Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Basically there is no public access to the beach. You cannot purchase drinks and there are signs separating the private and public land. We managed to get on to the beach, 6 of us including a baby and a child under 5 via a hotel, who reluctantly let us through. The beach is indeed one of the most stunning in Barbados however the elitist nature of the people was very off putting, an American woman was too delighted to tell me that the bars were exclusively for the use of the Sandy Lane home owners. When we walked to the end there was no way off. My daughter walked through the sea along the edge of the coast and was fortunate enough to find a local fisherman and his boat who literally rescued us from the beach. I have been going to Barbados since 1983, I would normally stay on the south coast. This experience has really been disappointing and it definitely does not sit well with me that sections of the beach are essentially being made private by failing to provide proper public access to all of Barbados' beaches. If I lived here I would be campaigning for improved public access to all of the beaches. This is a stain on the reputation of Barbados. If you do make it onto this beach bring your own provisions and exit strategy.

Urgent action must be taken to control the numerous Jet Skis operating around the West and South coasts. Benefitting few but proving an annoyance and a danger to many, this form of water transport appears to be uncontrolled and unsupervised.
From being a noise nuisance to sunbathers on the beach to a concern and a real danger to swimmers, the Jet Ski drivers go where they please and are often speeding in the shallow waters where bathers like to be. As a swimmer, I am constantly looking over my shoulder for on-coming Jet Skis and this week I came very close to be run down by one. Only my frantic waving averted an accident. Demonstrations such as circles and “donuts” by drivers looking for customers are particularly dangerous since they ride around in ever increasing circles at high speed and could not possibly spot a swimmer in their vicinity.
Solutions can be discussed but specific passenger boarding points along the beach is one proposal so that the Jet Skis don’t come unannounced to the shoreline. Another solution is an exclusion zone so that they are not allowed to operate within 200 metres of the shore and a knots speed limit needs to be imposed since most of the drivers pull back the throttle from the get-go of picking up a passenger. Fines, spot checks, withdrawing of licenses, confiscation of Jet Skis and inviting video evidence from the public should all be considered as punitive measures.
I’m sorry to have to forecast that in my view there’s a serious accident waiting to happen with so many uncontrolled Jet Skis being operated so close to the shore line and when it happens, not if but when, people will be seriously hurt or worse.

It used to be possible to walk from Sandy Lane beach to as far as the Coral Reef Club to the north, and to the far end of Paynes Bay to the south - a good 2 mile walk.
However, due to tourist developments too close to the shore, this part of the coastline is dotted with sections of impassable rocks where the sand has disappeared, leaving Sandy Lane beach isolated and difficult to reach for the public - however, the beach at Sandy Lane itself is unaffected, golden sand gently descending into the warm Caribbean sea, with the swimming area in the centre of the bay rock-free and sandy-bottomed. An absolute delight to visit for pic-nicking and swimming, and watching the sunset (Paynes Bay itself is also a delight, but can get crowded, and does not quite reach the quality of Sandy Lane beach).
This isolation is convenient for the exclusive hotel overlooking Sandy Lane beach, which arrogantly monopolises the sand with its large quantity of pink and blue umbrellas and sun loungers taking up prime positions - transforming it if you like into a sort-of Benidorm for the rich elite - despite this being a public beach and public swimming area (the cordoned-off area is to protect swimmers from boats, it is not a private swimming area for the hotel, despite the appearance).
However, don't be put off by the arrogance, the hotel paraphernalia and the hotel swimming platforms, this beach and swimming are open to all and worth a visit to spend the day, a morning, the afternoon, the sunset (but you will be lucky if the hotel allows you in to buy a drink or a sundowner, bring your own, or use their facilities).
There are plenty of places to reach the beach in Paynes Bay and access Sandy Lane beach from there, but the closest to Sandy Lane beach is the public access from the road (which includes a public freshwater shower) at the North end of Paynes Bay next to the One Sandy Lane residence block.
Go for it - when visiting Barbados, a visit to Sandy Lane beach is a must!

Our favourite beach. You get to this by way of 3 or 4 entrances. The main one by the small car parking area has a fallen tree at the end so if the tide is in you can walk along the road for about a hundred yards, over a tiny wall (step over) and just walk straight ahead to the beach. There is another small entrance a few hundred yards after that.
There is the best sunbed man ever here and the beds are comfy. $US20 for 2 beds and a brolly. you need this as the sun is very fierce.
The sea is wonderful. Again, there is a shelf so be carful getting in but once in it's sandy on the bottom, warm, calm and just wonderful. They have parts cordoned off so there is a safe place to swim and the jet skis and boats can't enter.
There is a nice beach bar with prices at the going rate and food cooked to order.
There is a bus stop just by the entrance so easy to get to from anywhere.
You just lay on this beach and think 'wow - this is paradise'. We always went by Rhianna and Simon Cowell's gaff which is 1 Sandy Lane as that was near the cordoned off part and not far from the beach bar. There are no private beaches in Barbados so go wherever you like but this is one of the best.

We stumbled upon Sandy Lane Beach via Rhianna's mansion. We had no idea it was her place, saw it from the road, saw a path next to it leading to water. We said, :what the hell...why not" I am so glad we did as we were the only tourists on the beach at that time. The water was so blue and calm and the perfect location to start to watch the sun set. Nobody harassing us to buy items for sale as with many of the other beaches. It was pure relaxation!

With the unusual weather experienced on the island in February the depth of the beach behind No.1 Sandy Lane has disappeared. There was a 4 to 6 foot drop of sand from the bottom step of Sandy Lane. Fewer sun beds along the beach, with many rip tides and under currents to keep you out of the sea. We walked along the beach and many of the other hotels and apartments which come out on to the beach the footings of the walls were exposed.

Danke
