My husband and I booked a catamaran trip -the boat tour staff was great and the island does have beautiful water BUT a few things we didn’t like :
1. the trip to the island was VERY rough. The staff said it is choppy water every day just some days are worse than others. 90%of the people got sea sick with some actually throwing up and it is and 1.5 HOUR ride. I wish the staff would have warned us before booking the tour.
2. Snorkeling was poor. We saw one turtle while we were on the boat-none while snorkeling. My husband saw 2-3 nice fishes
Most of the other people on the tour said there are nicer snorkeling spots elsewhere.

Let me start by saying that I believe this island trip appeals to specific types of travelers. I'm simply not one of them.
So if you are someone who likes to spend a lot of time in the water snorkeling, looking for stuff to explore and don't care about tanning, picture perfect beaches or unlimited drinks my review might be for you.
Klein Curaçao was recommended as a must-go place for snorkeling in pretty much every list I've seen but compared to the rest of Curaçao, it was very barren. Visibility is so so, the turtles there only come for the food given by the boats and there is hardly anything to see except sand and a fish here and there. There is a bit of interesting reef near the point of the island but it is a long swim with strong current and lots of rocks. I don't recommend it unless you are a strong swimmer with fins.
The tour operator we went with was good and they took great care of us! We opted for one of the smaller ones (Adventure Tours Curaçao) taking a speedboat which cut the travel time in half compared to the others. It can be a rough boat trip so take your meds and have a big breakfast. The guides shared a lot of information about Curaçao, even taking a bit of a detour on the way back to show us more of the island and its history. If I was just reviewing them, this would be a 5 star review!
But yeah, if you are a snorkeling enthusiast who prefers to stay in the shade and doesn't care for unlimited drinks, I recommend skipping Klein Curaçao and take a drive around the island to the remote beaches around Westpunt or Director's Bay.

We took a popular catamaran (don’t want to name them but this applies to all operators as they all take the same path) with two young children aged 3 and 6. We were told that it might be a little rough but not terrible and that lots of people go with kids. The ride was almost two hours of pure hell - you are basically fighting tall waves the whole way. By the end of it, over 90% of the passengers had vomited and everyone was miserable. The crew was great at taking care of everyone but they should have never let us take kids on that trip. The beach was nice once we got there but certainly not worth what we went through. The way back was also rough but not as bad and slightly quicker. I don’t recommend it to anyone, and especially not to families with young children!!!!

this site was great as you were able to snorkel and see sea turtles up close. there is a man there who feeds and calls the turtles who makes the stop hard to handle as he is noisy and disruptive. People need to respect the animals as well and observe and not touch as it is dangerous to the animal. The turtles were a joy to observe. Area very small and crowded.

Went to Klein Curacao on day trip with Irie Tours (Bounty Adventures). Took about 1.5 hours to reach the island by catamaran. Island features beautiful beaches with white sand, an abandoned lighthouse, and two ship wrecks (well, one ship and one small boat) on the East side of the island. Light house was ~15 minute walk from the beach and shipwrecks were additional ~15. Walk over early in the day as it gets hotter in the afternoons. Island has no permanent human residents but the biggest hermit crab population we have ever encountered. We spent some time snorkeling near the beach. Saw a sea turtle, many fish, and the head of a dead barracuda (sea turtle and fish were helping themselves). No services available on island (seriously, none), so make sure to come with a day tour or bring everything you need for the day.

This trip was amazing the water was calm and the catamaran was very comfortable and the crew was fabulous. When we got to he island and went ashore to do snorkeling and some sightseeing. To be aware that the island is very flat and consists of lava rock. There was a couple ship wrecks there and a lighthouse to explore. While we were there we swam with sea turtles they hung around for about 2 hrs giving everyone lots of time to swim with them.
This was a fantastic excursion well worth the money

While it was fun riding on a catamaran for two hours to visit less than a mile in length uninhabited island for approximately 2 hours of swimming and walking around the shore and a delish lunch on the boat. The waves were a bit rough and the island was windy. The beaches in north Curacao will serve you well with stunning swims in crystal clear water.

This was one of my favorite beaches. Starting with the view of crystal clear water with white sand. Having that to look at all day is just great. Another reason we kept coming back to this beach is because this was one of the beaches that the locals frequent the most. Which means you get to hear their music smell their food as the bbq and interaction was great. Being among the locals was one of our favorite things about the experience.

Get ready for amazingly turquoise waters and a long white sandy beach. There are a few public beach huts, but besides that its a flat island, with no trees/shade. There is a lighthouse that is totally worth the short walk and there are some shipwrecks at the other side of the island.
Be sure to bring your sunscreen, snorkeling gear and good vibes!

I finally had a chance to visit Klein Curaçao! We took at catamaran over to the island which is a longer trip but really nice to sail on the open sea. The day was beautiful and didn't start out too hot. When you get to the island the beach is beautiful white sand and the water is a beautiful aquamarine. It was a little murky near the shore and not much to see snorkeling but that quickly changes if you swim out a few minutes. Then you get to see a good variety of fish and my friend saw a turtle (i missed it!). When you first get to the island it is the best time to go see the lighthouse and the shipwreck before it gets too hot. After that is perfect for relaxing in the shade, or a nice swim or snorkel. My biggest advice is that no amount of sunscreen is too much. Be generous!!!! It was a lovely way to spend a day.

Is there still a stop along the way at a little sandbank in the middle of the ocean? The last time I went the operator stopped there for a bit. It was magical.

What was the food like? Im reading just like a food cart/burgers, but I saw another pic with buffet?
Written 18 May 2020
There is a buffet, but it is located in a private club. Otherwise, food options are very limited. Many of tour companies that offer day trips to the island provide lunch on the boat.

So do you have to take a boat over? How long is that boat ride and how much?
Written 4 May 2020
Hi, chairs where $5USD without umbrellas and yes there are bathrooms. It’s a beautiful beach you will love it! One of my favorites!

Written 27 November 2017
Caso vc queira ir, indico o barco Mermeide. E o maior é com melhor estrutura, p pegar no hotel eles cobram 118 dólares. Sem transporte acho q 108. Os outro barcos são catamarãs peq e o mar é mto agitado, além de balançar é perigoso.

Has anyone went on this excursion while on a cruise? Looks like most tour boats leave very early where as my cruise this coming June will only be arriving at 8am. Thought to ask here before contacting them directly. Thanks!
Written 7 January 2017
There are also local people who own boats who go back and forth. Maybe a little bit more expensive then a excursion, but if you really want to experience it then I would give it a go.

I was wondering about the weather on Curacao last week? The daily weather reports show rain every day. It it really raining all day? Also did you snorkel recently and where? Name best shore sites. HH
Written 2 December 2016
Hi Hudson, I was there in June and the weather forecast was also every day rain. But we haven't had rain at all. Little Curaçao is really nice. For us it was the best snorkel site (we saw turtles), but any place in Curaçao is fine. Well good luck!

The boat ride to and from Klein Curacao seems pretty rough. Question. Is there any time of the year when the ride is not so choppy? Or is it year round always the same? Reason I ask is I am trying to visit Curacao in early January.

Fomos esta semana para lá e o mar estava ótimo. Temos um filho de 2 anos que dormiu o caminho todo. Foi bem tranquilo e ninguém passou mal. Vale muito a pena ir.
