Five of us visited Havana for four days. Several weeks prior to leaving, I connected with a tour guide I found through Trip Advisor, Geikas of Nosotros Cubaneamos. She recommended starting our visit with a walking tour of Old Havana. Seeing it with a local like Geikas is the only way to go. She is a doctor by profession, so... More

You kind of get more used to this place the longer you stay. It's good if you can quickly get proficient with your 'no gracias' as you are going to be bombarded with offers for anything from a taxi ride in an American car to half price 'genuine' cigars. All the touting and begging gets a bit much after a... More

People say Cuba is stuck in 1959, but that's just not true. TV, cell phones, laptops and internet are available - you just have to work a little harder to make them work. Walking around the streets - watch out for crumbling sidewalks and be prepared for crumbling buildings. They are working to reconstruct their city but there is much... More

Just got back from our 5 day trip to Havana. I can soundly say, our expectations were too high. After reading all the reviews and blogs on Havana, we had very high expectations for the place. Their was very little dancing in the streets and music. The city is extremely dirty anywhere outside the capitol area. The food was mediocre,... More

It's hard to put to words just what Old Havana has to offer. It's truly the best part of the city and you'll get to engage with some locals. Old Havana is an experience like no other in Cuba! or elsewhere for that matter.

Lots to see, stayed in a Casa was a great experience. Nice crafts and locals not pulling at you like Mexico and Dominican to buy. You need a couple of days to see it all. Definitely get a guide for the first day to explain the history.

I love Havana, and Old Havana is one of my favorite parts. There is a bitter sweet atmosphere here due to the amazing architecture and the crumbling buildings. There has been a lot of repairs since we first came and it simply gets better and better. Lots f real history here.

It's beautiful, well maintained, clean. But Old Havana is a tourist destination 100% and isn't Cuba or even Havana. Worth the visit but got a few blocks further afield and check out the contrast. That being said, cool restaurants, bars and attractions in the area are worth checking out.

I love old towns, love the juxtaposition of old against new, but Havana is something altogether different. Here it is old, the Spanish influenced, amazing architecture and still standing and the derelict the pre and post-revolutionary buildings that are abandoned, derelict and decrepit. Sad to see such potential in rack and ruin.

Old Havana has so much character. I just loved walking around looking at the buildings and wandering aimlessly stumbling across tourist spots. Although many buildings are deteriorating there are still many that are beautiful. Take a day and wander!
