Description:

The Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve is a private protected area...

The Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve is a private protected area owned and operated by the PUNTACANA Ecological Foundation. Consisting of lowland subtropical forest, the reserve covers 1,500 acres of land dedicated to conservation, scientific research, and recreation. The Ecological Reserve is a forest reserve with twelve freshwater lagoons, five of which visitors can swim in. Historians discovered that the Taíno Indians, the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the island, referred to the lagoons as “eyes” because of their distinctive shape. For this reason, the Ecological Park and Reserve was named “Ojos Indígenas” or “Indigenous Eyes.”The Ecological Park consists of numerous exhibits describing the cultural and natural history of the island. Visitors can visit a petting zoo with many domesticated animals common in the Dominican Republic since colonial times, a sugarcane exhibit, an iguana habitat and many other attractions.

The resort staff hadn't heard of this park. That is telling! They only knew of overpriced, very commercial excursions. Our cab cost $40 from Bavaro Barcelo Palace to this park. We did not opt for a guide, but followed the beautiful wooded path ourselves. There is a snack bar and bathroom near the office where one pays to enter. We... More

This was an amazing experience walking through shady woods opening to sunny fresh water lagoons. We went all the way to a secluded Caribbean beach with an abandoned hotel, then returned to our shuttle via another gorgeous path.

This place is truly a hidden gem. It's a private protected area consisting of lowland subtropical forest with 12 fresh water lakes, some of which you can swim in. The water is so refreshing and clear. You can see the fish and turtles swimming around. The forest is gorgeous. Everything is so green and fresh. We saw many birds and... More

The ATV was great fun and the course wound around the preserve. We went swimming in one of the lagoons - cold but lovely.

We have been here several times and we always comeback, great place for a hot and sunny day, great springs, and especially awesome job reserving this area.

No one at our hotel seem to know of this attraction and the cab driver almost dropped us off in the wrong spot. Once we got there, though, we were surrounded by beautiful forestry and quaint lagoons. Although there were probably about 30 other people in the park at the same time, no more than 10 were ever swimming in... More

The water holes are otherworldly and sparkly in the sunlight. You can see straight to the bottom. Fish and sometimes turtles can be seen swimming.

Hiked straight to the beach. Was unreal. Speechless. Lagoons were breathtaking too. Such a fun time and made for a memorable experience. Worth a golf cart ride over from the Westin. Bug weren't bad at all and scenery was worth the hike. Must in PC!

I have been to both the Hoyo Azul and Indigenous Eyes and I must say contrary to popular opinion I am a much bigger fan of Indigenous Eyes than of Hoyo Azul. Though the water at Hoyo Azul is a lot more blue and therefore impressive, there were SO MANY PEOPLE. By the time we got there, the water was... More

So good for a day away from typical beach. Free with stay at most resorts. I recommend bringing sneakers for nature hike and sandals if u decided to go in water. We did the whole loop + a little swimming in about 90 mins. Really good site seeing. Definitely a lot of mosquitos so I recommend bug spray
