The castle has been kept in good conditions (as it can be for such an old building) and the views form there are absolutely stunning! The weather was gorgeous when I went which helped me to get amazing pictures.

The view is breathtaking and the castle itself is impressive in terms of scale, history, preservation, and structure. Wear your walking shoes as there are many steps that wind in and out of the castle, and make sure to bring a hat and sunscreen to avoid getting burnt from the Carribean sun.

The ideal spot to take pictures of the lovely bay of Santiago.Tell the stories of notorious pirates to your kids in the museum. Don't forget to pose at the balcony of the romantic loggia where señoras were waiting for the return of their heroes! A truly merited UNESCO World Heritage spot!

We hired a taxi for this trip. Spectacular setting. Disappointed that one section of the castle was closed. It should have had a sign indicating the reason. My spouse is a geocacher, so finding the object was a bonus!

Part of the Thomas cook package from Guardalavaca, this was for me the highlight of the trip. Perched high above the entrance to Santiago Bay the castle gives panoramic views of the city and surrounding Sierra Maestra mountains. There is a small museum inside and a pirate history displays, plus dungeons a chapel with a stunning small choir and gift... More

Not a lot of note inside the fort and all displays are in Spanish only. Worth a visit purely for the views over The Caribbean and towards the City. you have to pay to photos inside the fort, put your camera in your pocket and take photos from the tops instead of inside and save 5 CUC as there isn't... When we visited the fort, there was an acapella group (4 women) singing in the chapel. The acoustics were just right for their voices and it was a lovely addition to our tour. The chapel can fit only a few visitors, but the group can be heard throughout the fort.

This is a huge fort in fairly good shape. It was wonderful to wander throughout and even visit dungeons and cells. All views were spectacular.

Enjoyed our walk around the cliff top fort which is in very good condition. There is a restaurant and several souvenir stands on the approach to the fort. Beautiful views of the Caribbean from the walls.

Stunning views, interesting history and well-maintained with lots of camera-worthy points of interest. I 'collect' UNESCO heritage sites and this one is outstanding. ** 5 CUC for a camera permit. It has a rocky pathway to the inside of the castle with some ramps but lots of stairs.
