Good but pricey
Jul. 2021 • Friends
We did not check out the museum but was offered to sit and try out the little cafe.
To our disappointment the items on the menu were more Mexican and American than local. You would expect for it to promote Aruban finger food at least right. We had a fries supreme and a chicken quesadilla which taste good but very pricey.

Small local museum

The museum is housed in a beautiful old building. The entrance is through a cafe.

It took a while to locate the museum guide. When he was located we were shown around and heard stories about the families who donated artifacts to the museum.

It showcases the diversity of San Nicolas and Aruba in general. There are numerous artifacts from all over the world. Most impressive was the music box from the 19th century that was played by turning a crank. It was very loud.

They also have the original Lago sign from the refinery. He explained the name came from the lake in Venezuela where the oil came from.

One modern artifact worth mentioning is the new elevator that operates differently from most others. Very smooth quiet ride.

San Nicolas is unique and worth a visit!
Jun. 2019 • Family
Did not actually visit the museum as it was closed when we visited but we walked around the town and thoroughly enjoyed the original architecture and lovely Catholic church as the many murals on the walls in downtown. This is a unique town and clearly different from everything else we saw in Aruba after 2 weeks of traveling all over the island

A glimpse of the past

Wow San Nicholas was the heart of Aruba before tourism in Oranjestad. It was a treat to see so many things and photos of people who created commerce and art in San Nicholas. It is a small museum that shows the heart of the Aruban people.

A Small Museum with a heart

The San Nicolas Community Museum tells the story of the people of San Nicolas which was the center of Aruba before the degvelopment of tourism in Oranjestad. It is housed in what was a store with living quarters above. The original tiles are on the floor and the artfully staged exhibits with original artifacts share the history of the store and The residents of the community. You can feel the history within the walls. The experience was enhanced by the tour guides and the commitment of the guides to sharing the history and spirit of Aruba.

If you don't go in, you've missed a great time warp!

We were in San Nicolas early after taking the bus from Oranjestad. (4.50 Floran) The curator met us as we entered and let us know right away the cost was $5US. That was cheap. We immediately went back in time from the barber chairs, wardrobe, old suitcases, 2 rooms full of old artifacts from Aruba with 3 other rooms not yet set up but items there which we were amazed to see. The Curator also explained everything to us. Don't miss this!

They were not finished but the exhibits were nice to see, the few that were available to look at. I would go back when everything is finished and opened.

a nice little find

As we were getting off the public bus in San Nicolas, someone suggested the community Museum right accross the street from the bus station. We deceided to look it over before we sought out "Charley's Bar" for lunch. The small free two room collection was great. The rooms contained memoribelia from the " old days" of Aruba and was explained by Roy who seemed to know many of the subjects. It's not the MET but it was fun
