Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very nice little museum to visit. Very friendly staff and an excellent collection of art. The main museums has rotating exhibits but if you really want a treat ask to see the archives featuring works by Winslow Homer, Georgia O'Keeffe, Yousuf Karsh and many others. As a bonus, their small and unassuming cafe serves exceptional food.

A wonderful experience. Bermuda art is featured fro. A variety of painters. Pleasantly surprised to see Jack Bush for example. Nice cafe for lunch or a snack. If you are into art this is a worthwhile experience.

Masterworks is located in the botanical gardens so it's a chance to enjoy landscape and horticulture in the same visit. There's a good coffee shop and gift shop also. The body shop has attractive locally produced work. The main draw though is the really interesting work exhibited in the gallery. I've now visited three times and enjoyed the different works on display in the various exhibitions I've seen. When I was last there in March this year , there was really interesting portraiture on the mezzanine of the big ground floor gallery. Bermuda faces, various artists over a 100 year time period I think. I was very drawn to this, wondering about the people depicted. On the ground floor then, they had some sea/boat related works which were interesting. Also at one end of the gallery, a bench with a bronze of mark twain, so I sat with him for a minute or two. Outside there's a commemorative of John Lennon 'double fantasy' and a story about why that's there. Easy to get to- bus to the hospital and there's a signed footpath through to the botanical gardens. Spend the morning there, gallery, gardens and have a bite in the cafe. It's lovely, all in all.

We visited Bermuda serendipitously. Compensated by a travel agent for an erroneous reservation, we trotted off the beaten path for North American tourists, which usually ends somewhere in Mexico or the southern Caribbean. Thus, we landed in Bermuda, and for nine mind-blowing days we lived life savouring nature, history, art, and the local cuisine; but most of all we relished our meetings with the Bermudans. One such memorable individual, Tom Butterfield of the enthralling Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, gave us a present of enormous magnitude both literally and figuratively – the book Masterworks at 25, which we proudly hauled all day in Hamilton ultimately bringing it home in Canada without a scratch. Thank you Tom! In a few words, many want to see the world, few make it; but of those who don’t make, the ones that have tasted Bermuda have tasted it all! A must...

Curator, Tom Butterfield, was so gracious and knowledgeable. Though not on display, we were able to view the Homer and O'Keeffe pieces! Such a treat!

Masterworks is the creative vision and life's work of Tom Butterfield and a team of art-lovers who work with him. Queen Elizabeth II even made Tom a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his work. He can often be seen around the museum - look for the bright colored glasses.
It's a Bermuda-sized space that's centrally located and is walkable from town with a good pair of shoes. It's a 12 minute (0.6 mile) walk to/from the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, which is itself about 5-10 minutes walk outside Hamilton.
The museum enjoys strong support from the local community and hence has been able to acquire an impressive collection of art with a Bermuda connection, only a tiny bit of which is shown at any one time. Bermuda has a strong art scene among both professional and amateur artists, driven in part by a desire among a large number of art patrons to have local art in their homes, which is celebrated every two years with the Charman Prize.
For other art on the island, the Green family, owners of the Hamilton Princess, have quietly dotted their hotel with art from their private collection including Warhol, Ai WeiWei, and Yayoi Kusama.
Check the Masterworks website or facebook page for the current offerings and notices of closure to change exhibits.

Thank you so much for your attention to so many details and noticing just how passionate Tom is about Masterworks.
There is one correction and that is we are not close to BIOS but Bermuda Underwater Institute (BUEI).

We have been visiting Bermuda for nearly 20 years and we did not know about this hidden gem until friends recently raved about the visit. We were a group of six and requested a tour. Elise Outerbridge, the Curator, happily showed us around. Elise has been there from the beginning 25 years ago and had so much fascinating tales to share! We all loved it! The works they have collected over the years are absolutely beautiful. Even the non art lovers in our group loved the experience. Homers Cafe, attached to the museum is a lovely place for coffee or lunch and great food. We came home and have since joined as members and we look forward to visiting each time we are in Bermuda.

Stop by to see how artists interpreted the Bermuda experience. This is a wonderful building. See how O'Keefe makes even tree trunks sensuous and how someone like Winslow Homer found his lighter side in Bermuda.

Beautiful artwork, some by very famous artists (Wyeth, Winslow, O'Keefe), with the theme of Bermuda. There were many beautiful pieces that gave me new insights and new perspectives on Bermuda. Thoroughly enjoyed all of it!

What are the hours and days the Museum are open?
I was at the Botanical Gardens in June of 2015 and really could not find the Museum. I did not see the Building and I thought that the Signs were not good. Then someone said that the Museum was closed. I believe I was at the Botanical Gardens on a Monday.

Bermuda Masterworks
Hamilton, Bermuda
Hi there!
I'm so sorry that you weren't able to find us. We totally agree that it's a bit tough and frustrating navigating the Botanical Gardens, especially for those who have never been there, however few months ago, better signage was put up to direct people to our museum. Also, if you see anyone in the garden they will gladly point you out to us. We are open Monday through Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm, unless its a holiday or we are transitioning between exhibits, which will always be announced on our social media. Again, we apologize for the hassle and hope you will come to see us next time you're in Bermuda!
Sincerely,
Masterworks Staff
