Historically wonderful

If you are a history buff you'll really enjoy this. The fort is a wonderful piece of history. It's not just Dominican, but also Spanish and French.

Another good area to visit. Very picturesque and views over the port area were great. Area was well maintained and surprisingly enough quite litter free.

If you wish to learn about the history of the country, specifically about how the Dominican Republic came to be independent from Haiti, then this is the place to visit. While I've personally only visited during part of a city tour, the fort allows for individuals and groups of all sizes to come and learn about the part the fort... More

We visited here as part of our Outback Adventure Tour. The Fort is beautiful with so much history. There is an audio self guided tour. Most of the headsets only work I intermittently so I was disappointed that I missed some of the information but the views were beautiful. There are many people outside selling things however they are respectful... More

We enjoyed this excursion. It was very well done as each participant was given head phones to hear the tour as they went along. We went with DSRR bus rental which arranged everything for us. The sellers outside are a little aggressive. Was disappointed in the water pollution of the harbour below.

I have never had the opportunity to visit anything this old. I was in awe. The Government clearly has a hand in restoring an maintaining such a treasure. I enjoyed the visit immensely.

This part of the Dominican Republic played a very important part of independence of the Island. You have an opportunity to visit the fort and place yourself back in history. There are vendors on the right as you arrive closer and as you look to you left you an see the ocean blue. Be careful don't need to rush into... More

A really well preserved piece of history. It gives you an idea of the types of defences that were needed to keep the invaders away. If you are a history buff and like Spanish Artillery, this is the place for you. It's on the coast of beautiful Puerto Plata at the end of the picturesque Malecon.
