Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This area was definitely worth the trip from Oranjestad. The area itself is desolate, so beware that you may be on your own for awhile if you lock your keys in your car or need a bathroom, etc. The area itself just had new masonry done which allows patrons to access the steps easier. There is an area across the street to light a candle near a small statue.

The Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes was built in 1958 on the 100 year anniversary of the Blessed Virgin Mary appearing to Bernadette Soubirous near Lourdes, France. It is located in Seroe Preto and we arrived here on a bus tour. There is a Grotto on both sides of the highway. There is room to park on the side of the highway, but be very cautious crossing the street! Definitely recommend a visit especially if you are Catholic.

The Basilica church has English Masses daily at 9:00 AM.
Be sure to visit all three churches - the Basilica (on top) the Crypt (with a relic of St. Bernadette) and on the bottom The Church of the Rosary.

If you come to Aruba for the beaches, this is probably not the place for you. But if you want to see something offbeat and off the beaten track, then it is worth a few minutes extra while on the south end of the island. Very much dedicated to Catholicism and the Virgin Mary. A quiet place for reflection. I even know a local psychologist who goes here to do therapy with his clients because it is so quiet and has few visitors. Enjoy!

It was my first pilgrimage to the Grotto of Lourdes. A fervent wish since childhood as most catholic kids hear about this great story of Young Saint Bernadette Soubirous. I got my wish and within a week was Blessed with visiting twice. Arriving by TGV train from Paris the view to behold of this mountain area was breathtaking. One knows that you are set foot in a Holy site. The Grotto is simple and impressive. The Church building has three chapels/churches. The view from the second level at night is a must to watch the candlelight procession. It is impressive to see such fervor. There are so many places to visit like the huge underground Cathedral, the Chapel of Adoration, go to confession in several languages, attend Mass, take home Miraculous water (not Holy Water because it is not Blessed by a priest but the source was shown to St Bernadette by the Blessed Virgin Mary. Do go to the baths. You will be surprised and moved, water does not stay ‘wet’ on your body as you will discover. It is a spiritual experience like no other. There is great food to have and the information center can advise you well. Do take the short sightseeing train ride through the town. The bookstore at the shrine is well stocked in many languages and for all ages. A visit to cherish for a lifetime or to return to this very special shrine. You must light a candle 🕯

Lourdes Grotto
Seroe Preto, San Nicolas, Aruba
Visited here on 2 August 2013. We were looking for it and thought we made a wrong turn but manage to stumble on it. We were glad we did. To us it was beautiful and it was worth it. The Lourdes Grotto (Grot di Lourdes is located and built in Seroe Preto (black hill), on the southeast coast near San Nicolas. On the opposite side of the road across from the Lourdes Grotto (commemoration of the Virgin Mary) is another shrine built into the rocks also. In 1958 the Grot di Lourdes was created under the direction of a priest called Erkamp; the Virgin Mary statue was placed in the grotto and blessed by Monsieur Holterman. You can bring a candle if you like to leave it lit. For those of us who enjoy our religion or religious life this was a nice site to visit. You will have to climb steps up. But this was worth it to us.

A stop at the Grotto is a "must" sometime during our yearly visits to the island. Because it is off-the-beaten-path, I believe over the years we have approached it from every via possible. However, we enjoy making the effort to appreciate the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary that has made this spot possible. Never leave without a little prayer of thanks.

I had visited Ste Lourdes in France and when I learned about this grotto it was a must to visit. It was a bit difficult to find as it’s on the road but we were glad we did stop there. A beautiful setting and well maintained grotto.

Believer or not, this religious place is a must. Our Lady of Sero Preto is right on top of the grotto inspiring peace, fulfilling hopes and pouring faith to all who come to visit her. Explore the surroundings and enjoy more than a pair of goats, iguanas nibbling on local plants and even a donkey family walking through.
Enjoy San Nicolas and don't miss a visit to our Lady of Sero Preto.
