Walking through Cathedral Square we came across this monument to Antonio Gades who was a Spanish Flamenco dancer and choreographer. It is so lifelike that initially I thought it was a street entertainer, but on closer examination I realised my mistake.Well worth a look.

I was surprised to see that beautiful monument in Havana in Plaza Cathedral. Antonio Gades was famous flamenco dancer and choreographer for trilogy by Carlos Saura: Carmen, El Amor de Brujo and Bodas de Sangre, which I got to see back in 80' and fall...More

One of the nice things about discovering art in Cuba, is that when you get home you want to research and learn more. This was a beautiful piece in an even more beautiful setting.

Plaza Cathedral has a bronze sculpture of Antonio Gades, who is the recognised as his generation's greatest male spanish dancer. He was a Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer, who helped popularize the art on the international stage.

I love all of the public sculpture in Havana, and this is no exception. They are all over the place and add to the character and charm of one of my favorite cities. All of these, including this one, are very well-done.

It is important that there is a statue of dancing as it is so important to preserve the history of Cuban dance. The building is also interesting as it is their historic post office. The letter drop is the mouth of another statue.

Very unusual to see a 'statue' leaning against a building. It is situated in one of Havana's must-visit squares but, especially during darkness or when the square is packed with tourists, you might fail to realize that it is not a real person, so look...More

This is a life-size bronze statue to Antonio Gades, a famous Spanish flamenco dancer (apparently favoured by Fidel Castro) situated in the Plaza de la Cathedral. It has great detail. There is also a plaque.
