this was an awesome hike. there were many changes in scenery and the final view of the boiling lake was breathtaking. The time to make this hike is accurate. Have comfortable hiking shoes and be ready for an adventure.

Let's be straight about it: this is an arduous hike because of the steep ascents (and descents) and the length. There's a little bit of rock scrambling where you definitely would not want to miss a step. Your quads are going to burn, you're going to get wet and muddy, and it's probably going to be rainy, cold and windy... More

First boiling lake I have seen, as well as first jump off a cliff into the Titou Gorge. I would recommend a guide if not familiar with the area and would not attempt if raining hard. It will make for a very difficult day. We were lucky enough to have no rain and a mostly cloudy day. Exhausting but fantastic....

The walk can be tough going in places, but is well worth the effort. The boiling lake itself is very impressive, though of course the steam itself can impede the view. To reach the lake you have to pass through the Valley of Desolation, which can be quite eerie. The area has very wet weather and we got soaked on... More

Our guided hike to Boiling Lake was a true highlight of our vacation to Dominica! If it's your first time hiking to Boiling Lake, a certified guide is recommended. We were fortunate to be guided by Chadi, who not only safely led us through the Valley of Desolation, but also provided us with interesting flora and cultural information. Additionally, he... More

We started at 6 from Portsmouth with Winston our driver and JC our guide, 7 hikers and two children under ten. We are all sailors so quite fit. As previous reviewers have said it is a grueling hike, Best read before you go in Doyles Guide. It involves a long hike mostly over a laid wooden walkway. The fist part... More

Hours long uphill hike for 10 min site. If you are into physical fitness, nature, and hikes, I highly highly suggest it. If not, do not go, you will be miserable for 3 days due to soreness. Pack a dry outfit. You will get muddy and wet. Gets very cold at the top.

This was the highlight of our Dominica visit. The hike is tough (thousands of steps to go up and down) and some rugged and slippery scrambles (not bad to go up but tough to go down). It took us six hours round trip as a group of 4 adults in our sixties with a guide. Wonderful views across the forested... More

As a 55-60 yr old couple, we decided to complete this hike. Our advice would be to take a guide; you may be able to find your way without one, but would miss out on all the priceless local knowledge, such as the names of the surrounding peaks, where the water is safe to drink and the wildlife nearby. We... More
