- carolynl654100 contributionsGood to see while thereIf you’re in the city, this pink alley is neat to see. Absolutely everything is pink. Is it worth going to see only this? No. But if doing a little taxi city tour this is fun to see and take pictures. The city itself is a bit rough and I wouldn’t walk anywhere there. Stay with a taxi driver who won’t leave you. Very crowded roads with lots of traffic jams. When we were there, there was a lady walking around with a monkey you can hold. If in town it’s good to see once, but we checked the block and don’t need to go again.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 February 2024

- Relax783277Raleigh, North Carolina1 contributionThoughts on our excursion in Puerto PlataWe were on Carnival’s Mardi Gras which docks in Amber Cove. Amber Cove had several shops but we waited until after our excursion to shop. The shops were less crowd at that time. Through Carnival, we booked the Mountain View excursion which took us up the mountain to the Momumento Natural Loma Isabel de Torres and Christ the Redemer statute. I would have liked to walk through the lovely natural area. There were low clouds at Christ the Redeemer statute so it disappeared and then reappeared. Because of the cloud we missed the view down to the ocean. We loved the Umbrella Street in Puerto Plat-a and the drive around the town.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 13 August 2024

Very close to Umbrella street in old town Puerto Plata, but much more interesting.
Whole street is painted in intensive pink color, making it a great photo op.

This pedestrian lane painted in bright intense pink is located near Central Park and is the second most visited sight in Puerto Plata after the Park. It is neatly decorated with plants a bench and a few information posts and is a great photo op.
The site pays homage to Bianca Franceschini who emigrated from Italy with her husband Isidoro Rainieri to Puerto Plata in 1898 and built in that spot the Hotel Europa. This hotel catered to travelers and developed an outstanding cuisine and wine cellar that soon became the best in all of the Dominican Republic.
But Bianca's reputation grew after her husband died in 1914 and she continued to run the hotel and raise and educate their 9 children (the oldest was 17 when the father died).
Dona Bianca or Blanca died in 1946 and the hotel was then sold.

This beautiful street is in memory of Dona Blanca who is remembered for the many things she accomplished after the death of her husband. She continued to run the hotel she and her husband started, raise their nine children and did a lot of charitable work. As you stroll along this beautiful street (actually an alley) someone will take numerous pictures for you. Please give that person a tip for making this walk fun and enjoy able.

This was my first trip to Puerto Plata and my only second time in the Dominican Republic and it was great. I found some of the little attraction the most charming and this was one of those. Really very nice

If you love pink, this is definitely the place for you to visit, rich in history, plaques on wall in Spanish and English. Quaint and small place to walk through.

It’s a nice little alleyway. Great for pictures. It has a nice restaurant halfway thru the alley. Did not eat there, but the food looked good!

A very pretty and fun place to take some photos. Hidden in a side street, but stands out so much once you find it. Rich in history and a beautiful place to stop quickly.

I was surprised as to how short the ally/street is. My guide gave me a lot of info about it. I liked it. Cute little street and lucky we were the only ship in the port so it wasn’t crowded.
