About
Located in the heart of the Town, the World Heritage Centre (operated by The St. George's Foundation) is a key orientation and resource point for visitors and students of all ages. In our Theatre Room you can sit back and enjoy a short film "A Stroll through St. George's" and then view the mural artwork by Emile A. Verpilleux in our upstairs gallery. On our Main floor we have interactive educational exhibits which highlight "The Age of Discovery, Bermuda's historic links to Jamestown, the wreck of the "Sea Venture" and the story of Bermuda's first forts. The ground floor also houses Second-Hand Rose, our charity shop with a great selection of gently-used second-hand "treasures"!

Charming and historical city worth a visit. We included this UNESCO World Heritage site in a recent visit to Bermuda and were happy we did. It is the oldest town on the island and there Are lovely old buildings and streets to explore. We came by private taxi, but the town can be reached by ferry and bus.

St George has elements of history dating to 1609 yet its hard to grasp it. Bermuda was visited by accident when a ship was in a storm and was incredibly fortunate to beach on a reef off Gates Bay Bermuda. Some stayed and were called settlers.
And thats how a country of 61 000 in 2023 is born, i guess.
There is an element of silliness that sometimes hard to ignore.

We were happen to be there in the Christmas walk about event. All neighborhood prepares or offers snacks on the street and you can visit the historical houses (people still living in) also eating and drink offers. It was a very enjoyable event and we were surprised how people were welcoming. This little town reflects the history of Bermuda and its past regarding slavery. I think I would not have been impressed if I visited on a regular day but rather such event added even more spirit. This place is overall a must to see in the island. The transport is easy by bus and taxi costs 40 dollars from Hamilton.

Do a map recon before you arrive to fully understand the relationship between the various forts and St. Georges. I thought they would be co-located, but they are spread out a bit. It’s about a mile walk from St. George (proper…King’s Square area) to Fort St. Catherine. Along the way, you can pass by the Unfinished Cathedral and Tobacco Bay, but you are walking along the road for much of it. They are all worth a visit. Tips: We visited on a Monday and many of the shops were closed…plan accordingly. The ferry from Hamilton doesn’t start running to St. George until 1 April. The bus will take you about 50 minutes.

Very pretty old town with narrow streets, pastel painted shops and houses. Have lunch along the waterside and visit the unfinished church and St Peters, the oldest church in Bermuda, dating back to 1620. We stayed in Southampton and found it difficult to get to this end of the island by public transport, so ended up getting a taxi at $50 each way. It took half a hour, the bus, which is not direct is a good hour and a half!

Nice place to visit but a bit contrived and clearly aimed at the tourist trade. Liked the replica of the ship built by the first settlers. Would have liked a bus to St Catherine's fort, but had to walk there which was a bit hot. Would also have liked to come by boat direct from Hamilton but had to go via Dockyard with a long wait there.

I love bermuda, although if you don't like heat, avoid JULY, AUGUST..St. George is the eastern city ,a world heritage site.Do not miss it.It is important
to history buffs, has a museum, a church with very old cemetary. Important mayors, and seamen must be buried there.
The streets are narrow, the main street by the wharf has shops, restaurants and a bus stop with vital service to Hamilton(the capital). You can have a beer or a delicious pizza at the Wharf restaurant on the water.
Further afield is a beach called Tobacco Bay, small, turquoise waters surround this gem. It's quite a walk, this time in the heat ,chose not to walk.
There's an old fort Catherine. All in all, a wonderful place to visit.

I wish we stopped here first after getting off the ferry. $5 admission is well worth the overview and history. Some exhibits already showing wear and broken when we went. Again- film was worth it. Also great way for tourists to support preservation efforts in St. George. Vintage shop Second Hand Rose is free but skip it- overpriced items you find at any North American consignment shop.

Bermuda is closely connected to the start of western Europe's colonization of North America and the Centre gives a good review of Bermuda's history since the first British shipwreck on the islands.

The Crystal Caves are 10 minutes away from St. George. You can take any of the buses that are heading to Hamilton and ask the bus driver to drop you off by the Crystal Caves.
