Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We wanted to spend our time on a beach while our cruise ship, the Holland America Eurodam, docked in Antigua. We heard that Runaway Beach was a nice beach and the closest to the pier, so we jumped in a taxi with another couple. The cost was $5 per person, each way. (You will get the best rate if you can share the ride with others.) We agreed to a pick-up time with the driver, and he did come back several hours later to return us to our ship at the agreed time.

The Runaway Beach "resort" is very rundown, and my heart sank when we got out of our taxi. The small beach was deserted. Even the sand was not attractive - sort of dirty-looking. Two men immediately sprang into action to set up an umbrella between 2 loungers, all of which were ragged and rough, but functional, for $30. And you do NOT want to have to use their restrooms. We made the best of it. Eventually, more people joined us on the beach.

The water was beautiful, and we floated happily in the Caribbean Sea in the inflatable chairs that we brought with us. If you are looking for a drink while there, Runaway Beach has a bar, but it didn't open until around 12:30. Once they opened, I requested to use their Wi-Fi but it was iffy. A few steps further down the beach is another bar that opens earlier. My daiquiri was just ok, and my husband enjoyed his beer. The best experience of the day was the appearance of a dolphin that approached the folks in the water and played and swam around for at least a half-hour. We were able to get close to him, touch him, and look into his sweet face before he finally swam off. It was amazing! So, we had a wonderful experience even though the beach itself was not what we expected. If I had known about this beach, I would not have chosen it. Yet the day was a delightful surprise!

Just arrived home from Antigua. This beach is just beautiful. Calm, refreshing waters with beautiful soft sand. We stayed at a small resort along the beach. Couldn’t ask for more.

Beautiful beach that goes on for a mile . White sandy beach and turquoise water to dive into. The runaway beach facilities are not great. You get a chair and have to pay $10 for an umbrella. The sandy beach dips quickly as there is a ridge when you walk in . Once in the water it’s fine but a bit of a pain trying to get up past the ridge. Great poverty all around the island as I saw when driving there.
We were there for just under 4 hours but tranquil. The only things that spoiled the view were the massive oil tankers moored off the coast.

Another great Antiguan beach free and open to the public. The beach is a 15 min walk from the busier Dickensons Bay. Good mix of locals and tourists.

Runaway Beach was absolutely beautiful, the crystal clear water and beautiful sand. We didn't stay on the beach as a bit too secluded and there wasn't any beach bar or chairs so you have to simply be prepared. The beach water throughout the island is not only crystal clear but warm.

Not enough food. Poor planning. Not enough chairs or umbrellas. Had to drag out lounge chairs that had missing straps. Or broken. Definitely not worth the $70 pp.
Description was very misleading.
The water was great though.
Not really picture worthy…only the water was!

Beach is 10 minutes taxi from the cruise port. Drinks, food and toilets at the beach bar. Local art for sale and clothing. Parasol and beach chairs for hire. Clean sand, though sea was rough due to bad weather elsewhere in Caribbean. A fairly quite beach except when a coach dropped people for a short time. I would definitely return, it may not have all the shops instead uncrowded peace.

The best of our short stay in Antigua and probably one of top Caribbean beaches. Crystal blue waters and white sand. Unfortunately the beach bar Misto if ways far from the natural entity, should you be able to avoid it - better do and stick to this impressive beach.

The trip from St John's was hardly the most picturesque with what looked like a refinery close to the destination but stay with it. Mystic Beach is a great place to swim and enjoy a few hours on a sunbed. Umbrellas were $10 to hire and there was free wifi. There is a bar on the beach and a fabulous lack or people bothering you in order to sell stuff. Having been to some very crowded beaches over the previous two weeks, it was a real treat to be off the beaten track. A quiet oasis even if not in an entirely perfect setting.
