Visited to do an owl and hawk taster experience. Booked last minute via Cathy. After me messing about with the booking we arrived and were greeted by alex. Met and flew 3 different birds to the glove- Owl, buzzard and hawk.
I cannot express what a wonderful experience this is for a bird lover. To be at one with these majestic creatures gives a joy and sense of calm all at once,
Alex was knowledgable and very personable and made this a wonderful day.

Thank you

Informative Owl Display
Aug. 2019 • Family
It was amazing to walk through the garden gate to see three beautiful Macaw parrots perched on large bowers within a quintessentially English garden!

Unfortunately, otherwise, our experience as a young family was not the best. It was a lovely sunny day and busy, although not overly busy. It took 20 mins to buy tickets and order some drinks and then the drinks took about 20 mins to arrive. We were only given half of the number of tap waters (requested as it was a hot day) and then told we could not even take water into the Owl Display area, so felt rushed to finish our drinks for the 2pm start. The Display was then (at 2pm) delayed until 2.15 pm!

It cost £30 for 2 seniors, an adult and 2 children (6 & 3 yrs) to see the owls, hawks and ducks and to see the display, so not a cheap day out.

The display itself was extremely informative - more suited for older children and adults. However, after 30 mins our children became v restless and we left early, unfortunately.

All in all a very interesting place for older children and adults but could be much better managed.

Hi Caroline Thank you for your review, and glad you enjoyed part of your visit to us. Unfortunately that particular day was the busiest day of the year for us, and with only a small dedicated team of staff we did our best, - it is for that reason that the display was delayed as we appreciated that some visitors had not had sufficient time to finish their food. As far as I am aware no-one missed the beginning of the display. It was a lovely day to sit and enjoy the garden, and the children enjoyed their freedom of play there. It was indeed very hot, and although we are not able to have glasses and crockery or food taken into the flying area as the birds can capture them during their flying, we do of course permit cans to be taken through. We do have water in cans available from the front of the house. With regards to the pricing structure, which we have not changed for around five years now, there were 4 paying people in your group and I think that £7.50pp is a good rate for a half day activity for the family and the little one was free of charge. We're glad you connected with the ambience of the place, even though you had to leave early.

Went as a presen,t for a Full Days Experience. Arrived and myself and my wife exercised and flew 7 beautiful birds to each other's hand. Had a lovely lunch, watched a very informative flying display and then had a lovely Scone Jam and Cream tea.
We felt very relaxed and couldn't have been more welcomed. The time spent in the morning with the birds was just brilliant and gave me a whole new appreciation for the intelligence of these magnificent bird. The term Wise Old Owl is so true.

Birthday Treat for my 9 year old.
Sep. 2018 • Family
I organised this visit quite short notice for my son's birthday as previous plans fell through. The staff were very accommodating given the late notice and booked my boys and I in for an hours bird of prey experience. There was a small wait, but we enjoyed looking around the owl garden and relaxing in the sunshine in their beautiful gardens. Rod came to meet us and was great with the children making it fun and informative. The birds looked very happy and healthy and were enthusiastic during the experience. Rod is obviously very attentive to his birds and catered the hour to enable my youngest to participate starting with lighter birds and finishing with a Harris Hawk. My eldest had a brilliant time and the hour was more than sufficient. Top marks for the centre as a whole, their clear passion for Exmoor, the wildlife and its future is commendable and I would certainly recommend this Centre to friends and family.
Many thanks to you Cathy and Rod and best wishes for the rest of the season.

Fantastic fun and beautiful surroundings and people
Sep. 2018 • Couples
My partner and I went to Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre to enjoy the flying display as we saw it advertised online. What we found was a beautiful farm filled with well cared for animals ranging from Ponies and Horses through to Chickens, Owls and Hawks.

The cream tea and scones were absolutely lovely and a real treat in such a serene area of Exmoor.

Rod and Cathy very obviously love what they do and want to share their passion for all to see, the Flying experiences are certainly not to be missed.

I visit the area at least once a year and will be back next time I venture to the area for a cream tea and to enjoy seeing the Owls and Hawks and everything else they have on the farm.

