We witnessed the impressive Changing of the Guards at the Marti Mausoleum, which has become a tribute to Fidel too.The simple rock where he is buried contrasts heavily with the grandeur of the memorials of well known Cuban families like Bacardi, Cespedes etc...

We came here as part of a tour and got a chance to see where Fidel is buried. It was a bit unorganized with the locals pushing in making it longer to line up to line up to see or take a picture. You have to be very quick to keep the traffic of people moving otherwise you'll be there... More

Great place for history buffs. Fidel Castro died the month prior to our visit. Surprising that his grave/final resting place was covered by a large, simple brown rock with only "Fidel" carved into it. Quite moving to see, vs. the elaborate tombs of other famous Cubans. We arrived just before 1300 = 1 PM, when the changing of the guard... More

The cemetery is a fitting tribute to the many famous Cubans buried here. It is one of the most beautifully maintained cemeteries I have ever seen. We visited as part of a tour group so received a wonderful history lesson from our guide. It was interesting to hear how revered by the Cubans was Fidel Castro and other historical figures... More

This large cemetery is home to the graves of many famous Cubans, including Jose Marti and some of the Barcardi family. It also know is the shrine to Fidel Castro. Thousands of Cubans and tourists queue up daily to pay respects to their former leader. Some lay flowers others take selfies!! in front of the giant gravestone. Their is a... More

Well worth a visit to get a sense of how revered Fidel was. The changing of the guard is worth a watch though nothing like Buckingham Palace, more akin to Lenin's Tomb. Bacardi family also buried here and Marti's mausoleum has some interesting features.

Aside from the imposing statuary in the cemetery, we were able to visit Jose Marti's tomb where many of his pithy words of wisdom are carved in stone. We watched the changing of the guard and then waited, with many, many other people, to visit Fidel's memorial. It was very moving to see the number of people that came from... More

This cemetery has the graves of everybody who was anybody in Santiago de Cuba, from the Bacardi family to Fidel and Jose Marti. Spectacular memorials carved from marble. Beautifully maintained, too.

Despite the scorching Santiago de Cuba's sun (please, carry umbrellas and put on tons of sunscreen). Santa Ifigena cemetery is worth a short visit. Fidel Castro's tomb is open for visits and there's also the military and ceremonial guard shift every hour.

We did this on a ship's tour and had a wonderful guide who gave us interesting stories about each famous person. Fidel's grave is close to the entrance, easily accessible and heavily guarded so it's really just a photo stop for most tourists. Marble walkways while lovely could be slippery.
