Booked via Ocean Point for $50 each to include one free drink and 2 hours over there. It is a beautiful little island but the waters are very shallow - so I couldn’t swim there and that didn’t help with the snorkelling either because the rocks etc are literally directly beneath you. I thought the waters would be a bit deeper !!! No one helped us whilst in the smeared - you’re left to get on with it. The tides are strong and because it’s so windy I think it would be easy to start snorkelling and get carried out too far. It’s a lot of money to be honest for 2 hours.

We booked tickets to the private island of Prickly Pear through our hotel. It was a very good price compared to excursions from our tour operator. We didn't know what to expect as there was very little info. However it was a short but fast boat ride to the island. The initial view of white sand beach with a few sun loungers and surf crashing on nearby rocks was stunning. We didn't know what to do once we unloaded but other guests were plopping stuff on sunbeds so we did too! After a while a couple went up to the beach bar and we saw them getting snorkels and flippers. We copied them and were also told we could have a complimentary drink. Fortunately we had snorkeling before so knew how to kit ourselves out as we weren't offered any assistance. The water is shallow for quite a way from the beach and it was easy to spot a variety of fish and a crab plus jellyfish. We were offered umbrellas after we had been there a little while. The boat goes back and forth frequently so it's easy to go back when you've had enough. All in all a very pleasant afternoon which would only have been improved by a little more communication.

A great trip from start to finish! A short boat trip (10 mins) and you get to the beautiful little island. Snorkelling in the surrounding reef was amazing, probably the best fish sightings of our holiday. Lunch was lovely, just a great experience that I would recommend.

Prickly Pear Island-Antigua is absolutely magical! I hosted my 50th birthday party here and it was all that I had hoped for:
•5 star service
•Beautiful ambiance
•Guests relaxed and enjoyed the tranquility of the island
•Great food and drinks
We danced, smiled, napped and laughed! Yes, some took a quick nap😆

I could say more but prefer that you visit for your own private island experience!

We recently stayed at the Hodges Bay resort. Prickly Pear Island is right off the resort beach. Terrence picked us up right on our beach around 11am and it was a quick boat ride over!

The island is absolutely beautiful. The clearest water we saw all trip and awesome snorkeling for all ages (my 5 year old loved it). We saw fish that were really interactive, found hermit crabs and watched the birds come in and out of the island. The water stays wonderfully shallow (at least while we were there) a far way out. It was great to hang around and talk to new friends and for the kids to play without worry.

The drinks are plentiful! They're generous with the pour.

Lunch was great. We were very realistic with our expectations and were pleasantly surprised. There was a lobster salad, potato salad, green salad, grilled chicken, rice and beans, grilled fish and a pork dish. It was served buffet style and enjoyed by all.

This is an exceptional experience and a wonderful way to spend the day. It's also the BEST value on the island!

While staying in Antigua, we kayaked today to Prickly Pear Island. Due to COVID-19, the kitchen is closed. No one has maintained the island over quarantine. I did however get some amazing footage of seagulls. We also snorkeled and saw many fish 🐠. It was an experience to remember.

We stopped at Prickly Pear for lunch on our boat tour, and I had no idea what to expect. I do know what we got, however…service, laughter, professionalism, gratitude, and can I add THE BEST MEAL we’ve had on our vacation? The island is a gem sitting in the middle of the ocean, isolated and secluded, everything a once-in-a-lifetime experience should be. Thank you to the cooks and servers who made our short time on the island memorable and special!

We first visited Prickly Pear (Crusoe) Island whilst on a cruise. At that time, I met the owner of the island, Miguel, who was a lovely man. He told me about his island and how he wanted to retire and pass the venture onto his family. We were visiting the area again and contemplated a return visit. We are always somewhat reluctant to do a ‘return experience’ in case it doesn’t live up to our memories or expectations. We needn’t have worried. Although Miguel had retired and passed his venture onto his family, it was just as we remembered. A lovely peaceful island, ample sunbeds and umbrellas, unlimited liquid refreshments, together with snacks and a very tasteful Caribbean lunch. We had another wonderful experience soaking up the sun, drinking rum punch and wine after swimming and snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters. If we ever return to Antigua I hope we find the time to pay yet another visit.

If you want a day away from the maddening crowd, this is the place to go. It is a beautiful, small island. You could walk around it in 10 minutes. Yes, it is very rustic. Reading some of the reviews below, I am not sure what some people expect. If you want air conditioned bathrooms with hot running water, go to a resort and sit on a crowded beach with a thousand other tourists. Or, visit Prickly Pear Island and spend the day relaxing on an uncrowded Carribean beach with a few like minded people. The bathroom is a marine head that does require pumping. No big deal. Remember, they don't have running water. The food is very simple. But, it is plentiful and very good. Remember, they don't have any electricity. The drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) are included and flow freely all day. Yes, they use disposable plates and cups. No big deal. Remember that Miguel and his family have to transport everything over to the island and pack everything back out. They keep the island in pristine condition. The beach is sandy with some rocks scattered about. However there is plenty of room to swim freely. You can book directly though Miguel's website. The one thing to keep in mind is that it is a $35 to $40 cab ride from the port out to where their boat picks you up. I found it cheaper to take the ship's excursion than pay for the taxi ride both ways.