So sad
Jul. 2018 • Family
I’m so sad to be typing this because of how much i loved the place in the past, we arrived expecting to find a lovely colourful garden with macaws in and seating to have lunch or cream tea, it wasn’t the same now i know we have had hot weather some plants have been killed off but there wasn’t any flowers at all and the garden really needed a good tidy as parts were such a mess it was a sad sight to see. We went into the owl garden and we were even more shocked it used to be beautifully well maintained now its over grown and a mess there is a mowed track for you to follow around the enclosures that’s it, its no longer a garden you could sit and enjoy and some of the trees need pruning a bit as they hide some of the fronts of enclosures. We were taken inside a barn to fly some birds which was a different one to what we had been in before, it was smaller because apparently the other ones roof had started to leak which i find ever so strange as they had a new roof fitted couple of years ago and it wasn’t a rainy day so it would be fine to of used it. We feel the reason we were taken into the smaller barn was so we could be shown the life story of the lady which ok it must have been nice for her husband to have done for her but we are there for the birds. We didn’t understand why we needed to read about when she went to school, where she has lived, about she only got herself a horse so she could supervise her children on ride, which what parent wouldn’t do that, selling the horses, having one on loan, taking the dogs for a walk loosing them and them being shot by a farmer, it was unnecessary information now of it had just been about how you came to have the centre fair enough but it was everything the only reason we read some was we thought it would b about the place and he took so long to fetch the birds. There is no honest interaction it all seems forced, apparently she wants to concentrate on her horses which i find so hard to believe as she came outside twice for a minute or to if the. They have lost there touch with there warmth towards people i feel it was good enough for me to hand cash over but not good enough to give me the experience i had before. They don’t seem to have the time of day for anyone. At the end of the display i thought he would come and say have u got any questions have u had a good day n just disappeared we didn’t see him again so we were like oh i guess that’s it then. i feel like they want to retire but cant as they need the money that’s the impression i get, he kept saying he was doing it himself so he doesn’t have to pay anyone, they had a lovely bloke there before Damien he was brill. Walking around the horses wasn’t great ether i feel like there’s allot of stuff dumped about the place its like they were doing work but stopped for the day and let people walk around without tidying up.

My 22 year old daughter had the most fantastic ride over the moor!
Sep. 2017 • Solo
My daughter had only been riding for about 12 months when I booked her in for a morning hack on the moor during one of our visits down to Minehead.... I thought the experience would do her good, and boy did it! Not only did she see the moor with new eyes (so different on horseback) but she had a thrilling fast-paced but safe hack too! Thank you for showing her that riding is not just about plodding down a country lane or going around a menage!

Informative but dirty enclosures
Aug. 2018 • Couples
Went along today for a visit as had seen some really good reviews about the place. Overall the visit was good value for money and the display given was informative. I was really dissapointed to see how filthy the bird enclosures were however, their water baths/dishes were green with algae and obliviously had not been cleaned in a long time. There was also a great deal of faeces and pellets within their enclosures. Although its good to know that the birds are regularly flown I feel more needs to be done to keep their living areas clean. Ordered refreshments which were OK, however the lady who served us was only wearing socks and pyjamas which was weird! A solid 5/10.

Don’t travel from long distances
Aug. 2018 • Family
Visited here thinking it would make a nice day out for my young daughter, very much mistaken, it’s lucky we won a voucher, got there to find a small farm, the owls were all sat in cage looking bored, that taken us about 15 mins to look round then on to the hawks, not many at all, went to see the horses but most of them were taken out on rides, by this point my daughter was fed up, so we waited about 40 mins for the display...... well what can I say, even myself got really fed up, I thought he was going to do more of a display but all he done was talk talk talk and more talk, the owls and hawk just jumped from stand to stand.... after about half an hour, I had to get up leave, this was so boring..... we went to the cafe, which we ordered cream teas but tea had to be paid for separately which was an expensive way to do it... I’ve always known cream teas are tea and scones!!!! We will never go there again... so please don’t travel miles you will be very disappointed especially children.

Very disappointing !
Aug. 2018 • Couples
My Spouse & I arrived here as a treat for my birthday as we were in the area. As it is 2018 & not 1918, I made the grave error of assuming the place would be open as it was in peak holiday season of August.
We arrived to find out cream teas are only available certain days of the week. In August.
We missed the flying display, so I thought we could wander round & look at the owls. Wrong again. That was closed. I had to plead with the woman as it was my birthday I wanted to see the owls as we were leaving the next day.
Reluctantly, she took our £10 & I felt we were doing HER a massive favour. Her manner was abrupt & brusque. Not the best attitude to run a business. I can’t believe it was shut in peak season !

What a dissapointing review - we were CLOSED and we let you have a wander around for a very small charge, and yet you still complain?? There was no flying display that day. The Centre was closed. This is an unfair review!!! I did reluctantly allow you into the owls, but as it was your birthday I felt compassion, and you still complain??!! Sorry, this review is unacceptable and inappropriate.
