I have been to Camaguey 3 times. The first time I visited the Plaza del Carmen my mother, a native of Camaguey, and her eighties, told me so much about it. The church, which is still functioning, is the only church in Camaguey with 2...More

Lots of galleries with excellent artists is located here. Also the bronze-statues outside is worse seeing. The church is nice outside, but closed when we visited the square. Bring your photo camera, there are gorgeous motivs

This small plaza was apparently restored a few years ago. Now the highlight for me was the several lifestyle bronze sculptures of people sitting around doing normal activities. The sculptress was Marta Jimenez, whose studio is just off the plaza and well worth the visit.

This is a beautiful plaza with very nice sculptures. The area is clean and colorful. Be sure to walk around to see the statues.

Certainly within walking distance if staying near the center of the old city. The sculptures in the square in front of the cathedral make the visit worth the walk. The cathedral makes a nice backdrop. Thanks for reading.

Plaza del Carmen offers everything a tourist can wish for: a beautiful Baroque church surrounded by well-kept houses, no cars (pedestrian area), few tourists, good public art, a great art gallery and a couple of restaurants -my favourite being El Ovejito, excellent and moderately priced
