We stayed in casa costa salvaje in la bajada where the main road from Pinar meets the ocean, 11 km from Maria la gorda. This casa was one of the nicest of a handful of otherwise dreary accommodations. Get to the visitor centre by 9 am to book a mandatory guide for hiking to cueva la perla (recommended) or to... More

The hotel is expensive and it's quite bad for being a resort. There are only a couple of restaurants, including a buffet; the buffet one is not very good, while the other one usually runs out of options quickly. Scuba is just OK. The sites are good, although nothing super impressive. If you add that the way it's organized is... More

I hitchhiked to La Bajada and stay at the small fish village. Then rented a bike and biked 14kms single way to Maria la Gorda for one day Pros: 1. not too touristy at all, but if you stay at the resort, your only companions are family travelers/scuba divers, not a good young backpacker vibe 2. water is crystal clear... There are far better places to go for a beach experience. Here sitting on the terrace or on the beach you are plagued by cats and dogs looking for food - gets worse as tourists feed them! There is a strong undertow on the beach which shelves quickly and is rough on the feet to get in. There are no... More

Maria La Gorda is a long drive and there's nothing special there other than the diving and snorkeling. The rooms were clean and spaceous but neither the buffet nor the a la carte restaurant were very good

If you are coming to Scuba dive that is great. If you are coming to take the kids to a water park, play tennis or play golf....these amenities do not exist. This is a place for adult divers. I never saw a kid. There are horses roaming the compound so there are flies. The flies are partial to the fresh... More

I stayed there for the weekend because I was working in the area. The dives were great and the instructor very funny. The place is very natural and you will enjoy it if you like nature. Be careful of the mosquitos during the evening, there are tons of them !

The beach is really beautiful, not the one where the hotel is located, if you walk 20 min on the left side you will find and awesome beach. Anyway, don't be there by sunset, mosquitos will kill you (hundreds of them...) The hotel itself is really bad: old, bad food (there is ni other choice near) and the internet connection... More

Our cruise ship anchored off the beach and guest were ferried to the beach. Once there a Cuban band greeted us and the beach was accessible for swimming and relaxing. The setting was beautiful and the beach was sandy. However, entry into the water was difficult due to the rocks/coral which made it very uncomfortable both getting in and out... More
