This is the best fortress we've ever seen. The sheer scale of the walls, the amazing entrance (don't take the elevator and miss it!) then the surprise of finding a whole village at the top.... and I haven't even started on the views. We walked...More

We drove up from Bad Schandau and parked in the car park. It took us about 75 minutes to walk around the perimeter on the outside of the fortress. It’s a relatively easy walk, with a reasonable gradient to walk up on the road from...More

The Koenigstein Fortress is really beautiful and the views from up here are gorgeous but the place was hard to find since the GPS took us to a nearby parking lot and we had to literally hike our way up, which was rather difficult. Perhaps...More

We visited the fortress, it has amazing views, but how to get to the Fortress was a bit sketchy. After catching the bus from Bad Schandau we walked and found the walk up the mountainside. It was a bit of a hike. We were intending...More

The path is wide and well-surfaced. It does go uphill but is not particularly steep. If you are unsure, take the little train up and you can still consider walking down.
