that only grows 1 fruit per season or year, I was told it only grows there by the tour guide. Does anyone know the name of the tree?

Are little kids appropriate to be in this tour? We were planning on bringing our 6 y/o?
Written 2 October 2017
We brought our 7 year old. It was fine for her. But be aware that pot is definitely smoked on the tour and it is indeed talked about. We saw it as a good opportunity to talk to our child about "medicine" and drugs and circumstances that are safe and appropriate to consume such things.
Our 7 year old is a huge fan of Bob Marley's music (they even sing it in the choir at school) so she very much enjoyed seeing where he lived and paying her respected at his tomb.
