This is an interesting hangout with all kinds of artists, performers, a cigar store, a few restaurants, and historic buildings all around. It was one of my favorite things about my visit to the Dominican Republic, and it is free.

The most important park in Santo Domingo. Statue of Christopher Columbus and Catedral. Lot of people hanging here, musicians, restaurants. Old ficus trees make shadow, so it is nice to take a break and start peoplewatching...

Must see if you are in Santo Domingo, go see where Cristobal Colon lived with his family as head of the new world for the Spanish Crown.

This place is nice to take a break from sightseeing. Just sit down and watch the people or drink something in one of the restaurants. I can really recommend the Cafe El Conde or the Jalao.

With Colon statue in the center and the cathedral behind and also the old houses around is a place to go and drink a coffee (if it's not too hot ...)

You sit there and watch all the happenings around. The restaurants/cafes, the people, the cathedral and the birds. You can watch here bands of musicians playing and singing Spanish songs for some pennies they expect. I myself took the service of a shoe shiner...Great atmosphere.
