Pleasant, But Not a lot to See.
Feb. 2020
I was with a tour group and one of the staff gave us a guided tour and talk. The staff were all pleasant. Since this museum was about DR culture and history, it did not interest me much.

Food for the Brain

i'm somewhat of a nerd when it comes to having my brain fed when on vacation. I really like trivia and history, and this visit really fed me. It's a small but very interesting and informative museum dedicated to their national hero, General Luperon. It contained many artifacts such as pictures, clothing, weapons, tools, and informative articles about this great leader. There is a great, short, informative film about his efforts to separate this great land from Spain. Only stayed about 1 - 1 1/2 hours which was plenty of time. Our guide at the museum was very knowledgeable and informative. Would like to visit again.

A bit of history

Interesting bit of history of the Dominican Republic, the guide that was telling us the history was a little hard to understand. It was a good stop on the tour though the city.

Our tour guide was great! She was very knowledgeable. Also, I found the film they showed us to be even more helpful to learn more about the country as well.

Worth your time!

This was a well done museum tour walk thru with guide (for free- but tip at the end). Our guide was very nice and spoke well in English. She had only been working there a few months but seemed interested in what she was teaching us. The exhbits are small and it is a quick tour but completely important when traveling in the DR to understand the important of General Luperon. It was clean, air conditioned, and inexpensive. Do it!

Historical Site

This was one of several stops that we made during our city tour of Puerto Plata during an excursion from Carnival ship.

General Luperon’s house which is now a museum contains a lot of historical artifacts including the wardrobes that he and his family wore, his bed, and tools used during war.

The house is kept in immaculate condition and the tour guides were very friendly and eligible. Part of the tour includes a historical movie explaining the life of the general.

It is also very interesting to see the exterior with the unique doors and windows.

I tried to post photos different than already posted.

For history buffs

If you are a history buff, you will enjoy this cultural adventure. "General Gregorio Luperon was "provisional president from 1879 to 1890" of Puerto Plata. There are many artifacts to look at in the facility and it is an event hall as well.

Interesting Historical Stop
May 2017 • Couples
To learn about the love that the people of the Dominican Republic have for their former leader, General Luperon, stop into his former home, now museum, of their past leader. The museum holds artifacts, films, costumes, and a great local history right there inside. We learned the great deeds that their leader did for the country to help its people, how he was their liberator, and how he is still so loved and revered today. The tour was interesting and well worth participating in to learn of this part of the country's culture..
