- linkakk232 contributionsBeautiful SpotWe love Pigeon Point Beach. Beautiful spot with sailboats in the water, various shady areas to get out of the sun, and the beach is flanked by 2 restaurants - one fancy and the other relaxed. A nice mix of locals and visitors. Gorgeous setting, but no bathroom facilities.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 December 2023
- retireeVancouverVancouver, Canada1,828 contributionsTake 2 towels - one to sit on; one to dry off. Good beach that isn't crowdedAfter our short visit to Nelson's Dockyard, our ship excursion included a one hour visit for a swim in Pigeon Point Beach on a Saturday afternoon. The beach had a mix of locals and other cruise passengers who most likely had bought an excursion to Nelson's Dockyard and the beach like us. It's not a beach used by cruisers due to the distance from the port so the beach area isn't crowded. There is a nice, clean washroom across from the parking lot. This facility has sinks and toilets, but no showers. A lady takes your entrance money to use the facilities. We had a cruise ship voucher so paying for this use was not an issue. There is shade from small trees at the beach, but no loungers/chairs for rent from the small restaurant at the beach near the parking lot. The white sand is soft and extends into the water. It is a clean beach with no sea weed in the water. There is minimal surf as the water gently laps onto the beach. The drop off from shore into the water is gradual - just right for swimmers who like to touch the bottom while paddling around, but also deep enough further on for swimmers who dislike shallower water. There also is a good stretch of sand to walk along as the tide laps gently at the shoreline. The beach is in the vicinity of a harbour so beachgoers can occasionally see ships passing by the shore. We spent about 45 minutes in the water with my hubby and me taking turns being in the water while one of us sat on the towel beside our belongings. It was enough time to feel refreshed and to have good memories of this beach should we buy another excursion to Nelson's Dockyard. Take 2 towels along pp - one to sit on and one to dry off.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 February 2024
- Jonathan N10 contributionsGreat chilled beach with harbour viewsCurrently in Antigua and have travelled around within our 3 weeks here. This beach is glorious, set in a very natural surroundings with great views of the harbour and hills in the distance. Also a more local friendly beach compared to the tourist artificial feel of the likes of dickenson bay or jolly harbour that we have also visited on our day trips out. The water is calm and the beach is never too busy at all, couple of bar options if needed at both ends of the beach, one cheap and one more expensive. You won't be disappointed if you visit I promise !Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 August 2024

Considering the number of lovely beaches on the island, from commercial and groomed with umbrellas etc. to secluded, natural and romantic, I cannot understand why this comes out so highly rated here on T.A. It's pretty enough but it's a very narrow strip.
Also we managed to find here the most expensive beach bar beers on the island - $6.50 US (yes that's US not EC) for a bottle of Carib!!!

If you go fairly early (before 9 am) you almost have this lovely sandy beach to yourselves. We were only a 10 minute walk away so went nearly every day but if you not in this corner of Antigua it probably would be worth travelling here. As they tell us - there are 365 beaches. A huge 4 mast clipper was here one day - they brought masses of stuff onto the beach for a beach BBQ followed by a boat full of tourists - but it was interesting to watch. There isn't much else here except Catherines Cafe but check your change.

Terrible nothing but shacks beach wasn’t that great. I suggest you go to sugar Beach. We walked on to the sandals resort. They wanted $200 per person for a day pass for beach chairs. What a scam.

I’m not sure why this is one of the top 10 beaches as it is really a narrow strip of sand from the car park and along the shore line.
It has trees on the beach which is ok for hanging your bags etc on and maybe a bit of shade, but as there are no umbrellas or beds to buy for the day you will need a towel or your own chair and shade.
The sea is a beautiful colour, but with boats also there I was weary of staying in the water for too long due to diesel etc
The beach had not been cleaned and had dog ends, empty food containers, chicken bones and other debris
Certainly not a beach to spend the day at. We stayed about an hour
Due to it being a narrow strip of sand you are sitting very near to other people when it’s busy

We visited as two couples snd were impressed with the whole setup. This is the busiest beach we have visited, yet we were the only apparent tourists. Lots of Antiguan families were enjoying the calm waters and special views. There is good snorkelling to the right of the beach, and areas are cordoned off fir safe swimming. Sun beds are available, $10 US, but no umbrellas.

