Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent a half day in Altagracia while based at a hotel in Santo Domingo—rented a scooter to drive there.
Many things to comment on but since the museum is the only thing listed on Trip Advisor, I am commenting on several things here.
The museum is small but has some interesting items and a very knowledgable woman who showed us around. The museum had a sign saying it was closed to fix up the exhibits but as the door was open we called out and not only did she allow us in, she took the time away from her work to talk with us ... we speak Spanish so I cannot say whether or not she would have given the same info in English but she kindly enunciated slowly for our gringo ears.
Then when we asked about where to eat for lunch, a man working there suggested Comedor Nicarao which is around the corner from the museum, facing the park. TripAdvisor would not let me add that restaurant to the listing for some odd reason but they served us absolutely the best fried chicken I have ever eaten, hands down! Super tender fall off the bone with the most amazing light crispy thin crust, fantastic. Served with beans and tortillas. (Note this is not the fast food chicken place nearby). Note also they had no printed menu and gave us the food choices in Spanish.
Then another attraction is the city central park, also not listed as a place on T.A. but worth seeing as it is one of the nicest city park-plazas I have seen. Beautiful plants and small garden including an extraordinary basil —a small bush (if you are a gardener pinch off a leaf, wow), super playground for kids, and a central raised area you can climb up a spiral stair for a nice view around. Then on the opposite side of the park from the restaurant is a church—walk into the entry area to see some fantastic old carved stones, huge stone idols. There is a donation box there to help support their maintenance.
The town has a nice relaxed feeling and I would recommend a half day there if you are on the island long enough, or even base yourself there and do day trips from there. It is a lot less windy than the center (narrower) part of the island.

The tour was hospitable, with a bit of Nicaraguan traditional welcome brew and a tour of the currency history museum and the archaeological museum. Our tour guide did a great job translating English and Spanish and he is very well versed on both exhibits. For
anyone interested in these two topics, you won't be disappointed.

This is a small, but fine museum with a great collection of ancient artifacts from the region. Young charming museum guides will accompany the visitors and explain the history. Very informative. This museums is worth a visit!

We opted to check out the room featuring ancient artifacts and we were not disappointed! We began with pottery throughout the years and moved onto burial urns and shaped rocks. It was interesting to go through everything in relative chronological order and see many different and unique types of artifacts. The tour ended with some terrible shot of locally brewed alcohol, but overall, it was a cool experience and if you travel to Ometepe, then it's worth the stop.

You travel 'back' in time to the early island inhabitants, see lots of their pottery, and learn about their culture. You also get to take a peak at the very nice rental cabins they have on site, and when you're all done taking in the culture, they give you a FREE SHOT of homemade 'something like tequila' that people don't stop raving about! There is also a second museum here all about the history of currency in Central America. Well worth the $5 cover charge!

Fun and interesting museum and the bar is great! Ask for the home-made chicha (like moonshine) liquor that the bartender makes there on site! It is delicious and full of interesting tradition

I visited with a group of about 12 people. The pictures shown for this attraction paint a much nicer picture than is in fact the case. The museum has fallen into a state of disrepair which is a shame as the professor in charge appears to have a genuine love of the place. Whilst it pains me to say it I would give this attraction a big miss.

the Museo tour was very informative and leaned much from the young female tour guide, Clara. It had more pottery on exhibit than any I saw in other cities in Nicaragus

This little museum by Altagracia’s shady central park is packed with information about the island en castellano but the sculpture collection is dismal, especially compared with the private (more expensive) Museo El Ceibo, and the dusty exhibits cry for renovation. At the back are some scary portraits of famous islanders whose significance is never explained. In short it's worth the USD1 admission but not the USD3 camera fee.

just a small collection, so I would not recommend to plan it as a separate event - better go only if you walk by..