There are not many places you can get to without a car in Antigua, so it was a pleasant day when we could walk from our hotel in English Harbour up a steep hill and down onto the beach at Pigeon Point. Its 1km from Admirals Hotel and about a 10 minute walk. Th beach is lovely, the water clear with some shaded spots and designated bbq/ picnic areas as well. Plenty of parking for people who drive. There are 2 restaurants - one other end of the beach... trendy "Catherines" high end , poseurs paradise with a band on a Saturday day time which really kicks off or a simple beach bar selling cocktails and jerk chicken, two very different options. You should not miss Pigeon Beach if you are visiting English Harbour.

Fairly shallow which makes it popular with children. Take the walk up to the fort behind the beach to get great views out to sea and over the harbour. The trail is sign posted and kept clear by the ‘Royal Naval TOT club of Antigua and Barbuda’. Worth looking out for their trails as they link historic sites and invariably afford great views.

We love to hike so we decided to hike the middle ground trail from Ft Berkley to Pigeon Point Beach. We wore sturdy shoes and had a backpack with our snorkel gear. The hike involved some rocky terrain and a few ropes while going uphill. I loved this little jaunt as the scenery was spectacular and we saw the Pillars of Hercules from this viewpoint. We took our time to view everything and then the beautiful Pigeon Point Beach appears. We did snorkel by the rocks and saw some fish, but nothing to write about. However, the beach was nice and there are some great restaurants nearby, but we didn’t get to try those.

We caught a No. 17 bus to Nelsons Dockyard, walked to Antigua Yacht Club, stopped for a drink, then made the hilly walk to Pigeon Point Beach. It was a tropical paradise. Soft sand, turquoise calm water. So peaceful with only about 12 other people there (late morning). Nothing much there, just tranquillity. It was perfect. We did see a taxi arrive, so an alternative to walking. Did not see any facilities or bars. Would love to return one day.

It is a tranquil, clean and beautiful beach that I have patronized my entire life. One of my many go-to beaches whenever I choose to take a dip. Living on island, I have the luxury to visit many of them but I find myself constantly going back to it.

Are there sun loungers and umbrellas for hire on the beach and if so how much do they cost?
Written 30 July 2018
There are no commercial assets available at this beach. There are pic-nic tables and built in shade.... that is all!

How far is it and how safe is it to walk from Nelson's Dockyard to Piegeon Beach?
How feasible is it to get a bus or taxi from Nelson's Dockyard to this bech and a taxi from the beach to the port/cruise terminal in St John's?
Can you rent an umbrella and chair at the beach and,if so,how much?
Written 15 January 2018
There is more than one route. If you are fit and brave, there is an 'over the top' walk that is quite high and involves a bit of scrambling and some rough terrain. This is about a mile. The road walk is about half an hour, half flat and then a little hilly at the end, but easily manageable.
There are plenty of taxis in Antigua (We used Del Taxi all holiday - he was amazing, offering advice and help above and beyond anything we have experienced before). St John's is about an hour's drive from Nelson's Dockyard.
Both Nelson's Dockyard and Pigeon's beach are well worth visiting. There is covered seating at the beach, but no loungers/brollies. Whilst this does not suit everyone, it means that the beach remains largely unspoilt.
Please go - we loved it!

What is the cost of the shuttle from English Harbour to Pigeon Beach? Do they accept US currency? How frequent does it operate/schedule?
Are chairs available at the beach? What is the charge?

Please can you tell me the name of the Ladies boutique shop at Pigeon Beach (by Catherines bar & restaurant) and do they have a website address? It's opposite a boutique that sells sail bags. Look forward to reply. Thank you, Elspeth
